  1. Still loving the XF B) Had the speakers in the rear doors changed for Rockford Fosgate ones by a local Audio place as on of them was knackered and making some horrid noises
  2. Young drivers can tow, as long as the train weight does not exceed 3.5 tonnes and the trailer weight does not exceed the towing vehicle weight, this limits them to about 1.25 tonnes, which is a small caravan
  3. As a caravanner of 20+ years, its not very often that I am the cause of a hold-up, although I must say there are occassions when it does happen and it does upset me when I am holding up traffic. Such as yesterday morning returning from Norfolk to Esssex, the road was so udulating that it just was not feasible to travel at over 35mph with a caravan in tow, I did look for opportunities to pull over and let them pass but I never found a place. I blame Norfolk County Council as no sooner did we pass the "You are entering Suffolk" sign than the roads smoothed out and I could increase the speed. There are many occassions where a caravan is the biggest vehicle and therefore visibility past it is not possible and it may appear that the caravan is causing a hold-up, but you will often find some other slow moving vehicle such as a learner driver or a grandad with a flat cap or even a bicycle in front causing the hold-up. The once a year caravanners are a nightmare, because they are often innexperienced and often use poorly maintained caravans (and cars) and they go out and do long trips. Our caravan is used 20 to 25 times a year and I have been towing for over 20 years. The only near serious incident I have ever had was last summer on the M5, a combination of circumstances put me in the second lane downhill, trying to overtake a slow moving van, said van then started drifting across towards me, leaving me no choice but to move over towards lane 3. So I am in a vulnerable position, downhill at my max speed of 60mph and encroaching on lane 3, when an Audi Q7 came past in lane 3 at around 100mph, with the 40mph speed difference and small gap between us he set me into a big scarey snake, I kept my cool and managed to straighten it out. fyi I was pulling a 1640kg caravan with a 2200kg car, so well within weight margins. Apart from the fact that the Q7 was driving at illegal licence loosing speeds, if he had been more understanding of caravans he would have held back and let me get clear of the tw@t in the van. knightsmith, a hotel is out, they wont take my dog, and why would I want to own a £20k caravan of my own, designed for travelling, along with a suitable tow car, and then go and stay in someone elses caravan and pay a premium price for the privilege?
  4. Just up the road from me :)
  5. Hi Gary and welcome. Personally I would not consider one of the plug in chips, but I may consider a remap. I had a bad experience with a plug in chip. We only got our XF (3.0 Diesel) a couple of weeks ago, the previous car was an Audo TT 1.8 Turbo, we had that remapped and it absolutely transformed it :) We also have a Kia Sorento Diesel and that has been remapped and also showed significant improvement. The mapper who did our Sorento and TT says he has done quite a few 3.0 Diesel jags and they drive better afterwards, but I am reluctant, for starters we have a years Jaguar warranty on our car which I would not want to lose. The plug in boxes only intercept the pressure signal from the common rail and send an altered signal back to the ECU so that the ECU pumps the pressure up and runs the rail at a higher pressure. A remap can not only adjust that rail pressure, it can also adjust various other parameters, such as mixture ratio, timing and turbo pressure. This is done within the safe control of the ECU, With the plug in tuning boxes the ECU does not really know what is going on. It thinks its running x psi when in fact its running x + y psi, the ECU has no idea of that true pressure, effectively you have a clever computer controlling the engine and you send it misleading signals without actually knowing what the ECU will do with that information. Its like having a Woman you love and telling her lies, the outcome will be unpredictable. In my case it only caused the engine to cut out, the fact that I was fully loaded towing a caravan with two kids in the back doing 50mph on a motorway, with two lanes of slip road between me and the hard shoulder at the time made it a bit scarey.
  6. Sounds like a fuel pump problem
  7. Thanks for that Trevor.....I never thought to actually read the email
  8. Am I permitted to leave negative comments about such products?
  9. Getting hacked off with the amount of emails I get from this forum, can anyone tell me how to turn off email notifications please? I could change my email address to an invalid or unused one, or I could set up my email to send emails from here to spam, but then I would miss out on important updates.
  10. Nice looking car and I like the number plate :)
  11. Happy Birthday Peter :D :D :D
  12. Took the XF out for its first decent run (other than the 30 miles home from the dealer) probably did about 90 miles round trip, like Peter says it just gets better :)
  13. :D This sounds like a win-win situation.......everyone round to Peters for his birthday celebrations and we get to drive Jaguars to the Midlands :)
  14. .....we renewed our vows last year at 30 years of marriage, just a good excuse for a party :)
