  1. H Steve, The s type is a lot of car, but I wanted the Mk2 S type in the late sixties but buying a house was more important in 1967. The X type is plenty of car and a pleasure to drive and a proper Jaguar. Regards, Peter.
  2. Hi Peter, I could not get any destination when I first got my S Type - eventually I found I was in Belgium. Peter.
  3. Hi Stephen, I used to own an X Type 2.5 SE AWD which was a very nice car, and I would probably still have it but for the fact that I was carjacked on my own drive. I would not discourage anyone from buying an X Type. However, the s type is a step up, as it were, roomier and also a great roadholder. I have my 2,7 D SE for nearly 4 years, and other than tyres and servicing I ave only to have a small leak from the water pump which only cost £150 fitted. A bit roomier but with a smaller boot than the X Type and it is one on the last to be made. I find it a great car, and when I bought it I made sure that it has all the bells and whistles. Have a test drive and see for yourself. The 3 ,0 ;litre petrol is also a very good car. Regards, peter.
  4. Hi Russ, The 3 litre petrol is a fantastic engine, and premium fuel seems enough. But for diesels, with a different exhaust system, [EGR valves and a DPF] even premium fuel needs a cleanup now and then just in case. Regards, Peter.
  5. Hi, Jamie, I had my 2.7D s type terracleaned a couple of years ago and it did improve both performance and consumption At £125 it seemed a fair price and the job took a just over an hour. But if you want your EGR valves cleaning there is a separate service costing a bit more. I do ge the waring light and code P0402 coming up occasionally an currently I use a Millers Additive which does the job. I also use Shell V power exclusively, as there is a Shell station 500 yards away which is also the cheapest in the area there than supermarkets. For a general decoke, Diesel Magic for under a tenner does not do a bad job. Regards, Peter.
  6. Hi Stephen, The car sounds rather good, and a bit of TLC with the leather will soon bring it up to a pristine condition. I give the leather in my s type a good feed and polish every couple of months. The cruise control on Jaguar is a good system, although I rarely use it myself, living in a major conurbation like the West Midlands. But it is nice to have on a long run. Put a couple of pictures f your car on when you get it. Regards, Peter. P.S. Where are you located?
  7. Hi Stephen, A good spec is quite important. My S Type SE has Over £11,000 worth of optional extras, even including a "proper" spare wheel. If there is anything you can bargain for, try it. If the carpets are worn, try for a new set. Regards, Peter.
  8. The weather is going to be good on the 2nd April. I have also had a message fro Swansway -- the will be a discount card for those attending that is worth having. Regards, Peter.
  9. Welcome to the club, Stephen. That sound like a nice car. On the downside as you say, is 113,000 miles on the clock. Being pragmatic, however, and a nitpicker by profession, I am inclined to look at how the car has been used, and if it has been the daily drive and back to work, plus general usage, 271 miles as week is not a big mileage, and the 2.2 litre engine is an up to date engine still being used by Jaguar. Look at the condition of the car -- it is a top of the range model and if it is nice and clean, no damage to the upholstery etc, and the price is right you should be OK. There is also a free App called Vehicle Smart which will also gove you its MOT Hjistory which is well worth looking at. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter.
  10. Hi Paul, A lot depends on your juorney to work, as city traffic takes its toll on fuel. I always use premium fuel and on longs runs I have over 50 mpg on three or four occasions. I changed to Shell V power about two years ago and noticed the difference immediately. Regards, Peter.
  11. Welcome to the club , Marco. I asm sorry to hear about your experience. It is most regrettable when any manufacturer sends out a poor quality product, and also regrettable when it is a premium manufacturer like Jaguar. Unfortunately sometimes quality control sometimes misses something and the error rate is quite minimal, although if it is your car that statement does not apply or indeed comfort you. I once had a company car that was delivered to me with 5 dents in the body work and none of the lights working. It spent 5 days at the local Ford main dealer. I also had a Toyota Avensis in 1998 as a company car, with garish upholstery which transferred itself to you clothes, faulty steering apparently known by the manufacturer "All the Avensis models are like that" was the answer to the complaint. It put me off Toyota for 19 years until three weeks ago when I bought a Toyota Yaris Hybrid as a 50th Wedding anniversary present for SWMBO, which was presented immaculately, drives very well and ha a great build quality --- it been built for 19 years though --- it often takes time to get a car right. I hope you succeed in getting the car sorted out and enjoy the rest of you time with you XE. Regards, Peter.
