  3. Hi Darryl It sounds to me that your battery is about to go --A Jaguar starts to shut things down to save the charge to start the engine ,so first thing I would do is to get it checked. I had a problem for a week with door lock and lights coming on at odd times then one morning no start ==Battery dead== Fitted new and everything perfect.?? Frank
  4. Hi Paul . A really nice looking X Type you have there. Your problem could be as easy as a plug or plugs breaking down and I think that and the fuel and air filters are the first things I would check.???? Frank
  5. Hi Paul . You didn't say if its a petrol or deisel .??? Frank

  7. Hi Rod wecome to the club ----You don't say if its petrol or diesel.?????? When you say over choking I take it to be petrol so first thing is to check air fillter and all pipes .??? Frank

  11. Hi Ron ---I'm sure you will find out that the twin cams are driven by a chain so not to worry. But you do have a -Drive Belt --that runs -= Generator Air-Con Power Stearing Pump. Best to check that from time to time .?? Frank
  12. Hi Graham welcome to the club- I would say that because of the knock +smoke when starting up after standing for a time . you have a injector thats leaking fuel when its at rest --so I would advise you to get it checked because the problem with it would do just as you say with everything .???? Frank
  13. When trying to start---Does it fire at all or just nothing???? --is there any smoke from the exhaust when its turning over ???? Is it getting any fuel at all to the injectors .??? ???-If it was over fueling on 2 there must be fuel + smoke .??? Frank
  14. You have not said what your problem is ---fuel pump not working etc--- is you fuel filter OK ??? here is a part of the manual that pehaps help'???? The fuel pump is located under the intake manifold and is driven by the timing chain at the front of the engine. The fuel filter is located at the top of the bulkheadon the righthand side of the vehicle. There is a fuel pressure sensor on top of the engine.??? I should imagin the fuse is to do with that .I will try and find out.??? Frank
  15. In my -Haynes Workshop Manual there's no reference of a fuel pump in the tank.????? Frank
  16. My first was a - 1949 Morris Minor -Convertible-I know she had a -918cc- side valve engine --she was 10 yr old when I bought it but in really good condition -60 mph top speed and about 40 mpg--wish I still had her .??? Frank

  19. I found this--------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Its a fiddely job and both C Pillar trims need removing. Behind the C Pillar trims are airbags and short plastic retaining clips which stop the C Pillar trims hitting anyone if the airbags go off. Extremely fiddly to refit as your working by feel and they are very short, they took the longest part of the time up in removing and refitting the parcel shelf trim when I had to fit a new buzzer when I had my 2002 3.0 X Type If I remember the rear seat back needs removing (if its not a folding one) If it is a folding back rest fold it forward and thers a tang to press to remove the bolsters to access the C Pillar trim ------------------------------------------------------------------- I am only guesing but are you trying to clean behind it --Flys etc . If so try this------ You could try gaffer taping a drinking straw to the end of the vacuum cleaner hose (i.e. all the air is pulled through the straw). That will be thin enough to get right to the back, and probably have enough suction to shift the most stubborn fly. Frank
  20. Sorry I thought you had a S Type .???? If its a X Type I--- "think"--not sure---- you have to replace the plastic adjusters as they are pre-set at a cost of about £25 you can get them from e-bay .??? Frank
  21. Hi Ray take a look here== http://www.justanswer.com/jaguar/4oxup-jaguar-s-type-adjust-headlights.html Frank
  22. I was really saying about whats in the papers today that they are thinking of a £10 tax for diesel cars to enter city centres .??? Frank
  23. With all the news at the moment about diesel engine cars going to be taxed more etc I think I would think before buying .???? Frank
  24. That little valve in the pump I'm talking about just stops the fuel from dropping back once your fuel pressure is back the engine will run no problem .??? I ask a fitter that I know he said---- It may be something as simple as moisture in the fuel or a problem with the fuel filter so I would recommend the fuel filter is changed now if there is any doubt its not been done for a while. ??? I suspect there may be a fuel pump problem, although it may just be a sensor which is cutting the fuel supply or not reading correctly such as a rail pressure sensor or return valve.????the fuel is being allowed to get air in it or is running back to the tank. We cannot rule out a sensor with this but its more likely to be on the fuel system, the fuel filter would be the first step. Frank
  25. I'm sorry to say I think you need a new or recon fuel pump if you have no leaks .???? because if it has a leak between the tank and the pump it will run back or there is a valve in the pump that holds the fuel from running back at fault .??? Frank
