Hi Joe, Try Barny Jones (Jaguar) Ltd. They are situated in Dippenhall, Farnham GU10 5DW They are independent Jaguar specialists and are very good. I have used them and found their work excellent and prices good. Best of luck, Nick

Hi Carole and Peter, When I went to work this morning, my DPF warning light had gone out, and stayed off all day. That was a relief. I think I'll start using Shell V Power Diesel the next time I fill up. I read up about it and it seems that all the nasties that largely block up the DPF have already been extracted, so the cleaner fuel leads to a cleaner DPF. If I get anymore DPF trouble after that, I might try one of the additives, just to see if it makes any difference. Many thanks, Nick
-
Thanks Carole for your advice. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with having the DPF unit cleaned out by a specialist, or any of the additives now available?
-
Hi All, The DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) warning light has just come on. The manual says, "The vehicle must then be driven for at least 20 minutes at a speed of more than 48 km/h (30 mph)". That seems a bit excessive. Is there any other (quicker) way to regenerate the DPF? Thanks, Nick
-
Thanks Ron. I'll see what happens and let you know. All the best, Nick

Thanks Carole and everybody else who has commented, I have replied to these so-called lawyers this morning and am not expecting a reply anytime soon. I've given them 7 days to settle, or I will take recovery action! I have taken out the name of the garage for the timebeing but I will reveal all at the right time, so that everyone can steer clear of them! All the best, Nick NB. legalsolutions4u are not registered with law society and according to them " All our advisors have previously practiced as solicitors" possibly indicating that they have been struck off in the past?

Thanks David. I signed no bill of sale on the purchase! But they actually agreed (by email) to the repair long before this 'legal agreement' was sent. On thinking more about it, are they actually trying to blackmail me by saying 'if you don't sign this agreement we will not pay you the amount owed'? It certainly seems that way.
-
Hi All, This may not be exactly relevant but it is connected to the recent S-Type I purchased. I'm hoping there might be some legal eagles that might be able to advise me. Soon after I bought the car, I noticed the air conditioning didn't work. The garage said for me to get it fixed locally and send them the bill. I did that and you can guess what happened next. They gave me the complete runaround with every excuse under the Sun why payment has been delayed (we are only talking about £149.00 here, not a king's ransom). Anyway, I now get a 'Settlement Agreement' from a legal company asking me to sign my statutory rights away before they will settle the £149.00. For those interested, here is the wording:- SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT It is hereby agreed between RM Garage (Preston) Ltd the Vendor (hereinafter referred to as RM) and Nick D the Purchaser (hereinafter referred to as ND) that in respect of the purchase of a Jaguar S Type hereinafter referred to as “the Vehicle” that a settlement has been reached and both parties are in agreement with. RM Recently sold the Vehicle to ND, prior to sale the Vehicle was subject to a pre-delivery inspection and was sold with a valid MOT certificate. Following purchase the Vehicle suffered from some mechanical and/or electrical issues. Both RM and ND have reached a settlement in which both parties agree to be bound. RM will pay the sum of £149 (one hundred and forty-nine pounds) to ND. The payment will be made by bank transfer to ND upon safe receipt of the signed settlement agreement. Both RM and ND agree the payment of £149 is in full and final settlement of all claims that ND may have against RM both now and in the future in relation to all matters and the matter will be deemed to be concluded. Both RM and ND agree that this agreement will remain confidential and will not be disclosed to any third parties. It is also agreed that neither RM or ND will report this matter on social media or leave any reviews on any website in relation to this matter. Signed……………………………………………………….. For and on behalf of RM Garage (Preston) Ltd Date…………………………………………………………………. Signed……………………………………………………………… Nick D Date………………………………………………………………... I would appreciate any opinions as the car is still under 6 months warranty (If I sign this I cannot make a claim in the future). Should I sign it, or send around the debt collectors????

Hi Steve, I'm glad someone else has had the same problem! I did do a bit of reading up on the matter and came up with the same suggestions, but nothing concrete. It's interesting to note that my previous S-Type, which I bought from new, used to do the same thing almost from day one. The dealer said they never heard of it and couldn't do anything unless they could repeat the fault. Needless to say, it didn't do it when in their hands (or that's what they told me). It's a hot day out there and, so far, no alarm. But I'll keep my ears open ;)
-
Hi Guys, Is it just me or do other S-type owners get the same problem? As soon as we get warm weather and the cabin heats up, the alarm can randomly go off even though the car is single locked. It happened with my last S-type and it's just happened with my latest S-type. Is there a solution, or is the alarm just too sensitive? Any suggestions?

Does that include home breakdowns and national recovery to a destination of your choice? -

Autoaid charge £79.00 as against Green Flag's £115.00 for the equivalent service. A £45 saving. So, not at all bad. Has anyone tried Emergency Assist Ltd. They are advertising the same recovery product from £35.00. Too good to be true? -

Hi Tom, have you actually used Auto Aid Breakdown? They certainly sound a much better bet. -
Thanks, I'll look into remapping (it's just finding someone local qualified to do it :)

Green Flag Recovery Price Rises

Hi Steve, how right you are. Loyalty counts for nothing these days. In fact, it's the loyal customers that pay for the new customer discounts! Btw I just bought a 2006 S-type Sport and I'm very happy with it. That's it in the picture. Not bad for my old car plus £2k! -
Thanks Joe. Interesting what you say about the ECU. I would be very interested in the responses. (Joe, I'm a great fan of the S-Type and I think it was a good buy - my old car plus £2k - can't say fairer than that ;)

When I first signed up with Green Flag in 2013 the cost was just a touch over £50 which was good value. Now the price has increased to £115.00! (And if you want to cancel, or leave Green Flag, they charge you an extra £10.00 'administration fee' for the please. Does anyone else find these massive increases unacceptable and are there any other recovery companies out there doing a better deal?

Thanks Joe, that did the job for the seats. Brilliant! Any ideas on the slight engine lag?
-
Hi All, So, I did get myself a newer car, a 2006 Sport Diesel Manual, and very nice it is too. Having had a 2 years older 3.0ltr Sport, there are a couple of differences that I was wondering about. 1) When the car engine is off, the front seat is in a withdrawn position, and rises up to the memory preset when the engine is started. Is there anyway to set the position of the seat to the memory reset permanently? 2) There is a slight engine lag when going up through gears, but I expect that's due to the twin-turbo. Thanks for any help, Nick

Good advice from both Joe and Russ, thanks. The leaks are very minimal and the MOT is next Thursday, so I might get away with it this time. Fingers crossed :)
-
I've got a small oil and water leak, do you know if these are a fail on the new MOT?
-
Thanks to everyone for your offerings, much appreciated. The MOT comes up next week and I think I'll make a final decision when I know the result. If it passes without too much to spend, I think I'll keep it for another year. With the new tougher MOT's coming in next month, I think most people with a 10+ year old car are going to be getting very worried.

Hi All, I've got a 2004 S-type Sport 3.0ltr Petrol, Manual, with all the extras and 50,000 on the clock. Trouble is repairs are starting to get more expensive and more regular. It's probably only worth around £1,000. A far cry on what I paid for it new :( I'd be interested in a few opinions as to what I should do now. I would like to stick with a jag if possible, maybe a different model. I would not want to spend more that £5,000 if at all possible. Thanks.

I see some members have bought a Solar Trickle Charger to boost battery performance. Would anyone like to share the models they bought, how much they cost and how good they were. Thanks.

Thanks Dan. Yes, all sorted now. I had to buy and fit a complete replacement tank, but that was relatively quick and easy. Nick
