Hi Elizabeth and a warm welcome to THE JAGUAR OWNERS CLUB, any questions then don't hesitate to ask them here there will always be someone with an answer.
Firstly has you your 2001 model got the wiring loom and all necessary equipment to run the parking sensors or was it totally without which is why you bought the necessary from the scrapyard from a donor 2003 model.
Its an easy method to establish if a sensor is working or not, they work on a daisy chain, if one of the 4 is not working then all four will not work.
To establish if a sensor is not working simply get a competent person to sit in the driver side and switch the ignition on remembering to engage the handbrake whilst you place your year to the first sensor get them to select reverse the sensor should make a clicking sound if it does not then the sensor is defunct. Do this in turn to all four sensors to establish what is working or not. Replace with new sensrs and all should work if you have the necessary cables within the loom for the parking sensors
Hi Alex, you can upgrade the brakes quite reasonably with EBC Brakes. They offer a good range of Discs, vented, slotted, grooved etc along with callipers and pads.
I am doing the Top Gear Test Track in 2 weeks time. I also like the track days
Hi Steve, I would be more inclined to use winter tyres on the old wheels and purchase news wheels for the summer months to look after the wheels better if you have enough storage. Any old Town and Country tyres are suitable for winter motoring. A good choice of Jaguar wheels are with Coventry Wheels, I like the Hornet in particular however, everyone got their favourite
Sorry Diamantino, are you saying that you have bought a 2001 X Type along with a 2003 X Type that you wish to transfer the parking sensors from the 2003 on to the 2001?
Can you please give us a full explanation in order that we can assist you
Hello CBers,and a warm welcome to THE JAGUAR OWNERS CLUB. You will find a lot of information on here in regard to your model and if have have a question that as not yet been answered then there will be someone with an answer
Hi Brian, I have not got an X type to compare however, I have an XKR and the needle usually sits around half way and gets there quite quickly.
Are you getting any heat from your heaters? If not then due to the fact that the gauge is not getting to the centre I would suspect a thermos stuck open (common problem) to most cars. This keeps the water flowing around the cooling system preventing the engine from holding it and heating it up
Hi Brian, can you give any more information to work with. Not having the full information its difficult to make an accurate diagnosis it could be a number of things. On an older car I would have suggested the thermostat was stuck open therefore, not allowing the engine to heat the water fully
Chris, maybe the page following the attached link will answer all your questions;

Hi Stephen, I was under the impression that there would have at least been a key entry for such emergencies, my XKR has a boot key which is concealed within the Jaguar icon, I assumed the X Type not having owned or been involved with the model would have such an emergency entry whether it be by a concealed key lock or a opening lever within the car. If I sounded in any way rude to you then it was not mant to be and my apologies if it sounded so
I would disregard any comments by the so called Jag specialist regarding the wrong wheels. Does it come up with limp mode lighting when the car is stationary?
Both terminals require cleaning and I would also check the earthing point to chassis, current flows from positive to negative however electron flow on Direct Current flows from Negative to positive, for the earth strap to be glowing it sounds to me as if you have a floating negative (insecure connection to earth) either on the battery terminal or the main earthing point causing a resistance to the electron flow hence the heating up of the strap.
Hi Peter and welcome to 'THE JAGUAR OWNERS CLUB' my insurance on the XKR is £268.00 430bhp.
As Peter have explained it would not cost a fortune to sort the problems reversing sensors are easy however, it would be well worth you requesting the dealer sort them out, they can only say no and if so then you have a bargaining tool to drop the price. Good luck, let us know how you get on
