  1. Hi David. It's parts like the air vent that you would never think would give you a problem, that's a good cheap fix and thanks for sharing with us. Regards Tom.
  2. Hi Jim. Are you not going to give us some idea where you got to on your trip ( ie distilleries, lochs and glens )where i am we have Belhaven Best Brewery) and spoiling the landscape Torness Power Station, Cement Work's and of course the wind turbines in the Lammermuir Hills. Regards Tom.
  3. Hi Paul. You didn't say what gearbox you have (auto or manual) i have the 6 speed Auto Sovereign and really like it,the most important thing is regular servicing and only use Genuine jaguar diesel & oil filters as some members have had problems with aftermarket filters. Regards Tom.
  4. Hi Paul. Welcome to the Club. There are a lot of XF' s about and seem to be a good car to own and drive compared to the competition. Regards Tom.
  5. Hi Paul. Sorry to hear about your x Type getting hit, the young ones don't seem to care these days if they're not on there phone they're rushing from a to b and not interested in what's going on in there vicinity.Hope everything works out for you and by the way Welcome to the Club. Regards Tom.
  6. Welcome to the Club The X Type is a great car and one that you can do quite a few Mods on.
  7. Well done it looks great, I would like to do the same but don't have a drive or garage to do the work and think i would have some complaints if i did the work on the road. What paint did you use and have you an idea how long the work had taken.
  8. I have asked members on other Forums to let us know what was needed to get there car back on the Road after being given advice, but they don't seem to care.
  9. Hi Walt Good to see you have got the Auto Gearbox Fluid changed and a Software update, did you ask for a Software update and could you enlightening us with what was updated it might be of interest to some Members. Regards Tom.
  10. Hi Peter It was when i had the Auto Gearbox fluid changed and when Mackie's took the car for a test drive they said there was a noise at the rear and could be a bearing or tyres, I thought it couldn't be a bearing as the Car had only done just over 20,000 miles so about 6 months after this i had the car fully loaded with 5 people on board going to a wedding and noticed that the noise had disappeared so that decided me to renew the tyres and find the Goodyear handle really well. Regards Tom
  11. Replaced my Pirellis with Goodyear Asymmetric, the new tyres are great .
  12. Well it looks like jaguar still haven't got it right , i read somewhere about Dr Spieth ripping the X Type apart . But i don't see him commenting on the New XE, as i am led to believe that when both cars were launched they sold more X Type,s than XE' s. Regards Tom
  13. Yes i would change the Gearbox Fluid, when i got mine changed( July 2014 miles 20,291) i was told to change the Fluid every 4 to 5 years regardless of miles done per year. As there are paper discs in the Gearbox and they could be affected by condensation. With the Asin Warner Gearbox only the Fluid can be changed, as the Filter is built into the Gearbox and it can only be changed if the Gearbox is stripped down for repair. I think the Fluid as seen on the internet has the number AW 21. Regards Tom.
  14. If you get an x type with a DPF, you have to use a Low Ash C1 Oil ( Ford jaguar WSS-M2C 934-B) i use Shell Helix Ultra AFL 5/30 C1 with the 934-B number and fill up with 5.5 litres of Oil instead of 6 litres and use Genuine Jaguar Filters and Check the Oil Level frequently if you do a lot of short journeys, and if you do take it for a good run once engine is at running tempture (ie 30 mins at above 50 mph about every 2 or 3 weeks) and Diesels are ment to be Driven don't keep driving with the Revs below 2000 as some say give it an Italian Tuning. And these engines have a Timing Chain and not a Timing Belt which is a good. I've had mine for 3 years now with the DPF and never have had a warning light come on yet touch wood. They're great car's and go for the 2.2 litre. Regards Tom
  15. If you can get the Vin Number and check it out and you will find out what extras have been added to the Car when New, but be careful as some x type's were Registered wrongly either by Jaguar or the DVLA. As some Models were sold as Sovereign but were Actually SE Models, I'm on my third x type the first was a 2005 model 2-0 litre diesel se which has a 5 Speed Gearbox in 4years only needed to replace a split turbo hose, then bought a 2008 2-2litre S ( basic model ) with the 6 Speed Auto Gearbox first car with an Auto I had driven and really enjoyed the 2-2 engine with the Auto Gearbox had it for 2years , sold it thinking I would wait for the XE. But being without a car for 6 weeks I decided I would need to get another car had a test drive in a bmw 3 series, audi a4, Mondeo, and a focus a didn't like any of them, so bought a 2009 x type 2-2 auto sovereign with 12,300 miles. There are plenty of x type's for sale and when you buy one change all filters and engine oil and then you will be satisfied with the condition of the engine, i prefer the 2-2litre with the Auto Gearbox. Regards Tom.
  16. Hi Ray

About changing your wheels, i would try out your 16 inch wheels before selling your 17 inch wheels in case you don't like the 16 inch wheels . The 17 inch wheels are Barbados and they are in short supply second-hand, somebody on the internet was selling one for £199.99 + postage i don't know if he'll get that price but these 5 spoke alloys are scarce.

