Welcome to the club, Martin. You have a nice memory of your father - rather unique. My s type has an Ivory/dove grey interior and I discovered that the standard trim was barley, and my interior was a factory fitted optional extra. This could be the case in your father's choice, and it is possible to find out if that is the case in your father's car. A main dealer should be able to give you that information. I got mine via a vin decoder ---- vindecoderz -- which sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter.

A car I had suffered from polish applications, and as Joe said, a lot of polishing does take the paint off. I went then to wax on both Jaguars I have had, and have now settled with Bilt Hammer double speed wax which contains Carnauba Wax and hydrophobic polymers. I tend to avoid too much shampoo and have found that luke warm water and a very good rinse gets the dirt removed and ready for the waxing. My car sits on the drive as the garage is the home for SWMBO's Toyota Hybrid. Regards, Peter.

Hi Graham, I tooted for 20 years, mostly with my Rover Sterling [2.5 V6 Petrol] one it pulled OK. But I did come very close to changing it for a Discovery. The XF has all the attributes needed for towing, as does the S Type Diesel, but SWMBO points out that it is a shame that a Jaguar Saloon becomes a workhorse, when there are workhorses around. Regards, Peter.

Hi Jon and welcome to the club. I rather like the SatNav on my s Type inspite of no speed cam warnings. I do have a speed control in my s type, though, usually in the passenger seat. Regards, Peter.

I have been told, and I believe the person who told me, that the electricity usage of most modern cars can mean that a battery that is around 5 years old needs replacing. My s type came off the production line in March 2007 and the battery was replaced in February 2013, and again inJanuary 2018, which seems to prove the point. While I do not do many long runs I do charge my battery every two weeks. There is so much electricity being used while the ignition is switched off, surprisingly. that this is worth doing. Regards, Peter.

Hi Stan, All well, I hope. Us Lancastrians and Yorkshire people like to have a lot of banter, but when it comes down to the hard stuff and they unite they are a force to be recognised. We will recall the times with Hutton and Washbrook opening the batting, and Statham and Trueman opening the bowling, and it 's hard to forget the Lancashire and Yorkshire Regiment in WW2 with their motto - "Let's get the so and sos". Regards, Peter.

Yorkshiremen are always jealous of the Red Rose which reminds them that they lost their last battle to Lancashire at Bosworth Field in 1485. They are also jealous that Lancastrians never toast the Queen, but rather HRH the Duke of Lancaster. Peter.

Hi Keith, and welcome to the club, Stalybridge has a ring in my ears, as I worked for John Summers and Sons for 10 years, and Stalybridge was where he started his works making clog nails, and he and his descendants finished with a steelworks -- Hawarden Bridge Steelworks -- with 13,500 employees before being mostly closed down in the 1980's. While I was there they had two ships bringing iron ore from Sweden -- The MV Hawarden Bridge and the MV Stalybridge. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the Club, Kieron. I also had an X type, 2.5 AWD -- mine was sadly gone also by what is now called car jacking. The club is about sharing experiences and you will find that they are invaluable. My second Jaguar is an S Type, which I thoroughly enjoy. Regards, Peter. Lancastrian in Exile.

Now being 84 years of age and with arthritis in both knees, I have given up the noble game. My old clubs, a full set of Wilson Winds have been carefully stored in the garage, together with a plethora of woods -- a ceramic driver included, plus a No.1 Iron. They are all for sale, and all in a very good condition, and can be delivered if within a reasonable distance. Any reasonable offer will be accepted. Regards Peter.

S-Type battery woes - a possible solution
Old Peter replied to Raistlin's topic in Jaguar S-Type Club
Just after I bought my s type [2.7D] I had a warning engine light come on. The car behaved normally but I thought I had better check with the local main dealer what the problem was. Ten minutes later & £69.50 less in my back pocket I found out it was a sticky EGR valve. I bought a cheap Code Reader -- basic but works - and joined the JOC. My car has never been to a main dealer again -- nothing wrong with main dealers, but everything I needed to know was available from JOC members. Cheaper, too! Regards, Peter. -
S-Type battery woes - a possible solution

