  1. Never had an S - Type Paul so cannot help with removing the covers sorry except for the fact that I'm pretty sure you can download the vehicles workshop manual which may assist you. Yes it would make sense to me with mechanical moving parts seizing up especially if the car is normally parked in the elements. Personally I would use WD40 to get them working but onc working I would use a silicone greece to keep them lubricated and protect them from moisture ingress.
  2. In the first instance I would check power on each mirror to include from the fuse (I would suspect each would be fused individually) and the relay/relays. If all is found to be OK then it is likely to be mechanical whereupon a strip down would be required however, the big if. Its unlikely that both mirrors would have encountered mechanical failure I would suggest it would be the same source of electrical failure along the line not forgetting the switch. I have electrical motorised mirrors in my CLK and I by-passed the switches by installing a relay so that when the ignition if off, the mirrors fold to the closed position. You need a 12V relay with 2 No. Normally Open Contacts whereupon when you turn the ignition on power is applied to the relay closing the contacts and sending power to each mirror. When you turn the ignition off then power drops off the mirrors and they close. I cannot understand why car manufacturers fit electrically operated mirrors whereupon you are required to fold the mirrors in before switching the ignition off, I always forgot which is why I decided on the above modification.
  3. Jeremy heard somebody had dropped out of the band so enquired about the job being out of work.

  4. Hi Paul, do not have S-Type however my XKR came with an from the Arc cassette head unit and CD changer mounted in the Boot. There was not even the option of a usb port for plugging in an iPod. Therefore, I decided to change the head unit for something more modern playing mp3, wav files etc and a usb socket for the iPod
  5. Hi Alan, welcome to the Jaguar Owners Club. If you have any problems then you can be sure someone within the club have encountered the same before you therefore, just ask the question/queries
  6. Looks like the club was formed for people with high performance cars; https://www.facebook.com/Midnight44Club/info?tab=page_info
  7. Hi Darryl, being an electrical engineer I would normally stress that 80/90 per cent of electrical faults on DC circuitry would be down to the earthing although having read through the posts, I agree with Frank on this one. Locate the relay and ensure its changing over when voltage is applied to the coil.
  8. Preferential choice I like Bosch Batteries then again thats my choice.
  9. Hi David, looking at your post you are either up very late or so early. Nevertheless, welcome to The Jaguar Owners Club, you will find a good bunch of like minded fellows on here willing to answer any queries that you may encounter
  10. It would be very unusual for both fuses to have blown, I would suspect relay. If there is one that you can swap to check then I suggest you do so.
  11. Baer, Stoptech or EBC are well known brands in replacement discs alongside the vastly more expensive Brembo of course. I've used EBC in the past and found them satisfactory albeit when open to the elements surface rust likes to adhere itself to them then again, that would probably happen to any disc.
  12. Thankfully no John, I have not had the displeasure of looking at a dead/seized engine in my XKR albeit I have had such problems in the past with a different manufacturer. I would have thought the XKR engine is not specific to the model therefore, can be found amongst other models. Years ago there used to be a company named Heathrow Engines, I don't know if they are still around but they had a wide variety of reconditioned engines. Just done a very quick search on google; I found something on Heathrow Engines but that was a rogue traders report nevertheless, I did find the following links; http://engineengineering.co.uk/start/reconditioned-engines-rebuilt:298/?gclid=CKrw6_WzvMQCFejJtAodNg4AhA or http://www.nationalenginecentre.co.uk/?utm_source=tp&utm_medium=ppc&utm_term=recon engine prices&utm_campaign=23001&utm_nooverride=1
  13. Paul, I would have thought a trip to the main dealers or a breakers yard. If the latter take fine fishing line with you to remove and obviously super glue to attach. The advantage however of purchasing at the dealer although at a greater cost will be; the badge will no doubt come as a complete unit so that you just line it up and adhere. Take the remaining letters off with fishing line. Good luck
  14. That full back should not be allowed to play for Wales again. I'm no Rugby player but having played football all my life you would surely have put the Italian into touch by any foul methods rather than give those desperately needed points away.

  15. Agree with Peter on that score, you cannot open a new factory without fully trained workers never mind how much money is invested. Only time can produce the skills required.
  16. Let the photo go viral keep sharing, 3 points for every share :-)

  17. Not just beautiful, our daughter is also considerate, compassionate and intelligent having achieved the highest academic Diplomas in University with her phD. I love you Adele Mowat

  18. Easier tan trying to find 1 in the grass

  19. Beautiful looking car no doubt about it however, for the price tag I would opt else where.
  20. Clarkson's final ride from the BBC Studio's ;-) in Top Gear style before being signed up by another broadcasting company

  21. I have a Mercedes CLK 270 Cdi which I use for work and it returns me as much as 54 mpg driven carefully in the Welsh Valleys and that is up and down some big hills. I make sure its serviced regularly and ensure the oil is changed twice a year
  22. I think May looks much fresher albeit you can also see he obviously likes his food whilst Hammond, in fairness looks as if he keeps himself in tiptop condition
  23. I was shocked to find out that Clarkson is only 54 years old, when he talks about cars he had when a young man they would equal that of which I had and I'm 60 next birthday.
  24. Like the programme or loathe it, I offer my apologies due to the fact I like the show and find it very entertaining. What are we going to do without it? Yes there are other show like DIY SOS restoring cars or Quinton's feeble effort but nobody comes up to Clarkson, Hammond or Mays standard.