  12. Hi Paul and Trish, Modern batteries are all usually pretty good. Some people prefer Bosch and some Varta etc. There is a small but very knowledgeable Auto Accessory shop close to where I live, and he fitted a Platinum Battery which are reputedly rather good. Halfords have a fair selection and they will fit it for you. BUT make sure you have your radio code with you as disconnecting the battery mean you have to reset your settings, which is not too difficult. There is a post with the full details of hoe to do it but if you can't find it get back to me and I will send you the full details. Regards, Peter.
  13. Welome to the Club, Gary. Nice car, and I think you will enjoy it. I almost 60 years of driving, the s type is the best car I have ever driven Regards, Peter.
  14. Less than two weeks to go. Are there any more members who want to have breakfast surrounded by Jaguars? Peter.
  15. Welcome to the club, David. There will be strong opinion on both sides -- there a quite a few XK owners who will speak from experience. I would go for the tried and tested, personally, as a safe bet. But having said that, both engines are tremendous. Regards, Peter.
  16. I have found that all of these Tyre and exhaust fitting companies just want your money for mediocre work. I have just had my wheels fully refurbished and two of them had faults that needed a repair. None of the Tyre Fitting companies had noticed them. I took my car to a local [Lichfield] called First Class Alloys -- a small company -- that are well respected locally for quality of work. The wheels, plus the spare wheel which is a matching alloy, were repaired and all the flaws removed before being acid bathed, cleaned in water, and then powder coated. Just over 3 days work for £528 which is good value. The same company source an brand new alloy wheel for my son when his X Type had a blow out and the wheel was damaged beyond repair. I had had several notes for a new wheel for over £300 and a second hand one of £200. His charge for taking a brand new cream coloured wheel, giving it a powder coating in silver to match was £180. If any one in the locality needs a refurbish I would recommend him. Regards Peter.
  17. Hi Paul, I have my first Jaguar when I was 77 and my 11 year old Rover 825 Rover Sterling was getting rather tatty and a respray would have cost more than the car was worth. Someone said that a Jaguar was an old man's car --- not so. Driving a Jaguar keeps you young! Regards, Peter.
  18. Welcome to the club, Paul. Sharing information is part of the club's success. If any one has an issue there is always someone who can offer a possible solution. The s type is a great car, but if you don't treat it correctly it will let you know. Use premium fuel and keep your battery in good order, and you will get your reward. Regards, Peter.
  19. I still have a lump hammer in the tool box. Last used on a car when my son's mini would not start. A clunk on the starer motor solved that problem!
  20. That's the one I got in 2013, and I was told that there were not going to be any more. My son uses his iPhone to do sat nav duties. Peter.
  21. Hi Alex, I forgot Leicestershire was a rather large county. I have used a mobile mechanic since 2001 and he know everything about cars! But he only operated around Birmingham, Lichfield and Sutton Coldfield. There is a Topic on the Club Forums which lists members' recommendations. I will keep am eye open and let you know. Regards, Peter.
  22. Fantastic array of cars, Terje!
  23. I had issues wth KwikFit some years ago. I had a company car and a KwikFit card, which I used until I found that one of my staff who also had a company car had been charged over £2000 -- this came to me from our Finance Director who brought it to my notice. I asked to see the bill, and when I challenged KwitFit as to why a car that was only just two weeks out of warranty and had been serviced a month ago by the main dealer needed so many new parts, when all it had gone into KwikFit of two tyres. The bill was reduced by 60%. I keep a file for every car I have had into which goes all receipts other than fuel. Nitpicking, but rather useful. Peter.
  24. Welcome to the club, Tina. I am not a techie either, but I found that the Bluetooth connection very easy, and works perfectly. I rarely use the phone in the car, however, and never accept a call if I think it would interfere with driving. When I have a passenger, the passenger may answer or make a call. I don't think many members use the car phone as in Jaguar. Good luck, Peter.
  25. I have got the ultimate solution to the DPF issue and its relation to short trips. I will not do any more short trips to places like supermarkets, garden centres etc in my Jaguar 2.7D. I have bought SWMBO a car -- A Toyota Yaris Hybrid. It is currently averaging 76.3 mpg, and the Road Fund licence is £0. Peter.
