Richard made a good point concerning the sills. A check on the location of previous owners can assist by giving you a guess to how well they car was looked after. It need not be too expensive if you have a good garage and a good welder. Peter.

Hi Jennifer, and welcome to the Club. The 2.2 engine is quite a good engine, and was also used in the X Type and is powerful enough unless you want to race it. Parking? You will have parking sensors to assist, and remember any Lady from Lancashire can park a tank! My wife used to love driving my Rover Sterling 825 which is just as long. I am from the North of England and also lived in North Wales and Derbyshire. I have never had winter tyres. although I did have Town and Country rear tyres when living in North Wales. Good all weather tyres [Goodyear Eagle] will do the job. In the sixties my daily commute was a fifty miles round trip and I never had a problem. A few slithers now and then though. I the seventies, and living in the Peak District we were snowed in a couple of times with a8 inches of snow, and only once I failed to get out, and only once did I have dig out my car. Peter.

Hi Phil, First Class Alloys has a website and the place is easy to find. He managed to source a full set of wheels for my son's X type the day before the car's MOT when if had bee severely potholed and my son had forgotten about the MOT. Peter.

Hi Phil, When I had the wheels on my s type refurbished I had great look around and eventually went to a Lichfield one man company who knew everything about wheels called First Class Alloys. He did a great job on all 5 wheels [proper spare in boot]. I don't know how he would have done on a special set as one your car, but with an XKR -- a classic in the future - authenticity is important. Peter.

Welcome to the club, Ian. I have the same car as you and used to have the same fault. The way to release it is fairly simple, but a nuisance. You must disconnect the battery, making sure you have the radio code handy and the ignition key in your pocket. Reconnect the battery after a couple of minutes, and the alarm will go off. Switch off alarm and then start the car and following the instructions on the message centre [[Apply footbrake and handbrake simultaneously] You will have to put in the radio code and reset your settings -- sounds, windows etc. Just one thing -- it happens to me when it is cold and the battery is a bit low. I do not have this problem with my s type as it does not have this system fitted. However, SWMBO's Toyota Yaris has it and at a particular place of a local road is always picks up the previous road's speed limit. Next time I am on the road I will look out for the sign as I think a tree is affecting it; Peter.

I have heard of Yuasa, but not seen any reviews. My local Auto accessory shop owner will fit your battery at no cost plus any other items --- widscreen wipers etc. Very handy. Peter

There are plenty of good battery around. Bosch is well recommended. My local Auto Accessory shop got me the correct battery for the car within an hour. The brand I have is a Platinum which also gets some very good reports. Regards, Peter.
