  1. I need to replace the diff in my 2002 3ltr S Type, but I see there is a pre 2002 diff and a after 2002, on ebay, I take it I have to crawl under the car for the serial number.
  2. Ok , its the diff making my noise, never heard a diff make that noise before but there is always a first, so its another diff, change its oil and away we go.
  3. That's what I will do, its so annoying when you can find out whats making a noise.
  4. Yes Frank its one complete bearing, just brought the car a month ago, it has a scraping sound coming from the rear, so new pads and disc's , I had the left bearing pressed in at a garage for £60, I wasn't paying that so done it myself but what a job, and I still have the scraping noise so its got to be the diff,
  5. I have been doing a search to replace a rear wheel bearing on a s type, they say cant do it without a press. the local garage wanted £60 to push old out and new one in, cut a long story short, you can change one without a press but don't. my hammer arm is killing me.
  6. There is a whine and a rumble coming from the diff Kenny so I will take a closer look at that, il'l give the scraping a miss until I get the diff sorted, we have a rebuilt diff in the workshop so its not going to cost me anything.
  7. No there were no wear shims, I had it up on the ramp again today and I am getting a rumble from the diff , so I think I will replace that, I got the car for a very good price so I don't mind spending a pound or two on it..
  8. I had the noise before I changed the pads and disc's Trevor, but as you say it might be the new pads and discs bedding in making the same noise, think, i think i will hang on a couple of hundred miles and see if the noise stops, you can only just hear it in the car but its annoying i don't know what it is.
  9. I have just brought a lovely S type Jag , 2002 in fantastic condition, but I have a scraping noise from the rear , it sound just like a worn out brake pad on the disc, but I have just put new pads and disc's on the rear, and new wheel bearings on the back wheels.
  10. Just another quick question I am getting a noise like a worn out disc pad coming from the rear, pads are ok and I put new wheel bearings on the back this morning and I still have it, thought I would ask here if anyone has had the same noise, I am not as fit as I used to be so the less time I spend under the vehicle the better.
  11. That's what the wife said it was David, I now have to tell her she was right
  12. Thanks Peter, I should have known that after owning a Range Rover for 8 years, they will do some strange things if the battery is not 100 %, I have only owned it 2 weeks so still finding my way around it.
  13. I have just brought a 2002 S Type 3 ltr , but this is confusing me and maybe you can help, I start the car, drive off and after a few seconds the radio will go off and I get a beeb from the dash board then the radio comes back on , other that that everything is fine.
  14. This was done while the last owner had it, I do all my servicing myself.
  15. Well the Jaguar dealer that serviced the car I just brought had put two of the four rear disc pads in the wrong way round.
