  1. Hi Don, Your s type seems remarkably different from mine in respect of filling up the fuel tank. I click open the cover with the dashboard switch and just unscrew the cap which is quite easy. I would guess someone has retro fitted your tank cap. I hope these photo's help. Regards, Peter.

Pensioners option, Trevor.  It is possible that the battery is coming to the end of its life  -  5 years old in February!

      Hi Peter

Sorry, only just seen this post and your question.

Yes, 5 years is a long time for a battery....would definitely recommend replacing it and ensure that you get a quality (usually a little more expensive) battery.

Don't forget to use your Halfords Card for 15% discount if you buy from them

      Cheers   Trevor

      Hi Trevor,

Battery seems OK at the moments after  a couple of long runs.  I use Halfords quite a lot, and have a good relationship with the local auto centre.

I usually go for quality in both tyres and batteries.

      Regards,

      Peter.

  5. Hi Everyone, There seems to be some kind of hiccup on the site with quite a few repeat posts.. The answer is probably to be a little patient if the post doesn't come on quickly. I managed to do one myself this morning! I have tried to delete surplus posts, but for some reason I can only do it after 3 or 4 hours. Regards, Peter.

  8. That's pretty good for an XJ, Tony.
  9. Welcome to the Club, Mike. Driving a Jaguar makes an older person much younger. The Sportbrake is a great car and it is a pity it was discontinued. Just enjoy! Regards, Peter.

  13. Hi Tracy, and Welcome to the club. It was quite cold yesterday, and the Park Brake on my s type stuck on. When I eventually got it to clear by disconnecting the battery, it failed again. Agains I did the same clearing process covered the car over after running the engine for 20 minutes. It was OK this morning. I did some checking, as I thought that the only reason could be a faulty module, which a main dealer would charge £224 + fitting. One of the answers I got indicated that it could be the car battery being low on power. Jaguar cars, having a lot of electrical goodies on board, do need a fully charged battery, and this could be possible in your case. My car is now sitting outside the garage being charged. I hope it works for you, and I hope you let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter.
  14. Hi David, and welcome to the club. I had the same problem with my s type with the passenger door mirror not adjusting. Without taking anything apart, I went for the easiest option of checking if the mirror had come out of its socket. I just put a finger on each side of the mirror and gently but firmly put enough pressure on and found that it clicked back in quite easily. Regards, Peter.
  15. Welcome to the the club, Don. Your s type has a DPF as does mine. The oil recommended has a two year guarantee and is the one also recommended by Jaguar. I also use it and my car runs beautifully. Regards, Peter.
  16. Hi Paul, There are plenty of replacement discs to be found via Google. I replied my 2007 disc with a 2012 disc. I just stuck it in the slot in the boot and it worked. You shouldn't have to pay more that £30. Regards, Peter.
  17. Welcome to the Club, Neil. The Members will be looking forward to your opinions of the F Type after your experiences with another great Jaguar. Regards, Peter.
  18. Welcome to the Club, Paul. As I do not have an XF I cannot answer your questions in detail, but I will give you some pointers. One of the things you can do is to find out the original optional extras that were factory fitted. This you can do by asking a Jaguar dealer to do a check on your car using your VIN number, This will tell you when the car was built to the date and the date it left the factory. It will also give you the optional extras fitted, as it will surprise you how many extras there are on top of the basis standard of the car itself. There is also a website ----VinDecoderz.com which could be a quicker way to get the details although I am told that it does not always work. Let know how you get on. Regards Peter.,
  19. That's great, Tony!
  20. Welcome to the Club, Andy. I was glad that I was given the full set of documents and manuals when I got my S Type, as others had not got one when they got their car. It is only quite recently that they have become available online and recommendations are very useful. I will have a look at that site too! Regards. Peter.
  21. I might try the potato on my squeaky window, Andy. I hope this thread doesn't go astray and starts talking about the type of potato to use Peter.
  22. Hi Neil, Could just be a dirty blade. Put some vinegar on a kitchen tissue and give the blade a good clean, and like the windscreen area where the squeak occurs. Regards Peter.
  23. Welcome to the club, Alistair. I hope you will enjoy the club as much as you will enjoy your Jaguar. My S type has a different Sat Nav to the latest XF and I am able to mute Doris when needed at the push of a button. Hopefully those members with a knowledge of the XF will be able to assist with both the Sat Nav and the mirror which I can do quite easily with the window/mirror controls. Regards, Peter.
  24. Hi Gary, It is often worth spending a few shillings more for something that will last much longer. I had a bad blow out on a tyre in the North East of England late on a Saturday and managed to get to a large tyre company that was still open. They fitted a tyre and gave me a 12 month guarantee. They said that they didn't have the Brand of tyre I wanted, unfortunately. Eight thousand miles and 13 months later, that tyre needed replacing! Certain after market parts are needed when you cannot get the genuine one, but if I can get the genuine part that's is what I go for. Regards, Peter.
  25. Welcome to the club, Mike. I have not seen Wire Wheels on an XJ, although I have seen them on a XK. From what I gather both kinds of wheel are possible to fit, with the "Knock on" wheels seeming to be the most popular. Regards, Peter.
