  1. Happy Birthday Dads XF Taxi!

  2. My XF has stop-start and for the 7 months I've had the car I've always used it. However, I wondered if there will be any long-term effects of using this on items like the turbo. Most of my driving is motorway miles of 150+ miles per journey or on the odd occasion, towing the caravan. Do any of you technical people out there have any views on this and has anyone had any problems so far caused by stop-start? Thanks
  3. I wouldn't worry Tony, sounds like too much fun to question it. Although my 2.2 doesn't have a dynamic mode I do have an 'S' mode on the gearbox which gives much the same effect as you describe although on a lesser engine and thus lesser power. It's my first Jag so I don't know if your's is correct or not but I can say I love my car, it's the smoothest thing I've owned and has all the power I need when needed. I've just had 4 Dunlop winter tyres fitted, I've also never tried winter rubber before but everyone I've spoken to who has used them think they are brilliant. I got them for £700 fitted at Kwik Fit buying them through their website. The local branch wanted upwards of a £1k. Enjoy, but as Peter advises, not too much in the winter. Phil
  4. You're never too old for a caravan Peter, not now with motor-movers and the like. Get yourself another while your wife's at a weak point ha ha. Failing that have you considered a small motorhome or a static? We did without a van for February this year and I had withdrawal symptoms! I'd find it very hard not to have something to escape to the country in.
  5. It's great that you're getting your wife into vans starting with the statics - move down gradually! Our van goes all over the UK, it especially likes 'down south' which is anywhere South of Blackpool really........but we do try and keep up the traffic, or at least not hold it up. I agree with some of the concerns of some members on this forum, I follow another forum regarding camping and some of the comments regarding possible tow weights are scary, some people believe if you stick to 40 - 50 mph it's both OK and you can virtually tow what you like. It's people like that that give caravans a bad name. Anyway, back to sorting out next year's adventures with the van, Devon here we come!!!
  6. I've also been towing for years and one of the reasons I got the Jag is because the Caravan Club had it as overall tow car of the year for a couple of years. I find it a fab car to tow with although my van is only approx 75% that of my car so I'm well within advised limits. We went to France in the summer and I got 29 mpg ave on a 2,000 mile trip with 3 adults and a dog. I was very pleased with that. My job takes me around the country so I tend to live in hotels during the week. I prefer the caravan is soooo much better. It gives us fresh air and freedom. If you haven't tried it then give it a go, you don't know what you're missing!
  7. Hi Paul, This is another forum newbie from Durham, I bought my first Jag in June this year. I've got a 2012 XF 2.2 in white. I've had a few Mercs and fancied a change but need something a little heavier for towing the caravan. I've been very pleased with it so far. We took it to France in the summer and it performed well. It's a lovely car and I can't believe how many people comment on it. Have fun with yours, I'm sure you'll be just as pleased as us. Phil
