Hi David, I was unsure about that element. My first thoughts were that it was an attempt to get older diesels off the road. I do less that 6,000 miles a year and those who do 30,000 pay the same. I am 100% in favour of looking at a system that takes account of the amount of usage and it looks like fuel that is the only accurate way of producing fairness. Other suggestions would be interesting, Peter.

It looks as if diesel engines that don't meet Euro 6 regulations are to have a hefty hike in the Vehicle Excise tax/aka Road Fund Licence following the Budget. So the S type 2.7 diesel owner who drives 15 miles to work in the morning and the same distance back home may be penalised, but the white van man with the 2.0 litre Diesel engine who leaves home at 7.00am and spends all day on the road delivering parcels will have no increase in VED at all? This seems illogical to me if it is a attempt to improve air quality. The is also a point made yesterday that if diesel cars go off the road and their owners buy petrol engines there will be more CO2 emissions which is the reason why there was a push for diesel usage 17 years ago.

Welcome to the club, Matt. My S type has a stainless steel exhaust and is nice and quiet. But the first owner had it factory fitted as an optional extra --- likely for me! I am in total agreement with what Joe has said. If it isn't broken, don't change it. Regards, Peter.

Hi Peter, and welcome to the club. I think the answer is that it is a bit more complicated than that. I do not know the XF system, but the s type has a button that operates the mirrors folding in. There is a module that will fold in the mirrors when you are locking the car, although my cars refuses it. When Paul sees this post he will certainly be able to give you some better information. Hi Graham, That is a very good reason. When living in Derbyshire I was snowed in a few times and could have done with chains, but taking some time off work was a bit enjoyable! Regards Peter.

I have only seen snow chains in use once, in spite f working in North Wales on a hill for 8 years and in the Peak District in Derbyshire for 12 years. When I saw snow chains being used it was in flat Sutton Coldfield when there was two inches of snow, and was driving from Derbyshire to Sutton Coldfield. The chains were on a Range Rover! I think careful driving on winter tyres or even all weather tyres should be OK in our relatively mild winters unless you are well off the beaten track. Peter.

Hi Paul, and welcome to the club. Luckily I have never had a DPF full warning as I manage to do a longish run every month. I also use an additive as I have had some P0420 [EGR] warnings which if has appeared to cure, as I have not have had any for over a year, It also seems to keep the fuel system clean. The diesel engine is much maligned, but if you use premium fuel and treat it with a small amount Diesel Power ECOMAX which does reduce emissions, it will be just as clean as petrol engines. Hi Fran, Nice to see a classic Jaguar being looked after. Curiously, I had a visit from an XJ owner, and he actually showed me his key fob and said "You can see Ford owned Jaguar -- the key fobs are Ford.". I know that road well, and all it needs to cause a jam at rush hour is a clown, There are plenty on our roads. The A5127 is a single carriageway between Sutton Coldfiel and the City of Lichfield crossing both the A5 and the A38. The speed limit is mostly 50 mph and spells of 30 mph. So what do you get? The driver who travels at 40 mph along the whole length and who manages to get in the wrong lane at all of the traffic Islands and who had not yet got used to using the trafficators. They are worse [not much, though] than the boy racers. Peter.

I use Diesel Power Ecomax from Millers Oils. One container will treat 500 litres. The S type diesel has two EGR valves, and since I started using it last year I have not had a single engine Amber Warning. Peter.

My s type did not have Jaguar Voice, and when reading about it I was rather pleased. I heard that it did not like people form the North of England! Peter.

Hi Wayne, If you are looking to buy a diesel, both the engine you mention are good engines. The 2.2 D is a tried and tested engine and was used in the X type for quite a few years. The 3.0 lite diesel is a development of the 2.7 Gemini engine developed by Ford and Peugeot [plus others] and is the uprated version of that engine to meet the EU6 emissions regulations. Hi David, You can reset the compass point to point in the direction you are going and there are three choices of screen layout -- on my s type 07 -- it should be the same on your car. I visited by sister in Glasidale a couple of weeks ago, and Doris took me right to the house even though it is well off the beaten track. Regards, Peter.

I quite like the Sat Nav, and find that it really suits the Jaguar. Doris, the lady who advises you what to do ir quite polite "Take the next left turn if it is not too much trouble" is much better than "Turn left". Peter.

Correct, Knut, The Sat Nav system used throughout the automotive world is made by a Company called DENSO, which was founded in 1949 in Japan and is 25% owned by Toyota. It is not just Jaguar who they supply but you will find that they also provide Mercedes, BMW, and all the Japanese cars with the Sat Nav Systems they use. I do like the system that is installed in the s type, x type and the XJ and if they produce another later disc, I will be on the list. But in the world of automotive parts Sat Nav parts are not the most important parts being made. Regards, Peter.

The s type is a great car, and fits exactly to the description Bill Lyons said "Grace, Pace and Space" when he launched the original s type, which was really a posher version of the Mark 2 Jaguar. I note your comment that you would have voted for the s type in its original version had it been on the list. I voted for the D Type, which was the car that dominated Le Mans and other similar races, with one of the main reason that the D Type was really the prototype of the E type, and as a young man in his twenties seeing the newsreels of a British car dominating Ferraris, Mercedes, and Alfa Romeos on the racing circuits is a memory that stays with you. I must be one of the few Jaguar aficionados who went to the cinema in the early fifties! My s type is the humble 2.7 diesel, still very quick, but with a fuel gauge that hardly moves and gives you over 500 miles on a tankful. Regards, Peter.

Hi Jeff, I have been looking around for some time to try for and answer, and the most definite one is that Jaguar made the engine. There was a version made in Detroit for the Lincoln, and a similar version was also used by BMW. What is says on the box is true! Peter.
