Welcome to the club, Paul. I had the 2.5 AWD. Nice car! Hope you enjoy the club. Regards, Peter.

It would be difficult, Ralph, but if there were fewer insurance companies it would be easier. If the Government put a cap on profits, say no more than 5%, there would be fewer companies. They are really not in the business of insuring cars, but in the business of making money, Peter.

Welcome to the Club, Dave. You will enjoy the Jaguar experience, and I hope you enjoy the Club. Driving a Jaguar keeps you young! Regards, Peter. Lancastrian in Exile.

That is actually not a bad idea, Ralph. You pay your road fund licence every year, which confirms that you have a car on the road. You could also pay your car insurance at the same time:- 1] Basic Cost 2] Deduct no claims bonus. 3] Deduct excess. 4] PAY. Peter.

I went with Esure, as their offer last year was the cheapest at £540. Their renewal price was £404, so I'm there again. A lot depends on where you live, and Sutton Coldfield is only a bit less than London. Peter.

Welcome to the Club, Dev. What is the engine in your intended car? I would guess that it is the 3.0 litre or 2.5 Litre All Wheel Drive Petrol model. Both of those engines are well tried and very reliable. I had the 2.5 AWD [2005] and it was a very nice car, both to drive and for comfort. The clement weather you have in your part of the world should mean that the car is not rusty, but a quick look underneath the car, wheel arches and sills etc should ease your mind. Check if the car bodywork is nice and straight, and it is worth taking a small magnet in your pocked to check for any filler. Other than that, just enjoy your car. Regards, Peter. Photo of my X type.

Hi Adrian, After jagbits you could also try Jaguar Heritage Parts [I think] or the David Manners Group. You may like this photograph. It is of Mary Sayer - the daughter of the e type designer Malcolm Sayer, driving a e type. Peter.

Returning after many years with new car
Old Peter replied to Adrian S's topic in New Members Introductions
Welcome to the Club, Adrian. Only one comment --- WOW!!!!!!. Regards, Peter. -
I had a Rover Sterling 825 for 11 years. It was fitted with 15" wheels -- small for a big car - but it held the road like if it was on rails and the drive comfort was , as my son put it, "Like a big comfortable settee". Peter.

Welcome to the Club, Dave. The codes for you paintwork and trim are on the passenger side door pillar. You can then google the codes for the correct answer. My S type is Indigo Blue with Dove Grey leather seats and grey interior trim. S type colours are all rather good. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the Club, Lee. I have a S Type wth 18" wheels and they do a good job and I have heard from people that having bigger tyres does not improve the ride, but rather the opposite. Not only that, the tyres for an 18" rim are much cheaper than those for the larger rims. Regards, Peter.

Wiper motor reconstruction or replacement
Old Peter replied to wendyjml's topic in Jaguar Owners Lounge
Welcome to the Club, Wendy. Have you tried the David Manners Group, SNG Barrett, Rimmer Bros, or Jag Parts. You could also have a go on eBay. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter -
Welcome to the Club, Clive. Your XK has the same engine as my S Type, and so it should idle at 750 rpm. Is the foam under the engine cover in reasonable condition? Sometimes diesel engines are a bit noisy when on tickover, particularly when cold. Some 20 years ago I had a Rover 418 with the Peugeot engine that sounded like a Massey Ferguson when cold, but once you were in third gear it was as quiet as a mouse. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the club, Jim. I wanted and S Type from when I saw a mate of mine restoring and early fifties Jaguar, but 30 years of company cars had me driving whatever I was given. Retirement saw a Rover 825 Sterling, an X Type 2.5 AWD, and then 4 years ago a 2007 plate S type, which is the best car I have ever driven. You will enjoy the Jaguar experience. Regards, Peter.

I have had my s type for just over 4 years, and the only expenditure I have had is a replacement water pump. I believe that the S Type [Mk3] will be a classic car in the future, and in my opinion, has all the attributes. Great drivers car, wth bags of room for passengers, and has the grace to drive gently, and the pace to drive quickly. AsBill Lyons said of the Mk 1, "Grace, Pace and Space" Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the Club, Mike. We make good cars in Brummagem! My S type even knows the way to Dorset! Regards, Peter,

Hi David and welcome to the Club. What engine does you car have -- this will assist members if you have a question. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the club, Steve. Disconnecting the battery in an s type can cure a few things. I changed my battery when it was almost 5 years old and it immediately cured "Parkbrake Fault" Regards, Peter.
-
Welcome to the club, Colin. Great Drivers car and the 2,7 Diesel is a very good engine. Use premium fuel, and the car will look after you! Regards, Peter,
-
I note your comment, Paul, but spending over £300 on a remap to possibly cure a DPF issue when an additive that will do the same did seem a little expensive. My car droves well because of preventative maintenance probably due to making sure that the car does a longish run every month, and the occasional splash of a suitable additive to a tankful of premium fuel. I usually achieve around 45 to 50 mpg on a long motorway run and average over 30 mpg on shorter runs.. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the Club, Ken. As someone who is hanging on to his S type I know very little about the XF other than what owners say, and most of the comments are positive. You will get some good information from some members who drive these great cars. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the club, Raymond. There is nothing I can tell you about the x type that you don't already know. The 2.0 litre Diesel is a well tried and tested. It looks like your car is getting looked after a bit before you collect it. The Leythers are nice and genuine people so I reckon you will enjoy. Regards, Peter Lancastrian in exile.

Hi Mark and welcome to the club. I would be inclined to examine my bank balance to assess the options. But my head says I should get the rust cured first. Regards, Peter.

I am thinking of going to Halfords to have the `sram of phillips bulbs fitted. The 07 s type does not have fog lights to support headlights, and although I don't do much night driving I do like to see some of the road! Pete.

Hi Charles, Result! Peter.
