Hi Martyn, Good luck with your EGR valve change. I have heard that one of them is quite easy, although I don't know which one. My s type had an engine change under warranty when it was three years old so in effect it has only done just over 40,000 miles, Peter.

Hi Martyn, I think the cause of black smoke is unburnt fuel. You will need to put in a diesel additive, - something like Diesel Magic or a similar fuel system cleaning additive -- Wynne's diesel auto max etc. Also, use the premium fuel available -- shell v power etc. Regards, Peter.

Hi Carl, My s type came wth a matching alloy "proper" spare wheel factory fitted. I was an option on a 2007 s type, and probably other models. I was rather happy with that. SWMBO and myself have just celebrated our Golden Wedding anniversary and I bought her a car -- she had felt we didn't need two cars when I retired but the S Type was not a shopping trolley. Doing my bit for the universe I bought a two and and half year old Toyota Yaris Hybrid with 9,500 miles on the clock and a tyre inflator and a bottle of something to spray into the tyre. It just too 7 days to get a matching alloy rim, eea new tyre, a jack and wheelbrace for under £200. Much safer. Regards, Peter.

Hi Nik, The flat pan of the X type is the same as the Mondeo. The S Type was partlydeswgned in Detroit with the floor pan of a Lincoln. With most of the parts of all modern cars coming from specialist suppliers, you will often find that car can share bits with other cars. Prior to Rolls Royce being sold to Germany the company used a Buick engine from about 1946 onwards. Regards, Peter.

I don't know the x type bonnet catch system, but a squirt of WD 40 might assist, The Jet wash might have cooled a sensor and the car thinks that the temperature is lower that it is. I never use a jet wash, but stick wth the bucket of water to get road dirt off, a bucket with shampoo, and then a final bucket to rinse. Regards, Peter.

I thought gearbox oil too. With out gearboxes, supposedly sealed for life, many members change the old at circa 70,000 miles. It is possibly worth doing if topping up doesn't cure it. Peter.

Hi Tony, Using a clay bar needs some lubrication, and I would recommend Auto Glym detailing spray for the. That detailing spray is also very useful to take off milder mucky parts of the body work which will then allow you to polish with whatever wax that suits. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the club, Nik. I had a 2.5 AWD X type saloon, and the percentage of Mpndeo in it is is under 20%, and the bits that are Ford can be found in other cars also -- Mazda for example. The 2.5 AWD Engine was once described as "Nippy" by a Journalist, and although I wouldn't go that way to describe the car, it is certainly very quick with the manual gearbox, and driven carefully on longer trips it will return around 36 mpg.. Welcome to the Club, Damien. I only use my sat nav to get to locations I don't know and long journeys. It is a 2012 version using a disc, and seems OK with the odd exception. Personally,if I was in your position I wouldn't bother updating for the cost that Jaguar [and others] charge. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the club, Tony. Assuming the Sat Nav on the X type is the same as the S type, just switch on the ignition and the Navigation system and then Destination entry. You will see a map on the right hand side of the screen. Press "Change" and selected the country you want. You can get a disc update -- the last one is the 2012/13 version. It will say on the disc you have what year the disc it. You can buy the disc on eBay for about £25. Regards, Peter.

Hi Jan, and welcome to the club. Not having and EX, a phone call to a friendly dealer could answer your question. It could also be useful to check out a parts catalogue from some one like SNG Barrett, Rimmer Bros, or the David Manners Group. At a guess, however, facelift models do not have many changes to the body itself. Googleing the specification changes might give you the answer, Regards Peter.
