  1. I think legally or not most would have purchased the plates in readiness for the returned documents Martin, I usually do when sending the application off to the DVLA. There are so many company's that will make them up for you under the pretence of show plates. The strange thing is whenever I am selling or trading in my car and transfer my personal plate KEN 33Y they always assign the original plate back so I've always kept them in readiness.
  2. Obviously down to the care, attention and experience of the mechanic Graham and not so much the deanship as such. Anyway problem resolved and piece of mind again.
  3. As for an oil and filter change personally I just wouldn't bother. National Tyres, Kwik Fit and the like will perform an oil and filter changer with recommended oils for a very reasonable price therefore, I would take it along to them. As for braes and the likes just use a garage you trust
  4. That is unusual Martin, I've done it many times and it normally comes back with you have until the 30th or 31st of nearest month end to affix the new registration to your vehicle. Hope I did not offend in my earlier comment
  5. If you read the documentation attached it would normally state that the new registration should be attached to the vehicle by a given date so the above with all due respect may be a little ambiguous
  6. Hi Daniel, if they have been fitted correctly and you have experience in fitting the lamps previously on more than a single occasion successfully then I would consider the purchase on the internet; Are the lamps of a good standard? Where were they manufactured etc? Maybe, if may be worth you checking if they are seated correctly
  7. Hello David and welcome aboard the good ship Jaguar, have fun and enjoy the experience. If you have any questions or queries then there are many members who are only to happy to lend their support and experience so just ask away.
  8. Peter suggested his S Type has a power supply in the centre console armrest. I do not know what type of power supply is within the console however, being an electrical engineer I would ensure each of the DVD players is suitably fused, that is if you have a power supply. It may be in the form of a cigarette lighter socket from which you can tap off but then most definetely fuse down to the recommended power supply fuse rating that your DVD manual should state
  9. Unlucky buddy, baskets
  10. Up until 1973, ALL motor vehicles in the U.K. had black and silver number plates. If the vehicle was registered before January 1st 1973, you are still entitled to fit black and silver number plates. If the vehicle was registered after January 1st 1973, it is an offence to fit black and silver number plates. There are still a few companies making such a plate mostly found on ebay. I have a personal registration and used a company found on ebay named Demon something or another who make a plate with embossed lettering / numbering which would look good on the black plates making them look more original You may find some here; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/230466254024?limghlpsr=true&hlpv=2&ops=true&viphx=1&hlpht=true&lpid=108&chn=ps&device=c&adtype=pla&crdt=0&ff3=1&ff11=ICEP3.0.0-L&ff12=67&ff13=80&ff14=108
  11. Who or what is stopping you? short little hop for you
  12. Got any more specifics names etc Peter? I know Nantgarw quite well but cannot think of any garages other than the likes of Evans Halshaw. Swansea, Neath or surrounding areas would be better for me
  13. Officially you would require the log book to obtain a new set of plates to establish proof of ownership etc. The DVLA will also supply you with a certificate to take along to the likes of Halfrauds to have them made however, we all know or are aware of certain companies advertising on ebay and the likes that will make your plates up under the pretence of show plates etc. Mine were made and delivered prior to receiving the documentation back.
  14. Nice one Trevor, would be good to know. I haven't found an independent Jaguar garage yet in South Wales. Last year I was working in Devon and found a fantastic Mercedes Indy that helped me out quite a bit even lending me a courtesy car whilst they attempted to resolve a problem that I had with the CLK. They were based in Tiverton and were all Mercedes trained technicians. I couldn't praise them enough and if I were in that neck of the woods I would have no hesitation in calling them to see if they would do a service on the XKR
  15. In that case then its a simple matter of visiting Halfrauds, ebay or the like and obtaining a new mirror which would normally come with an adhesive backing which in some cases sticks directly over the existing if not then, remove all broken glass and press firmly to the backplate which holds it. Halfrauds would normally offer a service in fitting it for you for a small fee in the same way the will fit a headlamp lamp etc. Actually, I used them on an headlamp and they were excellent in that in was on a C Class Merc and you had to take the grill out to get at the lamp. They done it in about 40mins whilst I was shopping elsewhere and only charged about £3 for the service
  16. National Tyres will do you a oil and filter change providing a very decent quality grade of oil at a very decent price.
  17. Adrian, being a Welshman I am familiar with Cheshire and the backdrops from which you can capture some fantastic photographs of your new E Type and is there a better car to have in the forefront of such backgrounds? I think not Please when you have some free time get out there on the hills with car and camera and load the images within our gallery of members cars. Welcome to the club, feel free to ask questions we all have them from time to time and retrospectively we will assist in giving answers where possible from time to time
  18. Not on a Jaguar but had a very similar problem on a Mercedes that had an all singing dancing electric mirror attached which another careless idiot destroyed. am not one for taking to a garage if I believe the job is within my capabilities and I found replacing the unit straight forward. Purchase of mirror luckily colour coded to that of mine, remove door panel, unplug electrical connector, undo three torque screw bolts followed by reverse procedure. It was as simple as that and took me about 60 - 90 minutes Cannot see why the Jaguar would be any different
  19. Wish you well in your project Stefan, shame you are restricted to within the urban surroundings of the M25 and not capturing the beautiful backdrops the car could be placed in. When I done a City & Guilds in photography some years ago I was taught that a photograph should capture more than the focal image in order that viewers would be looking throughout the photograph. I do understand your restrictions with travel costs being a student etc my daughter was a student for 8 years gaining a phD however nearby surrounding Countryside just outside that of the M25 Surrey, Hertfordshire, Bucks , Kent etc can offer some enchanting backdrops to your photography such as the following taken on the hillside of the Brecon Beacons. Obviously the car is not in your range of pre-1990's but the image may be food for thought.
  20. Complete the entitlement form as required, attach the necessary documentation from memory; registration document. MOT and return all to DVLA Registrations SA99 The full address and department will be within the V750 document. They quote 14days for it all to be processed however, I was one of the fortunate ones which was returned sooner.
  21. Always what they want buddy not what you want. Actually I actually seen a woman yesterday getting into an SLK with the registration W4 ANT it gave me a little chuckle
  22. Up early and browsing the web Trevor. Rather than that CLS63 albeit a nice car for someone else I think I would prefer to go for something like this as an alternative; http://www.autotrader.co.uk/used-cars/bentley/continental-gt/used-bentley-continental-gt-exeter-fpa-201410238439024?logcode=p Horses for courses
  23. I love AMG's I have had many however have stuck with SL55, SL500, SLK32 etc don't like that CLS at all although its a car my old lady quite likes. £44K though Trevor second hand. Personal opinion and mine only because I've driven my brothers F series S I would rather pay the extra (60K) for that super super car. Take her to see it
  24. Make an excuse and postpone their visit :D
