  1. It's not the oil that makes the engine quieter. The oil just adds more lubrication to the fuel delivery system and the valves and seats. Modern diesel is low sulphur and has various additives depending on which you buy. Supermarket diesel lacks the quantity of additives that you would get from say BP and as a result burns differently. The oil just gives a bit extra lubrication which isn't a bad thing obviously. Most diesel these days doesn't have the lubricating properties that it used to have 10 years ago thanks to EU emissions regulations. By using the 2 stroke oil, it is designed to be burned in the combustion chamber and using the fully synthetic, low ash stuff you get fewer, if any, deposits in the exhaust system, EGR valve, catalytic converter etc. The Millers EcoMax is what does the quietening and gives the extra engine response by raising the cetane level of the fuel. With a higher cetane level the fuel ignites more readily and burns faster, hotter and more completely. Because of this, it makes the engine run smoother, quieter and more responsively. Just the same as unleaded having a 92, 95 and a 97 Octane rating. The higher the Octane, the more combustible the fuel.
  2. Hi Steve, Jaguar did produce cars with a lot of optional extras. Sounds like yours is like mine. Mine is the Sport but has cruise control, bluetooth, xenon lights and a few other bits that weren't standard on that model. Good result from CT. You should book with them. You won't regret it. As for Millers, it is the diesel eco max that I use. I've used redex before and it does the job of gradually cleaning but it isn't a patch on the Miller stuff. The difference is noticeable within a couple of miles. As soon as it's mixed up in the tank and delivered to the pump, you can hear and feel the difference. Throttle response is improved almost immediately and the engine quietens noticeably. Try this link for the oil. This is the stuff I use -http://shop.1stmx.co.uk/castrol-2-stroke-motocross-oil-power-1-racing-2t-13268-p.asp Cheers Mick
  3. In addition to my last post, I have been running my Jag with 'Millers EcoPower' fuel additive and Castrol fully synthetic, Low-Ash, 2-stroke oil. I add both to the fuel tank with each fill-up. Millers uses 50ml per tank, and I put about the same in of the 2-stroke oil. The difference is a massively quieter and smoother engine and it is noticeable immediately. Cold starts no longer sound like a Massey-Ferguson, and at a 50-60mph cruise I can no longer hear the engine. Millers raises the combustibility of the diesel so you get a cleaner, more complete burn which results in less soot and nothing to block EGR valves, and the oil adds lubrication to the fuel system and the top end of the engine. You need to make sure you use top-quality fully synthetic 2-stroke oil. It must be the low-ash variety. It leaves no particles in the exhaust system so doesn't clog DPF's or EGR's. Before using this combination, I would get the usual diesel smoke under low-rev hard acceleration which could be clearly seen at night in the car headlights behind. Now it emits nothing! No smoke at all regardless of what I do. And if you do the maths, it equates to an additional cost of around £1.40 per tankful. Well worth it in my opinion. Hope this helps someone
  4. Hi Steve, Sorry for not responding sooner, I hadn't checked the forum for a few days. CT operate nationwide. Although they are based in Cornwall, they have technicians who 'live' on the road. Tommy, who performed my upgrade, spends his week away from home travelling the country, so don't worry about not being local. I live near Peterborough! When Tommy left my place at 1030am he was setting off for Norwich for his next job It's worth sending in an email to CT. I did that and Kevin responded within a few hours, and replied to every email I sent. Absolutely superb customer relations. Also, if you aren't happy with the install, you have 14 days to have it removed by them and your money refunded, but I highly doubt you will......... As I said in my original post, it's the best £295 I've spent. There may be cheaper alternatives out there but I expect they will be bog-standard upgrade programs, whereas CT modify your original ecu program rather than delete and replace it. They also develop their own software upgrades rahter than copy someone elses work. There are 'tuning boxes' out there that are about £70 on ebay etc, but I would avoid these if you value your engine. They do nothing but increase fuel pressure. Nothing else. And that fuel increase isn;t matched with an increase in turbo pressure so all you get is black smoke, excess carbon/soot, blocked egr valve, and as you have a 2008 model I expect it will have a DPF on it which will also become blocked. Let me know if you go for a CT upgrade and what you think afterwards. Mick
  5. I think I have Autodata to 2011 of it's any help
  6. As promised in another thread, I'm reporting my findings from my recent ECU upgrade. I have a 2005 X-Type 2.2 Diesel Sport, which pulled really well from low down revs, but quickly faded off after the initial rush. The new ECU program has given a massive kick in the !Removed! from just above tickover, and the power delivery continues right through the rev range up toward the redline. It now drives much more like a petrol turbo than a diesel! With an initial rush of power which now doesn't really back off until gearchange. Although 'off-the-line' acceleration is quicker, it's not where the biggest gain is. The car now charges uphill and the acceleration in 4th, 5th and 6th is akin to an aeroplane take-off! I've 'chipped' cars before but the last was in the days of removing the actual chip from the ecu and replacing them with upgraded ones. Celtic Tuning - www.celtictuning.co.uk - turned up at my house exactly on time and performed the upgrade with a laptop. The difference is astonishing! I decided on CT as their website goes into a lot of detail about the methods they use to devise their ecu programs using their own rolling road tests, complete with exhaust gas temperature monitoring etc to ensure the programs stay within the engines 'safe' limits. I'm not new to mechanics and to engine tuning. I've done my share of engine strips and modifications so I know a thing or two about it. The website didn't give me any indication that they were making anything up, so I bit the bullet and booked. If you're looking for a professional service, easy booking and a hassle free performance upgrade, which won't harm your engine and doesn't adversely affect fuel economy, book it with Celtic! It cost £295, but it was worth every penny!