Hi Mike, Last week I was changing the discs in the CD player, and as you know, you need to switch on the ignition. I was sidetracked and only remembered the ignition was still switched on after a couple of hours. When I tried to start the engine I had every warning light and noise come on. Luckily I have an external socket plus a CTEK charger connected to the battery. Two hours charging and all was well, and I didn't have to do any resetting, We do daft things occasionally. Peter. -
S Type, massive failure, any ideas welcomed

I am always careful, as I come from Lancashire. I have had the same one for 54 years, also from Lancashire where the quality is very high. Peter. -
Hi Haydn, I guess you have gone for for the diesel engine, which is an updated version to meet EU6 regulations, and basically the larger version of the engine [2.7 diesel] that my s type has. A very good engine designed by Ford and Peugeot. The style and design of Jaguar cars still shows some of the qualities of earlier Jaguars, and if you look carefully at the Jaguar F type -- sports car -- you will see similarities to the famous E Type of the sixties, and looking carefully at the XF you will see similarities with the s type of the eighties. When the Mark 2 Jaguar was first shown, Bill Lyons [who was a Lancashire man] who founded Jaguar used the words "Grace, Pace and Space" and that really remains the motto of Jaguar. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the club, Haydn, Certainly a Jaguar is somewhat different to a Clio. In fact, it is a lot different to many other cars. When Ian Callum was designing the XF he sat in the driving seat of the Mk2 Jaguar and tried to find what it was that made Jaguars somewhat different. His conclusion was "atmosphere". And it is very true. I have owned and drive my S Type, the predecessor of the XF, and the successor of the Mk2 Jaguar, and I can still feel the atmosphere. You will enjoy your Jaguar. As an aside, what engine has you car got? Regards, Peter.

S Type, massive failure, any ideas welcomed

Hi Paul, Sounds very mystifying! It may be that changing the gearbox fluid could be the answer. Some members have done this at 70k and say that the gearbox is smoother. There could be more ideas on the way. Regards, Peter. -
Hi Allan, Removing the DPF is now an automatic MOT failure. I am a bit mystified about the engine you now have, as the original 2.7 D is Ford and Peugeot designed [with some input from other potential users] and is very reliable. I am also a bit mystified with the Registration plate as the DVLA has no records of this car. I would welcome an explanation, Regards Peter,

Welcome to the club, Stuart. I am sorry I cannot help you with that, but I am sure XF owners will assist. Did your car have a fresh MOT when you bought it? You could use Vehicle Smart, a free app to check its last MOT and see if there were any advisories. Regards, Peter.

Hi Dave, The first bad winter motoring I had was when I had a Triumph Herald, quite a light car, equipped with Town and Country Tyres on the rear wheels. I was still living in Lancashire and working in North Wales and managed the snow quite well. Never lost a day's work. When I moved to Derbyshire right on the edge of the peak district I had a company car, a Ford Escort, and while living quite high up and doing at least 500 miles a week I carried a shovel in the boot in winter and used it, together with a piece of carpet. It kept me going. When the snow got too heavy I stayed at home and worked from there. I now live in the Midlands where people use chains on their Range Rovers when there is an inch of snow!! Regards, Peter.

Deep snow can see off many 4x4s and there are times when lorries have to be dug out. I lived in North Wales and Derbyshire for quite a few years and had to abandon my car several times, thankfully not far from home. My solution to big drifts and deep snow was simple. I would stay home! Peter.

Welcome to the cub, Timothy. The instructions for the S Type Sat Nav etc are in the owners set of manuals. If you look at my post some years ago you will see how to get it. It is possible to download the one in question. Just Google -- NAS Touchscreen and Jaguar Voice-- It worked 3 years ago. There are 117 pages, Regards, Peter,

Hi Tony and Welcome to the club. Jaguars don't really get old, It's the drivers who do. I have aged 5 years since I bought my last Jaguar, but Morgana still looks good as new. Just keep her clean and shine, feed her with premium fuel, and give her a long run once a month, both to show her off and also to regenerate the Diesel Particulate filter. Then enjoy. Regafrds Peter.

Hi Frank, I had driven 200 miles the day before and it is still shiny! Peter.

Welcome to the club, Greg and Eunice, I have the precursor of the Xf the S type which I find really fantastic and I hear that the XF is better than that. That takes some doing. Eunice, you will love the Jaguar experience and you will drive with a smile on your face! Regards, Peter.
