Hi Chaps, I've just fitted a new expansion tank to an S-type 2004 and stupidly the retaining clip for the bottom hose slipped out of my hand. I've spent hours looking for it and now I've had to give up. Does anyone have a spare, new or used. Or is there a way around it. The Jaguar Part number is: XR849447 They only sell the complete hose system which works out at around £55.00 (a great deal to pay for a small clip!). I'm desperate now, as I know under pressure, the hose will blow off, so I can't use the car :( Any help/suggestions gratefully received. Cheers, Nick

Hi Russ, I found my leak was the top plastic hose connector. Apparently this is a common problem. The only way is to replace the whole expansion tank as it can't be fixed. At the moment I'm searching around to find out who stocks them and try and get a good price. Nick

Hi All, I've got a water leak on my 2004 S-Type and it appears to be coming from around the expansion tank gasket. Like most other folk here, I used to work on cars when I was younger, so I'm not totally green. But todays jags are a whole different ball game. So my question is this: Is this an easy job to do or one best left to the pros? If I can do it, are there any instructions on the net on how to do it. I've got most tools. <SOLVED> Just thought I'd let anyone interested that the problem is now solved. It was the ABS sensor in the front left wheel bearing. Luckily I managed to locate a brand new part on Ebay for £59.00, which was a much better deal than the £400.00 Jaguar wanted. If you are looking for the same part, drop me an email and I'll try and help.

Hi Frank, Yes, I'm sure you're right. I've ordered a front wheel bearing which includes the ABS sensor and a fair length of signal wire. Once fitted, if that doesn't do the job, I'll ask the engineers to test the rest of the wiring loom for connectivity. Fingers crossed :) Cheers, Nick

I've just had the front discs and pads replaced on my 2004 3ltr Sport. Just prior to that, the ABS warning lights started coming up permanently, along with the engine icon. The mechanics who replaced the discs and pads had a look at the wheel sensor to try and cure the warning lights but something strange happened. They would clear the warning on the front left wheel, then the warning on the right rear would come on. As soon as that one was cleared, the front warning would flash back up...and so on. They tested the sensors as best they could and found no fault. However, over the last few years, I have had the ABS warning come on from time to time. To clear it, all I had to do was put the front wheels on full right lock and when straightened, the warnings would all disappear. Could it be that the front ABS Speed Sensor (which is embedded in the wheel bearing hub) could be shorting out, thus making the whole ABS system unreliable? Or could their be other causes... Thanks for any help.

Thanks Andy. I followed your instructions and took the lamp out successfully. Unfortunately the idiots in the car spares shop gave me the 5v bulb instead of the correct 12v one, so I couldn't finish the job today. It'll have to wait until tomorrow now. Nick

I've contacted several local motor mechanics and they're all telling me they need a special (expensive) tool to install the electric handbrake pads. Don't know if that's true or not, maybe they don't want the job.

Ie no more paying for pads again" Hi Andrew, I got a quote from Halfords Auto Centre but it was incredibly expensive (£800 for all four wheels)! Does anyone know of a good Jaguar mechanic that could replace the complete front and back brake pads/shoes for me? I'm in Farnborough, Hants, GU14. Many thanks.

Maybe Halfords will do it for me, if I pay for the bulb :D
