Hi George and welcome to the Club. After the battery has been disconnected you will have to reset all your previous settings. The windows will have to be lowered by keeping your finger on the button till the windows is fully lowered, and then waiting about 10 seconds, then raise them in the same way. You will have to do that with all the windows. That is what to do with the S Type. It ought to be similar on the XK8. Regards, Peter.

Batteries, as Joe has said, do play a very important part in the operation of the S Type. Batteries start to age after about 4 and a half years, so it is worth checking the age of your battery and see it is holding a charge. Peter.

Like every make of car is has parts in common with other brands, and the use of modern technology is shared right across the whole of automotive manufacturing, including Rolls Royce, Aston Martin, BMW [FWD from Rover], and quite a few others. Welcome to the club, Alex. There is nothing wrong with the 3.0 litre diesel as long as you remember that a diesel engine has to have a slightly different driving technique to a petrol engine. Gently to start and let it tick over for a few seconds when you stop to let the turbo slow down, and use premium fuel and the diesel will perform very well indeed. Voice control has not been fitted on my car, which is OK by me, but their are several members with experience of retrofitting such modern bits of technology. Hi Paul mac, There are many horror stories about Jaguar servicing and maintenance most of which are either apocryphal or do involve a lack of preventive maintenance, such as weekly checks on tyre wear and pressure, fluid levels, leaks, oil levels etc. I have used a mobile mechanic for 15 years who was Rover trained, but who knows a lot about cars and has all the diagnostic equipment needed and charges about a third of the charges that a main dealer does. I would advise that you find such a person or garage who will treat your car as his/her own and does a good job. Regards, Peter.