    Regards Tom.

      rht54

Thanks for that Tom , I have bought a set of 16" wheels and tires which should be here in a couple of days ....

  17. Hi Ray The x type doesn't have auto folding mirrors, i have had Auto Folding Mirrors on Double Locking fitted to mine (i bought a unit a member on another Forum makes) with Memory Seats it is fitted under the Drivers Seat otherwise it is fitted behind the Glove Box . As for Day Driving Lights(i think these were only fitted to cars in Certain Countries and it was Dipped Headlights that were used ?) some members of x type's have turned there Fog Lights into Day Driving Lights ) Adamesh have replacement combined Fog and Driving Lights i think they cost about £ 250. My own x type is a sovereign 2-2 auto with Memory Seats. Regards Tom.
  18. Hi Roger The x type needs a good Battery, after starting the Engine make sure that the Battery gets fully Charged before switching the Engine Off. Regards Tom.
  19. Hi Paul Good to here everything is sorted out ,the only thing you'll need to watch out for is the EGR Valve getting gummed up some members clean the valve and manifold and then fit a Blanking Plate with a 8 or 10 mm Hole in it to the EGR VALVE, i haven't done this to my x type as they say it can't be done to an Auto. Diesels are ment to be Driven and get the needle on the Rev Counter above 2.500 revs don't always keep it under 2.000 revs as some say give it an Italian Tuning now and again. Regards Tom
  20. Hi Paul Just found this thread, i have not had any problems so far just wondering if you got your problem sorted out . I don't know if you have an Auto with the Diesel Particulate Filter as when changing the Engine Oil we only put in about 5·5 litres of Oil because if the Regeneration of the DPFilter Doesn't fully Finnish a Regen Diesel Fuel can Enter the Sump forcing up the Oil Level which can cause Problems and they don't like a lot of short journeys. Regards Tom
  21. Hi Scott If it was myself thinking about this, i would do both and using a Genuine Jaguar Kit for the Pulley and tensioner, my x type has only done 28,575 miles so i don't think I will need these for a while yet . But have been thinking about buying these for future use but don't know if the Belt would deteriorate while in storage as the Prices seem to be increasing every time you look on the Web Pages. Regards Tom
  22. Hello Paul Welcome to the Club, we'd like some more information about your Car and some photos if you can. Regards Tom
  23. Hello Liz Welcome to the Club, they're a friendly lot on here and will try and help if you have any questions about your Jags we also like to see some photos of members cars. Regards Tom
  24. For a start you won't be able to Drain all off the Fluid out of the Gearbox, some members who change there Auto Gearboxes Drain what Fluid they can ( i suppose they check the quantity because all of the Fluid won't be Drained ) then they Top UP with new fluid with the same amount that was Drained. Then run the Car for so long , then repeat the process ( Drain as much as they can and then Top Up with new fluid ) i don't know how many times they change the Fluid but the idea is to try and change all off the Old Fluid. With a ZF gearbox seemingly you can remove the bottom (ie Sump ) and a Filter can be changed, but with an Asin Warner Gearbox you cannot change the Filter as this can only be done when the Gearbox is Dismantled for Repair. I would check out a Auto Transmissions Company and get a Quote for changing the Fluid. It's a Great Gearbox and I wouldn't want to compromise the workings of the Gearbox. That's why i got it changed by Mackies Auto Transmissions in Glasgow, there are also paper discs in the Gearbox which can be affected by condensation and i think the Fluid should be changed by Age and not mileage, Mackies suggested 3 to 5 years in between changes. For peace of mind i would get it changed by a Auto Transmissions Company, for the Asin Warner Gearbox i think it was £153 pounds for the ZF Gearbox i think it would have been nearly £300 pounds. Tom
  25. You surely have never checked your previous thread on this Forum, about what oils needed for an 08 x type.
