Hi Tony, I don't think it was a known problem, although I did not understand why they did not fit fog lights to the 2007 models. You don't often see white s types, but they do look rather good , especially on sunny days. Peter.

There is an interesting programme on BBC Radio 5 this morning at 11.00 am which should be of interest to Diesel drivers. Apparently there have been 1,800 drivers prosecuted for having taken off their DPF from their cars. The DPF filter reduces particulates by 20% and while it is not illegal for a garage to move it it is illegal for a driver to drive with it removed. Curious! However, the MOT is being strengthened in 2018, and new all diesel vehicles will have to have a DPF fitted from 2018. You will be able to listen to the programme bathe on the radio at 11.00 am and also a little later via the BBC News online. I have put the full article on Facebook fir those who use it. Peter.

The same as me, Joe, probably more than three times the cost. Peter.

Welcome to the club, Tony. Jaguar solved that problem in the very last year of production. They did not install front fog lights in the 07/57 plate models. I just uprated my s type with similar of 20% more powerful bulbs. Nice to see an s type owner keeping the early model for such a long time! Regards, Peter.

It is actually Indigo Blue, Steve, but you can only tell the difference when the sun is shining

When I had to go to London when working, the Boss decided I should drive in rather than go by train. Those in the Scottish, North East, Yorkshire and Welch offices who had company cars were exempt as it was to far, but me in the Birmingham Office had to drive. So I did, and as the Head Office did not have enough parking space I put the car in a secure multi storey car park, as I was required to keep the car in a garage overnight. It cost £26 a night - probably more expensive now - fuel cost was about £25-- so my claim for £104 was a bit bigger than the £35 train fare. I was ordered to go by train in the future. Those in the big house would probably travel first class if they didn't drive! Peter.

Very nice, Dave. That is the model I wanted, but SWMBO said it was too big to manoeuvre on our driveway. I had to settle for my s type! Peter.

Hi Rowley, I must admit that I have not researched much on London emissions, partly because when we visit our daughter in Bromley it is either the weekend owe go in SWMBO's Toyota Yaris Hybrid. It may be that Jaguar only certified the earlier x types as Euro 3 and then could not be bother about certification on later models. Paperwork! I have a few connections in the Big House on the North Bank of the Thames and if we don't find anything definite I will ask for a bit of clarification. A letter to Sadiq Khan might be useful also. I am also wondering if those that work in the Big House have to pay the extra charge! Regards, Peter.

Hi Rowley, The Euro 4 requirements in many cases needed a DPF, and my s type [07] has one. My son has a 2.0 diesel x type on an 06 plate and there is no need for a DPF. It has just passed its MOT. I have a feeling that your x type is compliant, although I would like to hear the view of a Londoner with a similar car to yours. Regards, Peter.

I uprated the standard headlights on my s type to similar bulbs with 20% more power, which I find fits the bill. Headlight bulbs are not cheap but the offer from Halfords was 2 for the price of 1 and with 15% discount it was not that expensive, Peter.

Interesting, I have not been to Leicester for almost 20 years. Might do a visit. Peter. -
Hi John, Having nothing to do, I have had a look around, and the nearest I can find are Dare Madison - 15 spokes. It is quite difficult to check them out from your photo, though as there is a slight distortion due to the photo being taken from above rather than the same level. So, having tried Tom's suggestion, which could be the easiest bet, I would be inclined to go to a local wheel supplier and see if he could identify them. Regards Peter.

Hi Martin, I had that problem with my s type over a year or so, corrected by disconnecting the battery. I changed the battery that was 5 years old and fitted by Jaguar and have not had the problem since. BUT it will pop up if the battery needs charging. I would be inclined to change the battery first and then see how it goes. Regards, Peter.

Hi Richard, I live in Sutton Coldfield and Karl only operates around that area. The way he works for me is he comes to our house, leaves his car on my drive, takes away my car, does the required work and comes back with my car. If it is a job that can be done on my drive, he comes in his van , does the job, and then he goes. I doubt if he would go to Worcester, Too far, It is worth checking if there is such an operator in your area, as they are usually very well qualified mechanic who prefer to work for themselves instead of a Garage. Regards, Peter

Welcome to the club, Richard. Northfield has a good reputation. I don't know the Worcester area, so I can't help you on that. I have successfully avoided main dealers for aftercare and have used a mobile mechanic for 15 years. I might be worth investigating that avenue. Regards, Peter,

Hi Graham, There is definitely a DPF in the 2007 Jaguar s type. It was fitted in all 2005 2.7 onwards diesels to meet the EU4 requirements and I believe some of the 2004 models. My neighbour has a DPF in his Mazda 6 2.0 litre diesel also. Regards, Peter. PS. Jaguar say all of the 2004 models.

Welcome to the Club, Russ. There are some members in your area, so when you see a Jaguar around, give a wave. I have had waveband headlamp glasses several times in the last few weeks in both Devon and Not Yorkshire. Nice to see. Regsrds, Peter,

Welcome to the club, Neil. I have never driven an XF, but it is the model that replaced the S Type and is regarded as a rather good car. The Jaguar experience you will enjoy. Regards, Peter.

Hi Allan, I have had a look at the Jaguar Warranty Benefits leaflet, and under "Owner's Responsibilities" there is a paragraph stating that there will be no responsibility accepted by Jaguar -- etc ....... for the use of supplemental additives and flushing agents for fuel or engine oil [unless specified as part of a Jaguar service requirement]. The previous paragraph refers to the use of bio diesel or bio ethanol in concentrations that exceed 5%. This would exclude regenerated chip oil, or at the other extreme very powerful fuels. I don't think that an egg cup full of an additive would exceed 5% of 65 litres of top quality diesel. However, if you are unsure, I would write to a main dealer or indeed Jaguar for confirmation that a small amount of an DPF/EGR/Injector cleaner would invalidate the warranty. The Owner's handbook does say that you should not put any additives at all into the fuel or engine oil. Most peculiar! Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the club, Des [&GF] On my s type I have the dash cam by the rear view mirror, hiding the lead bt just pushed it into the headlining and down the "A" pillar. SWMBO has her dash cam on her Toyota Yaris at the bottom left of the windscreen. Both work OK. I hope GF enjoys the Jaguar -- we make good cars in Brummagem.[& Coventry] Regards, Peter

Hi Graham, The s type can get some rust in the sills under the plastic covers. The two petrol engines that you will probably consider are the 2.5 litre V6 and the 3.0 litre V6. Both are very good engines but the 2.5 litre was discontinued in 2004/5. Good luck in your search. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the Club, John. Thanks very much for that information which will be useful to a lot of people. Have they got a website? I do know Lye but didn't know this company. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the club, Robert. The members are very friendly people and you will get some rather good sharing of experiences. Regards, Peter,

Welcome to the club, Pete, My son has a 2,0Diesel X type that is 11 years old and similar mileage on the clock -- it has just passed its MOT with full colours and not even an advisory. A great car! Regards, Peter,
