  1. If I don't get a please or thank you I say "did your mother not teach you manners".
  2. I will never set foot in Halfords again Aubrey.
  3. I have one on my S Type, its the spring loaded one and the guy at the MOT station said as long as they are spring loaded there ok, but I don't know about the XK having pre drilled holes Graham
  4. I stopped using a garage because I never got a thank you, I went into Halfords for the last time last night because I asked where the cable ties were because I was in a rush to do a job before it got dark and just got a pointed finger and a grunt, anyway I never wanted to pay £ 4 quid for 8 ties when I can get 200 for that.
  5. Why are cars not fitted with a starting handle now ? , think of the problems it would solve with a auto car and a flat battery, but I think it would only be us old boys with the knack of using one it would benefit. ( starting a diesel elevator engine on a cold frost morning).
  6. Well 3 months ago I changed the rear wheel bearings on my 3ltr S Type, now one is groaning again, removed it and knocked it apart, seems their using water instead of grease to lube the bearing, Got another new one and knocked that apart and the bloke who packs them with grease is the same bloke who butter's the bread rolls in our fish and chip shop, new one now has grease in it.
  7. Well with modern vehicles if for a few seconds they get 11 volts instead od 13.8 the sensors throw their toys out, a good heavy duty battery is not that expensive and if it cures your problems its cheap, might just be a bad earth but I stand to be corrected, Old Richard might put me right. I just know a bad battery on a Range Rover will bring up suspension faults, immobiliser faults and gearbox faults.
  8. Don't know if I am to late for this thread but I would change the battery, I had a Range Rover and the battery tested ok, changed it and all my problems went.
  9. I think your right, I did return 2 but still have one so if anyone wants a belt for a X Type they can have it, I will go into Jaguar to ge one, it will be a better quality, 3 times i was given the wrong one and 3 times it said Stype on the ticket, I was lucky i did not just cut the old belt off
  10. Well like a idiot I tried Halfords then 2 company's on E Bay , I think I will have to go to Jaguar dealer and get one, but why the one I did get were to short.
  11. The belt that drive's the a/c water pume ect, are there 2 different ones that fit the 3tlr petrol s type, because i have brought two now and both are to short , I get told sorry sir there is only one belt that fits the S Type.
  12. I had a Range Rover before that but I got fed up with Land Rover reliability or lack of it.
  13. It had a 112000 miles on the clock when I brought it, they also put two rear tyres on it and a years MOT so I was happy, ( not like me to get a good deal).
  14. When I set eyes on mine I knew I had to have it and it was very cheap but outstanding condition, when I got the paperwork it said "sold as seen/ scrap, no warrenty , but took it for a test drive and engine and gearbox perfect so I thought I will take a chance, anyway got it home and it needed 3 wheel bearings, got those through work and done the job myself so I got a 2002 3tlr S Type in immaculate condition for £1200, ( Jag wanted over £1500 to do the work that's why she was scrap) I and the wife love it.
  15. The first time I hit the S button and put my foot down I was very surprised, well shocked how it gets away.
  16. I love my 3ltr S type, even more now i just put some grease in my prop centre bearing ( thinking i had a diff problem) and now she is silent .

    MPG

So would I be, that's very good, I find I am now trying to get as many mpg as I can and I have found that high speed cruising does not guzzle the fuel, no doubt sitting at a 100 mph would give the mpg a hammering.

    Servo

Thanks for that Frank, I am going to give it a good look over at the weekend, when I first get the car it had a air leak at the back of the engine, there was a split in a right angle pipe, but access there is a little difficult, maybe if I remove the panel ect below the windscreen might help a little, I did see a very small black pipe not connected to anything when I done the air leek so maybe it would be a good idea I find that again and see where it should go.

    Servo

Yes its not a problem really as I am a gentle breaker , I will put it on my jobs to do list.
  20. Well I have had my S Type nearly a year and I love it, runs like a dream but it has one little problem and its had it since I got it, and it if I hit the brake pedal hard, quickly it feels like I have no help from the servo, feels like I catch the servo asleep, wondering if other owners find this with their S types, if not I will be looking to change the servo, pipes ect are leak free.
  21. I went to Halfords one day in my 330 bhp Sierra Cosworth and a boy racer said " its only a Sierra, my dad had one and it was crap, he said a good Saxo would give it a run for its money.

    MPG

A big engine can be good on mpg if driven correctly , i done a run from Felixstowe with another one of our drivers to Scotland, he had a 430 bhp Volvo, I have a 520 bhp Volvo, i got one and a half mpg more than him, over a year that's a lot of saving, maybe paid for the bigger engine, if i use all that power it may be a different story.

    MPG

I am glad to hear someone else can get 42 mpg out of their jag because I can mine and when I have told anyone this I am told I am dreaming, if I set my cruise control at 56mph behind a truck, I do that ofter as I am a trucker and I am happy at 56 I can get more, I live out in the country and If I drive carefully I can average about 32 mpg.
  24. I went into Halfords to pick up a socket set I orderd, I went to the front till and gave them my reference number, I was told to go to the parts desk at the rear of the store, 20 minutes I stood there, then a lad came out from the back and I said I have come after my socket set, showed him my number, after 5 minutes looking I was told it was on the front desk, back I go and said Tin Tin back there said its here, eeerrrrr sorry mate , yea it is, you better keep it mate.
  25. A friend of mine has just brought a 2001 S Type, it has a radio and casset and a cd button on the radio but it has no cd changer in the boot, and I cannot find the cable for the changer anywhere, surely Jag would not put a cd radio in a car with no changer unless I am looking in the wrong place or someone has removed the change cable which I doupt very much. Thanks.