  7. Check the offset is the same. Given that the X-Type is Mondeo based and the S-Type isn't, I expect that even if the stud fitment matches up the offset may differ, in which case the wheel won't be positioned correctly and the weight won't be distributed over the bearing evenly, which will cause premature bearing failure. The offset is the position of the mounting face relative to the edge of the wheel. The hub face sits further in or out of the centre of the wheel depending on the requirement of the vehicle it is designed to fit. Incorrect offset will cause bearing wear and different handling issues.
  8. Which Jag do you have?
  9. I nearly bought a BRG one. It's a lovely colour. Instead though, I found my Ultra Violet one. Only made in this color for a year or so and quite a rare shade of blue. Several blue ones around but not many in ultra violet. I love the x-type. Will keep this one until I can stretch to the XF
  10. For the cost of a replacement on ebay I'd say it has to be worth a try. You might get lucky, like I did, and get a part that works perfectly for around 25 quid
  11. I think it has to be a fault as since replacing my climate panel, both my screens are the same brightness. The panels are really easy to disassemble so it wouldn't take a lot to strip the brighter panel and put something over the led/bulb/diffuser to reduce the brightness.
  12. PROBLEM SOLVED! When I fitted my bluetooth audio receiver, I removed my displays and scratched the heater panel. I bought a 2nd hand one from eBay for £25 to restore it to former glory and fitted it today. The two screens are now exactly the same brightness, so it looks like it is a fault. My original heater screen was brighter than the radio one, but now it is dimmer and the two are matched perfectly and stay matched when I change the brightness level on the headlight switch. The part I bought has a different part number to my original one and was manufactured 2 years earlier but so long as the front panel is the same, the rest matches up fine despite the part numbers. Hope this helps you out.
  13. Excellent news! Well, not the needing new tyres bit, but at least it's an easier fix and saved you the money of having replaced the bearing only to still have the problem.
  14. Drop them an email. They are extremely helpful and respond quite timely. They may do one for your XJ but I think the website isn't updated that regulary. I think they'll be worth the little extra given that the quoted figures are higher than most of the competition and I just had an email from them saying that the figures I was quoted are minimum figures and it's quite likely that I could see more. I suppose if my engine is running clean and not coked up, which it is as I'm fastidious about that sort of thing, then it will already be producing it's power efficiently so the upgrade will possibly get me more than I am expecting.
  15. Just booked mine in with Celtic for 5th Feb. Will feed back the results of course
  16. Celtic Tuning do their own version of that. It's called the eMotion I think. It's on their website. A bit more expensive than having the technician to do it for you but the power gains are that bit more than the BluFin system. With the eMotion they send you the hand held unit and the programs are uploaded and downloaded in the same way via the OBD socket and you can then remove the upgrade and replace the original program at your leisure. I'm only plugging Celtic purely because I trust their statements on their website regarding the rolling Road tuning to develop the software and because of the sheer volume of glowing reports I've read about them.
  17. I hadn't heard of the BlueFin until now but after checking out the website it appeared quite good. However......... The power and torque increases they state for my X-Type 2.2D Sport fall short of what I have found at Celtic Tuning. I plan to have mine remapped by them in February and they quote power figures of 198bhp and 325lbft of torque which is quite a but more than the BlueFin. To add insult to injury, Celtic charge £295 and come to you! Check them out www.celtictuning.co.uk I've been in contact with them and I'm so far very impressed. Also, they come highly recommended on both the Jaguar forums and the Ford ones.
