  1. Ok you will have to let me know what you want for it, the part number is 2R8W4384BAGJS400015V1003. I have had 2 off e bay and both times they have sent me the Ford one.
  2. Sorry I am after a diff for a auto but thanks for the offer. Regards David.
  3. No there different.
  4. Sorry to post again so soon, could anyone tell me if the 2002 S Type auto diff is the same ratio as the manuel diff. Thanks in advance.
  5. This might be a stupid question but I will ask to save getting the wrong one and the hassel of sending it back, my 2002 S type 3 .0 has a noisy diff that is spoiling what would be a silent car, on E Bay I see there is two, up to 2002 and after 2002, what one do I need and is there a way of telling the difference between the two, some say this one will fit and some say this wont, should have brought a 2003 model.
  6. We had a good idea what the problem was before we looked at it, the injector return pipes get old and leak, so the pump loses fuel pressure, so you have to crank the engine over to pump up fuel pressure to start, very common problem, I had a P38 Range Rover diesel for 8 years, in the end I got so !Removed! tired of fixing something every other week, yes you need to be a grease monkey to work on them because there are so many easy cheap fixes on them the dealers don't want you to know. I have had my 2002 3.0 S Type now for 6 months and had no problem with it, feels very strange not having to get the tool box out every two weeks.
  7. Thought I would share this story, took my S Type for mot other day, I have it done at a 4x4 garage, while I was there a Range Rover diesel came in with starting problems, owner said he had been to 2 Land Rover dealers to be told it needed a new injector pump at well over a grand and a grand labour, my mate who done my mot got it in the workshop, while I was in the office paying he came in and said to the owner " I have found your problem mate" he said its your leek off pipes, about a tenner for the pipes and a half hour to fit them.
  8. Makes me mad when the garage says "it was ok when we left it" no it wasn't, its their excuse for putting it out in the yard and forgetting about it because they cant fix it, or can be botherd.
  9. Got it sorted now boys. :) :) Gadget off e bay.
  10. I don't think you can wire up the trailer lights in the normal way, ie splicing into the rear light wiring,
  11. I am thinking about fitting a tow bar to my S type but have been told the wiring cannot as normal, I have fitted many tow bars with no problem, what makes the S type different. Thank you.
  12. I have a 3 ltr S Type and if I put normal unleaded fuel in it , the engine management light comes on, I forget the code but its something to do with emissions, clear the fault and put the good stuff in it and its ok.
  13. I had a rumble with my S Type so I jacked the rear of the car up, started engine and put the car in drive then got underneath and put a screw driver on the diff to my ear then to each rear wheel bearings and it was a wheel bearing , I changed it without the use of a press.
  14. Ok I will have to do the same and see how it goes, 'im not to good at working out ltr's to mpg, I am still feet and inches, I think me and the wife are going to Great Yarmouth sometime this week to escape the family, I will have to fill up before and after the journey and let you know the figures, as I said I cant do the lte to mpg stuff.
  15. I will have to brim the tank and do my normal day to day running around and brim the tank again and work it out like that, as I have never took much notice of the short journey mpg. I done a long journey the other day and I could only get around 32, so you could say I get around a average of 33 on a long run, I think it depends on so much, quality of fuel ect
  16. I think around 22 ish Popeye , that's doing about 5 miles from town to town and not much street driving, I was surprised when I done my first motorway journey, not far I know, from Ely in Cambridgeshire to the 40's weekend in Chatham and got close to 36 mpg, but that was paying a lot of attention to the road and traffic to see what the old cat would do, think the next journey I will brim the tank before and after to get a more true reading, its a lot better on fuel than my diesel Range Rover was, I can tell that by my fuel bill.
  17. Very pleased with the car now, got the car at bargain price because of wheel bearings , and diff, Jag wanted over £1500 to fix it, I got the bearings through work for £180, done them myself, and £30 for diff oil, well happy, I must get some photo's up, 2002 3.0 S Type, 125000 miles and it looks like it just rolled out of the factory.
  18. A few of you may remember I had a noisey diff on my S Type, I thought I would change oil in it , so I put some Lucas sae 75/140 synthetic oil in it and about 300 miles later the diff is now silent. So if you have the same problem it may be worth a try, think it was about £30 for a couple of ltr's.
  19. And there I was thinking I was going to get some sensible remarks about my old diff , I still have a rattle from the passenger seat but I wont go into that.
  20. Update on my scraping noise lads, it was the diff, so I have changed all 4 wheel bearing's ( no press, just hammer and brute force) and now changed the diff, and at 80mph the girl is silent, what a joy to dive, well worth the sweat and tears.
  21. Yes I done a search on this topic and I see its a common problem, but as you say Peter its only about 30 seconds and its gone, so I will leave my spanners in the tool box.
  22. Now winter is setting in I have the problem of my S type windscreen steaming up as soon as I start the engine,It seams its a common problem on Jags and I have came across many fixes, but before I start pulling the car apart I thought I would ask if any of you had and fixed this problem, it only takes a minute to clear with the a/c on and its not using any water.
  23. I used to have a Range Rover and the wife and me went looking for a cheaper car to run, anyway we came across this lovely 2002 grey 3.0 S Type Jag, it was a bargain, infact it was a sold as seen with 123000 miles under its belt, you may think with those miles and that many owners it would be noting special, wrong, there is not a blemish on the paint work and inside its like new, but i did have to change 3 wheel bearings, fantastic car, and i don't have to fix anything every weekend like i did with the Range Rover
  24. I love my S Type, why did I not get one years ago instead od wasting my time and money on a Range Rover.
  25. Got it sorted now.
