  1. I have located some secondhand ones but my feeling is that it is a big risk as they too could be cracked and it seems there is no safe way to repair them. Prices seem high for them but marketplace driven i suppose. Thanks everyone for their suggestions and help,i will post back any update. Graham
  2. They have a waiting list of 30 people, very helpful though, they are trying to see if they can get them manufactured. Looks like i will hold off spending any money on the S Type until this gets resolved. Very disappointed. Graham
  3. Hi Carole, unfortunately they are for the LHD S Type. Many thanks for your suggestion. Graham
  4. Hi Russ, There website is showing out of stock unfortunately. Thank you for replying. Graham
  5. Thanks Kristian, but unfortunately i need the 1999-2002 pre facelift V8. There seems to be plenty of the later ones, but i have been informed by Jaguar there has been a problem with quality of the earlier ones. Thank you for taking the time to try and help. Graham
  6. Hi everyone, having just come back in to Jaguar S Type ownership my first frustrating experience has arisen. My 2002 model year V8 has a cracked expansion tank and none are available at the moment from anywhere, alledgely due to poor quality manufacture at JLR.There is no definite date for them to become available. Since this part is well known you would of thought that by now the quality should be right. Although my car is not overheating(yet) i feel disappointed that they are not available. Has anyone had any success in repairing them? Thanks everyone. Graham
  7. Thank you Peter. Yes you are perfectly correct, the S Type has the attraction. Graham
  8. Apologies for the long post. Purchased the car last Sunday having looked at it some 3 weeks ago but it didn't grab me at the time and i thought it was expensive. Had a further look around and realised if i could get it at the right price for me then i would take a chance. So went back and took it on a test drive for about 15 miles and it performed good enough so i enquired more about it to see if i could try and get the price reduced. I had already checked its MOT History and through out its life no corrosion issues had been flagged up,just the normal suspension issues that these cars do seem to suffer from. I found out that the car had not been moved since November 2017 until it went for its MOT at the End of January 2018,then parked up again. There were some advisories on the MOT for suspension bushes and drop links,it initially failed on the washer pump not working so a new one was installed. Secondly and i know people will shudder at this but the service and handbooks had been lost so initially no history. So i felt i was in a position to bargain and after a friendly negotiation we agreed on a price if they would deliver it,job done. So the car itself: 29/01/2002 4.0 V8 Dark Blue 86202miles.Electric Sunroof. So the recommissioning starts slowly, engine fairly clear and not smelly,so i have just started the car and let it run for 20 mins a day to gradually bring her back to life. Because it had not been used everything needed lubricating and is now starting to work, slowly. Gearbox changes nicely(will change the oil),Engine appears to run smoothly(no clanking from the tensioner/Chains),a job to be done to upgrade to the latest. The heating/cooling system wasn't responding to the settings i was doing, just blowing out cold air,and i thought the heater valve had stuck, but luckily today when starting her up and moving the settings again it has now started to function. There does not seem to be any body rot just the normal dings and scratches and i will attempt to improve this. Interior has stood up well with no holes or rips in the leather, just a little wear on the drivers bolster. Over this weekend i hope to get to know the car better and plan my improvements. Apologies for the long post. Graham
  9. After being Jaguar less for a couple of years i have now purchased a 2002 V8,always wanted one. I hope to be able to meet old and new friends at meets in the near future. Graham
  10. I may not buy another Jag......but the ride is so good :)
  11. Mongoose is the cable part of the Jaguar Diagnostics System
  12. Update. Runs smooth as silk now :D
  13. While out yesterday i started to get the 'Lurch' symptoms as i had experienced on my previous s type, but this time not as bad but i thought i would sort it before it got worse. So i plugged in my Mongoose and carried the reflash which takes around 30 mins. I didn't have time to road test and put it through its learning mode only a quick drive around the block. I hope to give it a road test today. When carrying out this reset its a bit daunting seeing all the flashing warning lights and your gauges resetting but i knew what to expect this time. I am still disappointed with jaguar on such a major component that this problem occurs. Graham
  14. Fitted CDC in my S-Type today, had to enable the cdc for the car's system to recognise it via my Mongoose cable.A satisfactory outcome and very happy.I am even happier since it cost under £30 off the bay included cassette and free shipping. :D
  15. Hi, if you will be removing the manifold it might be worth changing all the plugs their and testing the coils as i think this is a time consuming job and would be worth carrying out all the maintenance so that it does not need removing again. If it was me then i would replace the battery first, reset the fault codes and take it from there. Are you able to reset the fault codes with the code reader yoy have. I am not completely sure but you may possibly need the Jaguar Software to do this. But as always try the less expensive route first.......hope it works out for you. Graham
  16. These cars need a tip top battery,so my first investigation would be to make sure the battery was perfect. It may seem daft but with a problem battery all sorts of codes and warning lights seem to show on the S-type. Also if you can reset the fault codes. Best Regards Graham
  17. Simon had the car not been used for a while, can you clear the fault codes?
  18. I would be up for it. :) .
  19. Paul, i suppose if everything isworking ok then maybe leave things as they are. Before i did any updates on mine i had a look through all the menus before actioning anything just to get a feel for what it could do. It was interesting to see the previous alerts etc. When i was feeling brave i took the plunge and it worked for me,i understood the risks. Graham
  20. Paul, i would suggest not connecting to the internet. There are lots of posts on may forums with regards to using the software. You may be lucky and it works first time but it took me and my techie friend a couple of months to sort out problems with a load file,tabman.exe.It turned out that we did not have enough RAM on the laptop we were using,it needs to be at 1.2gb as a minimum. Mine works on a stand alone laptop with only xp pro running, nothing else or the software will not function,in my experience anyway. It may sound daunting but once working it can be so worthwhile if you just take your time and initially lots of patience will potentially save you lots of money in the long run. I also reset my airbag warning lights and safety belt modules after a battery discharge. Just thought you will need to have your laptop connected to the mains power as the gearbox reset takes a good 30 mins, with lots of dashboard flashing lights. Hope this helps. Graham
  21. Phil it is a clone. Graham
  22. Hi Phil, i had this on my previous 2004 s-type,the cure was to connect my mongoose cable, with the jaguar software on my laptop to the car and perform a software update to the gearbox. I must admit i was very nervous having not done this before but it cured the lurch problem. Graham
  23. Well picked up my s-type yesterday afternoon and realised just what i had been missing,so comfortable and effortless driving,i just sank into those oh so comfortable seats. :) . Graham
  24. Hi Josh, you may have had this fixed but i had the same problem on a previous s-type i had. The amount of times it flashes helps to diagnose what it could be. Hopefully its a loose connection, mine wasn't and i had to connect mine to my laptop to the car and reset the faulty light via the Jaguar software,as something had caused the module to malfunction. Graham
  25. Hi Everyone, well i have done it.....back in Jaguar Ownership. Purchased today a 2005 Jaguar S-Type 3ltr se Auto with 49k miles on the clock, one owner vehicle. I pick the car up on Friday afternoon, looking forward to it. Looking forward to meeting you all at the 'get togethers' soon. Graham
