handbrake not working dsc light on gearbox fault
Raistlin replied to jaybo's topic in Jaguar XF Club
If that was an S-Type I'd almost guarantee a weak, discharged battery. A lot of the electronics in our cars are voltage sensitive and even a slight voltage drop will cause then to shut down. Try charging your battery or fitting a known good battery. -
Before you buy a new CD changer Knut Are, try tapping the front of the changer just to the right of the jammed cassette gently with the handle of a screwdriver whilst repeatedly pushing the eject button. This usually manages to dislodge the CD cassette :)

Won't go to the Magistrates' court Peter. No insurance is now a fixed penalty :( Unless, of course, there are any other offences brought to light or the driver is a serial offender. I, for one, have ordered more than one deprivation order on cars, given the right encouragement ;)

My latest S-Type had a dreadfully worn and torn driver's side door seal and the hunt was on in local breakers yards to find an acceptable replacement. Unfortunately, all the cars I saw had the same sort of damage to the door seal. Flicking through the JEPC, I noticed that the same seal was shown for either side of the car. Went and got a perfect seal from the passenger side of the first scrap car I saw, in perfect condition and, best of all, fits my driver's side aperture perfectly :) So, if you need a replacement door seal, then either side of the car will do, bearing in mind that the driver's side always takes a much greater hammering than the other doors.

Based upon recent experience, you might find LED headlights better than xenon. In addition, standard headlight reflectors tend to disperse xenon bulb light in such a way as to cause dazzle, whereas LED bulbs seem to be eminently suited to standard reflectors. Just a thought Bill.

They are there to protect the integrity of the passenger compartment in a crash. This was an S-Type Picture supplied to me courtesy of The Jag Den.

DVLA versus disabled motorists
Raistlin replied to Raistlin's topic in Chit Chat - Non Jaguar Related
Thanks Ron :) Based upon my experience with Police officers in the local area specifically and also in general, I agree that they might well consider the bigger picture as it were. However, being a Magistrate, I don't want to flout the law and it grinds my gears that this state of affairs should make even the contemplation of doing so necessary. -
Thanks Joe. Something to consider next year. Can't this year as SWMBO has put her foot down and insisted upon a further year of enhanced Nectar points :)

Not only is there fairly reliable ( that is to say, NOT reported by the Guardian ;) ) news that the government is going to take away the zero rate of road tax for disabled drivers who use diesel cars. Here's another way in which disabled drivers get a kick in the teeth. I've just bought another car, in fact a petrol engined Jaguar to replace my diesel engined Jaguar to forestall the consequences of my first comment above. I can't tax it at disabled rate until I get a new Certificate of Entitlement from DWP, which I now have. I have elected not to trade in my present car but to sell it privately to a friend. Here's the rub. Being disabled I can't walk or catch a bus to the Post Office and I HAVE to go to the Post Office to obtain zero rate tax on my new car. So, to be within the law, I'll have to drive my present car to the Post Office to tax my new one. The trouble is, when I leave the Post Office, all legal obligations met, I can't drive my car home, to where my new car sits (which I can now drive) as the instant I tax the new car, the old car is neither taxed or SORNed and in doing so I'd be committing a criminal offence. It didn't help when the blockhead at DVLA told me that the only solution was to "Walk or catch a bus", after I'd explained my level of disability to him. THERE IS however, another solution, which is to tax my old car for a month for the 10 minute drive home. Now isn't that an enlightened and helpful attitude. Perhaps I should be an MP, then I could claim taxi fare there and back on my expenses. I'm rapidly developing the opinion that a great deal of "law" in this country these days is purely to gain, fiscally, from those of us who would generally consider ourselves to be law abiding motorists. To put this into context, a commercial entity, my insurers, allow me to drive either of the cars within the 24 hour period of the day of changeover."

You might want to consider the fight I had with Sainsburys insurance:- http://www.jaguarownersclub.com/forums/topic/15906-fight-to-the-death/?tab=comments#comment-50581 In my view your premium is way too high :(

Having changed my car, I've been sorting insurance. I've been with Sainsburys for years and usually get a good deal from them. As well as a change of car my policy is also up for renewal so I had them quote on the S-Type 3.0... £1860. To put that into context, this year's premium, albeit on the 2.7, was £399. I normally expect a little horse trading with Sainsburys underwriters but this time they basically said "Tough" and would not give ground at all. Having received a quote from Churchill for £440, I phoned Sainsburys this morning to give them the vehicle changeover date and at the same time I told them to cancel the policy when it runs out. The person I spoke to expressed surprise as it was clear that I had been a Sainsburys insurance customer for years. She said they could do "a little better" on their quote, and it changed from £1860 to £445. What a fight I had to get a realistic quote. I wasn't looking forward to telling SWMBO that she would have to forego her Nectar points ;)

The first thing, in my opinion, is the same regardless of which model you are looking at. SILLS. Ideally, remove the covers. If they are rotten you are looking at £800 for replacement. Further, if the sills are that bad, there will be rot in the floor as well.

First thing I'd think about is a frazzled battery. This is one of the commonest problems with S-Types. They throw up all sorts of random faults. Other than that, park brake module, actuator, sticky cables or faulty caliper. SDD (Jaguar diagnostics) might give you an indication.
-
No Joe. Didn't bother.

Motor replaced. Fault cleared :)

I feel ashamed to say that I THOUGHT it had sufficient water but that was not the case. Filling the bottle got everything working as it should :)
-
They are two apparently different circuits Steve, I find it difficult to believe that they both failed at the same time.
-
LOL. Yes :)
-
No, not what you think :) Neither the screenwasher pump nor the headlamp washer pump run on my car. I'm not keen on coincidences so was wondering whether there is anything common to both?

Never tried it, but if the loom is already in place, it should be possible.
-
Thanks Pete :)

Thanks both :)

I'm having a problem fathoming an odd behaviour on my driver's window in my new S-Type. Either up or down, it moves a few inches then stops, until the switch is pressed again. No creaks or groans and it moves quickly enough. The other three windows work fine. I've tried the re-calibration procedure but it doesn't help. Any ideas please?

Charles, The above information is purely for post face-lift S-Types. The x-type is completely different to the s-type and doesn't require anything more than a simple relay. I believe this is what you need:- Remote Powerfold on an X-Type.docx

The module in the boot is the phone module. The little black box on the end of the wire loom is the Bluetooth module Trevor. Remove the centre console pocket and you will see the Bluetooth loom connector below it on the driver's side. The module is fixed to the inside of the centr console with a piece of velcro. If you have the correct wiring loom in the car, that should solve your problem.
