Hi David, I have the Ring Solar Power Battery Maintainer -- RSP180. It has not got the power to charge a 90ah battery from flat, but it does keep it topped up. I got it online from Car Care. About £18. Regards, Peter.

Sometime you see stuck on emblems on the back of cars. One I saw many years ago stuck on the back of a Triumph Herald with the 1196cc engine It read "GT" and while the Triumph Herald was a very nice car, it was never a Grand Tourer. Peter.

Good fully charged batteries are very essential in most modern cars with plenty of electrical equipment. The electrical handbrake can be a nuisance, though. I bought a battery isolator for the very same reason, but for the very same reason highlighted by Joe it is still in its packaging in the boot. Fitting a new battery and a Ctek battery condition indicator [cost about £7] and I also a solar charger to keep it topped up has cured the "Parkbrake Fault" message. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the Club, Andy. The Heritage Motor Museum was the venue a8 months ago for a Midlands meet, and shop;d enough members be interested we could start a list for such a meet later in the year. At the moment there is the possibility of an "occasion" in Crewe, of which more anon, I will be in touch soon. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the club, Lizz. I used to have an X type on an 95 Plate and a Samsung Phone, and had the same problem. It did pair with my S Type though. I have the guide for the s type with the touch screen, and I wonder if it is the same for the x type with the touch screen. If your car has the touch screen I will send a photo of the relevant pages from the s type manual. Regards, Peter.

Hi All, While I firmly believe that this danger ought to be known to all drivers, particularly Diesel drovers, I have done a little bit of checking and find that this fault happens rarely. I have also found that it has never happened on a Jaguar. At the same time, Joe has pointed us towards a problem that has occurred before, as Frank has shown, and it is well to know what any problem is and the ways to avoid it. Regards, Peter.

This issue shows how important oil is in cars, particularly in diesel engines. Preventative maintenance, while it can be a bit tedious, is always worth the time spent doing what are really minor jobs. Peter.

Welcome to the Club, Robert. We are a friendly group of people, and sharing information really does assist. Regards, Peter.

Hi Joe, I have only extracted oil twice, once about two pints and replaced with 1 point fresh oil --- The oil was changed a couple of months later. The second time I took all the oil out and replaced it. I do have the oil changed every service -- the oil and a new filter costs about £75 --- quite cheap, really. I had on the first Honda Dreams in the UK --- 1962 --- and I used to change the oil every other Thursday when I got home from work and the engine was hot. I was off every other Friday and would refill with oil, I did 100k on that motor cycle in three years without a problem Regards, Peter.

Thanks Joe, I had seen that she time ago, and I am quite cautious about oil. I bought a suction pump, and when my oil is over the top I pump some out, check, and then a a pint of Magnatec tp bring it unto the correct level. It seems to work as my car is running very smoothly. Regards, Peter.

Hi Tim, and welcome to the club. The s type is a great car - a driver's car that is also very comfortable. And thanks for your advice on the DPF problem! Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the club, John. My son has a 2006 x type 2 litre diesel which appears to have two pipes affecting the turbo. A split one cause him to lose power. I would check out bot of them including the connection. Regards, Peter.

Exactly the same for me, Gary. Not much difference in price. Peter.

A lot depends on the colour of your car. The orange looks good on mine and stands out as it is meant to do. Peter.

Hi Steven, and welcome to the club. There are two kinds of leaper -- one being a stick on which is very easy to install and a screw on which can be done also by yourself. Most garages would also do it for you. Let us see a photo when it's done. Regards, Peter.

Hi Geoff, I have never come across that. My boot lid opens with the key fob when the car is locked without the alarm going off. I would check the electrical connections. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the Club, Chirag. Great car, and the flagship to the Jaguar Fleet. I hope you enjoy showing the French that we make great cars in the Britain. Regards, Peter.

Welcome to the club, Mike. I couldn't guess where but I think you need to look around the engine to see if something is touching the engine. I would be the best route to do it wth the engine running to locate the smell. Regards, Peter.

Hi Bob, Without seeming the car's glovebox it is impossible to offer a solution. I think you would need an Auto locksmith. Peter.

Welcome to the Club, Simon. You have a nice car to start you Jaguar ownership. When I bought my fist Jaguar the salesman told me I would never own another make of car. He was right! Enjoy you car, and I hope you will also enjoy the club. Regards, Peter.

Hi Gareth, The Sat Nav [Doris] can be updated and you can get a 2012 disc from quite a few sources for under £30. I did when I bought my s type which is the same system as yours and that disc is the last produced for the 2007 model. I have found the Sat Nav much better than the TomTom I have previously, although, as you said a bit weird. I do like weird things, though! I am fairly sure that you can update the sound system and there ate several members who can give you some absolutely perfect advice on how to do it. One of my son's has a 2006 X type and I bought him a widget for £17 which allow him to listen to music on his iPhone, so I am sure you will be able to update quite easily. Meanwhile, enjoy your Jaguar --- We make some very good cars in Brummagem! Regards, Peter.

Hi Alan, Glad you have got your car ready for towing and hope that the weather in a few weeks is OK. For my last ten years of caravanning I towed with a Rover Sterling 2.5 Auto and used to increase the tyre pressure by 10%.when towing. The Rover was a Front Wheel Drive, which is the difference and there was a bit in the owners manual giving me guidelines on towing. When it comes to these electronic pressure systems I am quite neanderthal, so my answer is that i don't know. Have a good time! Regards Peter.

Hi Rod, and welcome to the club. I have heard of this before, but have never come across it. When I read this about three years ago it was dismissed as a 'scare" theory. I would be inclined not to take chances and I would first change the oil in the sump --- not expensive. I would then switch on the engine and let it tick over on your drive for a short time to see if anything untoward happens. You might also need to have the DPF regenerated in a garage. I am not a mechanic, but if you think that the lubricating oil has been contaminated changing it will at least put your mind at rest. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter.
