  1. Rather good, Roy. Getting used to the idiosycracies of a new car does take time, but it can be an interesting journey. SWMBO has not done much driving over the last 5 or 6 years as she found the Jaguars rather too big, and so I bought her a Toyota Yaris Hybrid to get around in, and also which saves me form places like Waitrose and Saiisburys. On the occasions I drive it, I get quite mystified over the differences with instrumentation, although I have now mastered how to use the windscreen wipers! Regards, Peter.
  2. Pirelli used to be the tyre of choice for Jaguar, but they seemed not to be improving their tyres and concentrating too much on their racing tyres. Goodyear, Michelin, Vredestein and Dunlop all concentrated on the bigger market first and racing afterwards and his showed in the tyre surveys. Pirelli seemed not to understand that the bulk market produced more money and with more money they could indulge themselves in producing racing tyres. Peter.
  3. Last year I was in Norway and never drank alcohol unless I was on the ship, where the prices were very good -- less than £3 for a pint of Spitfire and £12 for a bottle of Prosecco. I did see two Jaguars! Peter.
  4. Looks quite good, Knut. Let us know your thoughts when you have visited it. Peter.
  5. Glad to see you have remembered your Latin, Ron Peter.
  6. Hi Ron, I work on the principle of the family motto as on theCoat of Arms. "Sit Semper sum Paratus" Peter.
  7. Welcome to the club, Andy. You could be right about the petrol filler cap, but there are electrical experts who will assist. In respect of slow fuel intake I would check if there is some kind of blockage -- gently. Noise on gentle braking --- does it sound a bit like metal on metal? I used to work at Shotton works from 1962 until 1971, and lived in Shotton for 4 years. Regards, Peter.
  8. I rather like the power source in the Armrest Cubby. I keep in there my true pressure gauge, my tyre depth gauge, and the two spanners needed t disconnect the batter, plus the various connection for charging the phones for myself and SWMBO. The glove box carries the owners manual, sunglasses for SWMBO, a pen, and surprisingly, my winter gloves which I have used over the last 40 years. A shoe box in the boot carries what could be described as Junk -- windscreen scraper, several cloths and an anti fly sponge. In the Right hand corner of the boot where the retaining band is there is a bottle of screenwash fluid, a bottle of engine coolant and a fire extinguisher. Peter.
  9. Hi Carole, I used the power source in the armrest Cubby for my dash cam. Peter.
  10. Hi Mike, I had an AWD 2.5 litre on an 05 plate also and never had a problem with uneven tyre wear. Peter.
  11. Hi Mike, I have not come across this too often, but I would check the tyres regularly, as I do. The pressure for the s type is on the right hand side pillar when you open the door is it is likely to be the sam on the x type. Regards, Peter.
  12. Hi All, I would like to echo Carole's comment about "ploughinh| the road. Only last Thursday I made an uphill turn into a pub car park with our two grandchildren in the back and slightly grounded. The S Type is a low car, and when you have seen many pieces of grounding evidence on some speed bumps one could make a decision not to have yours alongside them. Regards, Peter.
  13. Welcome to the Club, Stephen. Quandary? Yes, but I think you will enjoy your S Type a little more than your Audi. Regards, Peter.
  14. Thanks, Joe, When you have a car running very well, and you are 83 you are not inclined to change it. I have had a look at the site and It could be well worth a visit to Tipton with about £250 in my back pocket Regards, Peter.
  15. Hi Joe, As my s type does not fit into the garage and sits on the driveway when dot on the road I am quite interested in a good rust protection. Can you tell me the cost for an s type that is 10 years old. Regards, Peter.
  16. Hi Carole, The Ambla seat covering did indeed appear in the 240 and the 340, but somewhere, I think it was in a sales brochure for the USA that I looked at while doing my research on the Jaguar Mark 2 indicated that the 1960 version had leather seats as an optional extra, and I think that most of the cars produced had that option fitted. I don't know where I found that brochure, but when I have the time I will look it out from the mountain of paper I have used. On the use of wood in cars, my 1962 Triumph Herald had a lot of wood, mostly used to stop water getting in through the floor. Sadly, and with 98k on the clock and the MOT ,which was a 5 year one and which only had brakes, lights and steering, to pass issued me with an advisory that the car was falling apart, the car finished up on the Council Tip! Regards, Peter.
  17. Just a little addition, Ron in respect pf the Mark2. The Mark 2 was quite a basic car, and didn't have leather seats, using what we call rexine. Three years after if was produced Bill Lyons wanted a bit more luxury, and instead of just adding it to the Mark2 he introduce a very similar car which he called the Mark2 - S Type, which had the leather seats and a few more luxury and engineering bits. It was built alongside the Mark 2. Peter.
  18. An E Type driven by the daughter of Malcolm Sayer who designed it. I took the photo myself at Swansway Jaguar in Crewe. Peter.
  19. Quite Correct, Joe. Malcolm Sayer, who designed the Competition Car the XK120 for William Lyons has worked for the Bristol Aircraft Company and introduced not only aerodynamics but also used the power to weight ratio to increase the speed. The D Type [XK 140] used all of these in it Le Mans history. The E Type [XK 150] was again designed with lightness in mind and would certainly have used the lightest and strongest materials available. Regards, Peter.
  20. Hi All, I am having a problem with pairing my iPhone7. I never had a problem with my two previous 'phones. It is refusing to "Discover" my 'phone. I did get it going yesterday, but after a quiet nightie has reverted to where it was before. As a suggestion, should I tell, or even ask, my s type to "forget" this device and try from the beginning again. Peter.
  21. Hi Carole, I have never had the DPF Full message, but I do used the manual hold every now and then to keep the revs over 2000. Preventative maintenance! Peter.
  22. Hi Tom, The three steps completed. 1. Search and research. 2. Try and buy. 3. Enjoy. Oh Boy!! Regards, Peter.
  23. My 10 year old s type's seats were getting a little worse for wear, especially the driver's seat. Two hours hard work and I have a result.
  24. God did send the message 100 years ago, but young Billy Lyons was messing around with motor bikes at the time. But I did like the Burr Walnut on my Rovers, and I think yje Maple on my S Type does suit the SE trim. Peter.
  25. It looks very nice, Joe. But the Ivory armrest does stand out like a carrot in a rhubarb pie! My s type has Dove grey upholstery which goes well with a dark grey armrest! Peter,