  18. One thing to check. Is there a microphone fitted above the driver area in the side of the interior light cluster? If not then you don't have bluetooth.
  19. My Jag is the climate model without the touchscreen and I had similar problems however mine now works perfectly. With mine I had toenter a code and then pair the phone. Try this, I copied it from the link I got the information for my non-touchscreen system and the bit below is the section for the touchscreen model. Vehicles with touch-screenFollow these steps to pair your phone with the vehicle:1. Switch the vehicle's ignition ON (position II).2. Press the Phone mode button, to the left of the touch-screen.3. Using the touch-screen keypad, enter the code '##3#*#', then press theSend/End button to the bottom right of the touch-screen.4. The message 'Discover Me' will be displayed, to confirm that the system isready to pair with a mobile phone.5. Switch on your mobile phone's Bluetooth connection, using the phone's menu. (See your phone's manual for more information).6. Select 'search for other Bluetooth devices' or 'Audio Accessories' from yourmobile phone's menu.7. Select 'Jaguar' in your phone's paired device list, in order to connect tothe vehicle's Bluetooth system.8. Enter the Passkeyon your mobile phone (the Passkey is 1313).9. Under certain circumstances, the message 'No BT Phone' may be displayedbriefly.10. After a short delay, the message 'Phone Connected' will confirm that thephone and vehicle are paired. Once a mobile phone is paired with the vehicle, the vehicle will look for this specific phone everytime the ignition isswitched ON.

  22. Forgot to say that the audio quality from my setup is superb. No difference between bluetooth audio and a CD and no interference at all from other transmissions
  23. I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 and it works flawlessly with the Jaguar bluetooth phone system in my 2005 2.2D. I don't have the touchscreen in mine, just the climate etc. I recently posted on the Lounge section of the site regarding bluetooth audio as I've just wired in a bluetooth system to my Jag which allows me to use my phone for both telephone audio and music audio completely wirelessly. Take a look here - http://www.jaguarownersclub.com/forums/topic/9377-bluetooth-audio-for-non-bluetooth-jags/
  24. Thought I would share my experience. My X-Type 2.2 has bluetooth for the phone but not for audio. As I wanted to play music from my phone in my car without wires, I researched a little and came up with this. http://www.isimplesolutions.com/product.aspx?zpid=533 You'll have to do some searching for these as they aren't that readily available. Got mine on eBay for £35. They wire into the radio system via the aerial socket and when activated, cut off the signal from the cars aerial and transfers the input from a phone or iPod though the unit and into the aerial socket. (You tune the radio into a fixed frequency). The bonus with this is that if you drive a lot, like I do, you never get cross interference from other radio transmissions as you do with the ones that plug into the cigarette socket and transmit over the airwaves. The bluetooth bit comes from a receiver I already had in the house. It's an 'Anycom Bar-10'. They are excellent but obsolete now but there are many others available on the net. Mine is 12 volt, so a simple connection to a switched 12v supply sorted that out. It plugs directly into the iSimple IS31 and when switched on via the ignition key, connects to my phone and plays bluetooth audio perfectly. The Jaguar bluetooth for the phone still works perfectly too as my phone can connect to 2 devices but you can still connect an iPod or similar to the bluetooth audio and a phone to the car and when the phone rings, the music stops as normal for the phone call. The only advantage to having the phone do both calls and audio instead of having two separate devices is that when the phone rings, the music pauses until the call ends then carries on from where it left off. It's a workaround for what would otherwise be an expensive upgrade and it works well. My phone is a Samsung Galaxy S3 and to get it to 'auto-connect' to the audio receiver I needed to download a free app called 'Bluetooth Auto Connect' - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.myklos.btautoconnect&hl=en_GB Once set up it connects automatically when I start the Jag and turns on the music player app automatically afterwards. Hope this helps someone as I trawled the net trying to find a 'Jaguar' solution to this but found this to be almost as good and much cheaper, and the whole set up took me an hour and a half to wire in with a soldering iron and a little patience.
  25. Get your rear wheel alignment checked. I've known the rumbling to be caused by tyres as result of the alignment being slightly off. It's fine when the tyres are new, but as they get toward the latter half of their life the rumbling starts. You might notice very slight 'feathering' of the edge of the tread across the tyre. I've also known it come from just the tyres alone. Especially if they are the new low profiles. The upshot is you may replace bearings and the problem still exist. If your tyres are low, try that first. You'll have to replace them soon anyway if they are
