Hi Jim, I have a 2007 model which left the production line on the 13th March 2013. Good solid car. Although I have fitted a leaper, The car is the same as it left the factory. You car has the "Waterfall" which is the traditional grill for the Jaguar Mark 1, Mark 2 and the 1963 - 69 S Type -- I would be incline to keep it. Regards, Peter. Regards

Welcome to the club, Daniel. There is a free App called Vehicle Smart which is worth looking at, although the car will not have an MOT record being only three years old. The mileage is quite high and you will need to find out what kind of driving had been done -- long regular commutes or sporadic very long journeys. I once bought a Rover *825 V6 petrol with 22k on the clock but only 8 months old and it was a great car which I kept for 11 years and traded in after I had done 100k myself. Having said that I would have another good look around at other 3 year old similar cars and see what mileages are on them before making up you mind. Regards, Peter.

Hi Ron, and other S type owners, I read your post with interest, and I think you have hit the nail on the head in regards to the Jaguar Mk 2. The Jaguar Mark 2 was produced in 1959 and at first had the XK 3.4 litre engine, plus its other two cousins, the 3.8 litre and the 2.4 litre engines. There were several other differences from Jaguar models, with much less luxurious fittings, including the them new seat material known as Rexine. The Mark X Jaguar was introduced in 1961 and had many technical refinements such as independent rear suspension [which also went into the E Type] and a triple SU carburettor system to accompany the 3.8 litre XK engine. Bill Lyons was soon made aware that the Mark 2 was needing anordered an updated version of the Mark 2. The Code name of the Mark 2 was the "Utah II " and the new model was code named the "Utah III". The new model, although identical in looks to the Mark 2 was more luxurious and had the independent rear suspension instead of the live rear axle. It would have had the triple carburettor couple with the 3.8 litre engine, but the engine bay was not big enough and the car was sold with a twin carburettor system. The cars Sporty looks suited the name "S type" and that is how the car was marketed. The Mark X was renamed the Jaguar 420G and was developed further and the Jaguar 420 appeared and was given the 4.2 litre engine, which suited the American Market and was designed to replace the Mark 2 and S Type, but because they were selling well they were retained. Jaguar were sell 4 models at the same time. and eventually all were replace by the XJ6. The S type as we know it could well have had the mundane name as Jagusr Mark 3, bur Jaguar was then owned by Ford and Geoff Lawson pressed the company into letting him design a "real" Jaguar instead of a rebadged Ford, as had been done with the first X Types which were Ford Mondeo Ghias with a Jaguar Badge and which sold less that 100 cars before Ford saw the error of their ways, as it were, and let the Jaguar design team make proper Jaguars. The face life version of the S type was designed by Ian Callum who was the then head of the design department. I think that the S Type is a future classic, and when TATA feel a bit nostalgic, they might well produce an electric/hybrid car that uses the style of the S type and could be called the S Type Mark 4. Hi Mark, When my Rover 825 Sterling 1999 model] was up for its first full service at a Rover Main dealer in 2001 I noted the price being £325 + VAT, I decided to have a look around, and didn't have to look far, as when I was at Tesco a flyer was put on my car by a mobile mechanic just starting out in business, who had been trained by that same Rover Dealer. I rang him up and he did the full service for £70. I have now used him for 16 years. He has all the top diagnostic equipment, and did the cam belt change on my Rover for half the quoted price of a main dealer. His is knowledgeable across a wide range of cars - he changed the engine on my daughter in law's Megane overnight and has serviced and repaired my wife's car, my son's cars, and my cars to my satisfaction. He collects my car, takes it to his premises, organises the MOT when required and returns it the same day. My wallet has been much healthier for many years! Regards, Peter.

Hi Marty, I would inform the Trading Standards Officer in your locality. You also have a good case in court. I have found that often a letter which indicates that you are taking the matter to Court and will publicise the matter. I would then give him 7 days to make the refund. Welcome to the club, Garrie. "Restricted Performance" is a message I have never had, [luckily] and I think You will need an OBD2 Code reader to find out what is causing the problem.. As your car is a recent purchase, I would be inclined to go back to the dealer from whom you bought the car and hope that they can find the issue. Regards, Peter.

Welcome the the Club, Samuel. The s type is a great driver's car, and will always give you good, comfortable ride. The 2.7 Gemini Diesel is a very good engine with bags of speed. It does like Premium Fuel and the extra cost is worth it both in consumption and smoothness Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the club, Don. Nive to see another member from the USA ---- I did see an S Type in Phoenix a few years ago. My son has an X Type Jaguar which has got a similar problem but I managed to find a small plug in unit that enabled him to connect his iPhone and play music. I got it via Googling and finished up getting it though eBay and the cost was about £20 -- $25. Unfortunately I do knot know the link, but I am sure that you will be able to find one. I changed from Pirelli to Goodyear Eagle Assymetric, ad they came in top place in a survey which looked at road holding in the wet, noise rating, and EU compatibility. And they are very quiet! Peter.

Welcome to the Club, Chris. There are plenty of discs available for under £30 either on eBay or by doing a Google search. I got an update for the last disc produced of the S type and S type four years ago and it works fine. Regards Peter.

They are quite useful and I have not had a problem with them on my s type. They are becoming quite common and they are fitted on my wife Toyota Yaris Hybrid. Peter.

Welcome to the club, Chris. I have not heard much support for these "miracle" boxes, and personally I would not bother with them. Remapping has succeeded for many members who would like a bit more power. Peter.

A can of Diesel Magic should clean the injectors which is at the root of the problem. If you go to Halfords or a similar store you will find other additive which will cure the problem. Black smoke is an indication that you are burning too much fuel -- possibly cause by dirty injectors. Peter

Hi Steve, The XJS in its initial launch had a 5 litre engine -- Unfortunately there was a petrol crisis at the time of its launch and Jaguar, which was then part of British Leyland started putting other more frugal engines in over its period of manufacture. Regards, Peter

Well done, John, and the colour is fitting the car. This was the last car that Malcolm Sayer had started designing before his untimely death. He had been asked by Sir William Lyons to design a Grand Tourer to take the place of the E Type. So nice to see another one back on the road. Peter.

Hi Wendy, and welcome to the club. Joe is quite right. The dealer from whom you bought the car might be able to correct the issue. Other than that a visit to a Jaguar dealer or a garage with all the equipment should be able to solve it. I had a problem with a TV yeaterday when it declared there was no signal. Instead of getting out the ladder and looking at the aerial, I tighten up the connector! Regards Peter.
