  1. Welcome to the Club, David. The x type is a nice car, and the 2.0 litre diesel is a great engine. Once you get it sorted to your satisfaction you will certainly enjoy the Jaguar experience. Regards, Peter.
  2. Welcome to the Club, David. The S Type is a great car -- I really enjoy my S type, which even with the 2.7 Diesel is still a very quick car. The comfort of the s type is exceptional, and even in the West Midlands where they made them, it is still a head turner, I hope you enjoy the club as much as you enjoy your Jaguars. Regards, Peter. My car now has the Leaper on the bonnet.
  3. Hi George and welcome to the Club. After the battery has been disconnected you will have to reset all your previous settings. The windows will have to be lowered by keeping your finger on the button till the windows is fully lowered, and then waiting about 10 seconds, then raise them in the same way. You will have to do that with all the windows. That is what to do with the S Type. It ought to be similar on the XK8. Regards, Peter.
  4. That gives me some indication as what to do to ensure it doesn't happen to my car. Peter.
  5. I was having some problems --- I changed my 4 year and 11 months old battery, and magically all problems went Peter.
  6. And I forgot to say Welcome to the Club, Steven! Peter.
  7. Batteries, as Joe has said, do play a very important part in the operation of the S Type. Batteries start to age after about 4 and a half years, so it is worth checking the age of your battery and see it is holding a charge. Peter.
  8. Hi Joanne, Thanks for your message, but my son's Lichfield is the City of Lichfield in Staffordshire. I am sure he would like to live in Dorset, though. Regards, Peter.
  9. Welcome to the Club, Ron. The x type is a very good car and a Jaguar through and through. Like every make of car is has parts in common with other brands, and the use of modern technology is shared right across the whole of automotive manufacturing, including Rolls Royce, Aston Martin, BMW [FWD from Rover], and quite a few others. Regards, Peter.
  10. Welcome to the club, Alex. There is nothing wrong with the 3.0 litre diesel as long as you remember that a diesel engine has to have a slightly different driving technique to a petrol engine. Gently to start and let it tick over for a few seconds when you stop to let the turbo slow down, and use premium fuel and the diesel will perform very well indeed. Voice control has not been fitted on my car, which is OK by me, but their are several members with experience of retrofitting such modern bits of technology. I am sure you will get some good assistance. Regards Peter.
  11. Hi Trevor, Is the battery fully charged? That could well be the issue. Regards, Peter
  12. Correct, Paul. Making and fitting a towbar to an XKR looks to be an accident waiting to happen too.
  13. Hi Mike, I understand that the West Midlands Central Region is the local section of the Jaguar Enthusiasts Club, which is another Jaguar Club -- there are several -- and is a Club that has a £50 per annum membership fee. Regards, Peter.
  14. Doris is much more polite than Imelda on my previous sat nav. "Take a left turn soon if it is not too much trouble" is much nicer than "Turn left NOW."
  15. What club is that in Great Barr, Mike?
  16. Men never get lost. Maybe they are not in the place they wanted to be, but they know where they are. That means they are not lost!
  17. Hi Martyn, Welcome to the club and good luck with your restoration of a classic car. I have always found the DVLA very helpful, and I think if you ring them with the vin numbers they will assist in providing a registration plate and suitable documentation. Let us see some photos from start to completion. Regards, Peter.
  18. A problem easy to solve with SWMBO.
  19. Hi Adam, My s type just makes the noise of the lock opening and closing. Peter.
  20. Welcome to the club, Jason. There are several members who either works for Jaguar or who work for Jaguar Dealers who may be able to help. I think you will enjoy your car and I hope you enjoy the Club. Meanwhile, I will have a trawl around to see if I can find anything. Regards, Peter.
  21. Welcome to the club, Paul. Are you able to get the VIN number of the car? -- That will enable you to get details of any factory fitted options. Regards, Peter.
  22. Hi Paul mac, There are many horror stories about Jaguar servicing and maintenance most of which are either apocryphal or do involve a lack of preventive maintenance, such as weekly checks on tyre wear and pressure, fluid levels, leaks, oil levels etc. I have used a mobile mechanic for 15 years who was Rover trained, but who knows a lot about cars and has all the diagnostic equipment needed and charges about a third of the charges that a main dealer does. I would advise that you find such a person or garage who will treat your car as his/her own and does a good job. Regards, Peter.
  23. Welcome back, Paul. I hope you are fully recovered and that 2017 will be a good year for you. Regards, Peter.
  24. Welcome to the club, John. The 2.5 AWD X type is a great drivers car, and holds the road very well, I used to have one until a couple of scroats carjacked me. It has never been found but the miscreants are serving Mer Majesty for 8 years in one of her establishments. Regards, Peter. [Lancastrian in exile]
  25. Welcome to the Club, Ronnie. A nice car and a nice colour -- My s type is the same cotour and and keeps me young when I am driving. Regards, Peter.
