  1. As far as I am aware, there isn't a "pro" version Jeff. No idea what they would be charging extra for. Either will do the job. You will need SDD / IDS diagnostic software. Version 1.45 is apparently provided with the hardware but, as I previously mentioned, not a good idea to use that. I can check when I get home and let you know for sure which version is best.
  2. Try Here :) Clearly, at that price you will be buying a Chinese manufactured clone. Having said that, I've been using the same item for several years now and it hasn't let me down. You need to be careful which version of the software you use though. After a certain version the software needs to "phone home" and you can't do a lot with it. I can't recall the exact version at the moment but will let you know if you decide to get a Mongoose. Further, I can provide you with the correct version if it doesn't come with your Mongoose, or, alternatively, it is readily available on the 'net. You will need a Windows XP laptop. You can use the software in a Windows XP image on a Windows 7 or 10 PC but it tends to be glacially slow. In addition, Windows XP laptops are very cheap on fleabay and I find it convenient to have a Jaguar specific laptop just for the diagnostics and all the other Jaguar specific software goodies that are available. You MUST disable any internet connection beofre you install the software though, regardless of version, or else it will report the serial number. I find the Mongoose an excellent item, providing you don't try to run before you can walk, as it were. Used incorrectly these things can brick your car.
  3. I believe your problem lies in the calibration of the steering lock. As you know, the steering lock is actually remote from the key and is operated by a solenoid. Steering lock calibration is generally knocked off kilter following a low battery voltage or, alternatively, by somebody playing with the diagnostics who doesn't know what they are doing, crashing out of the diagnostics rather than closing it down in good order. They have also been known to lose calibration for no discernible reason other than perversity. The calibration is a simple five minute task but unfortunately requires the SDD diagnostics and somebody who knows what they are doing. I believe your only option is to get a local indie or dealership to reset it for you. I suspect that a dealership wouldn't do the job in situ and you'd be required to have the car recovered to their premises. Maybe an indie would be more amenable to attempt the reset in situ. Dealerships usually charge 30 minutes labour for the reset using the diagnostics which would cost between £60 and £95, indy would charge less I guess. Testing with a generic OBD code checker such as those carried by AA and RAC patrols, will tell you only that there is a fault with the steering lock. Worst case scenario is that the steering lock module is U/S and will require a replacement. That will be several hundred pounds for the module if I recall the price correctly. The job, which includes reset of course, is reasonably straightforward and shouldn't cost more than 1 hour labour charge. Although, having said that, the steering lock assembly can sometimes be a devil to separate from the steering column assembly. Another method is to replace the whole steering column with a used part from a breakers which, as you might expect, obviates the need to remove the steering lock assembly although it is a much more involved job overall and still requires the use of SDD to link the steering lock module to the car's security system. From experience, for what it's worth, I've seen this fault several times now and each time it has merely required the reset. This is a good example of why people buy the diagnostics hardware and software. Dead simple and infinitely cheaper to solve the problem yourself rather than calling in the professionals. If I was closer I'd do the reset for you. However, maybe a JoC member who has the appropriate kit and ability might read this and be able to assist. I wish you luck and that the steering lock module merely requires a reset.
  4. The clone Mongoose can be picked up on fleabay for circa £75 Matt. The software is also readily available online or I can provide it. Check this video out to get an idea. The company also sells the Mongoose but they tend to be expensive. Video You'd need a Windows XP laptop or PC with a USB port ro you can use a Windows 7 or 10 PC but you need to open a virtual Windows XP session which can be painfully slow. Personally, I was quite happy to spend a few pounds on a relatively low specced laptop and run Windows XP as the OS.
  5. The calibration process is required on each door Matt. Having had another look at your video, it seems as if one shot opening and closing isn't enabled on that window for some reason. I think I'd need to see the car on diagnostics to be sure.
  6. I suspect the anti-trap hasn't been calibrated. This is a part of the post battery disconnection / re-connection process which is usually ignored. Try this:- Close the window fully. Press and hold the switch in the closed position for three seconds, or until you hear a slight click from the mechanism. Try the window again as it should now be calibrated. Welcome to the club BTW :)
  7. The root reason for this is that the rear light clusters on these cars are switched negatives within the rear electronics module. (Ask anybody who has had to wire up a tow-bar on an S-Type). The metalwork of the light cluster is therefore permanently live and any contact with the car's bodywork will likely blow a fuse. However, the interesting thing is that there are, in fact, two supplies to the cluster, which is why you were getting weird effects, owing to the unusual electrical paths formed in the cluster when one of the live supplies was missing. Once you've seen it, the symptoms you describe are a good diagnostic pointer to check both live supplies.
  8. Having observed this individual and based upon previous experience, a further disqualification will act as no deterrent at all. In fact, when this incident occurred, he was on bail for similar offences and was already disqualified.
  9. He took the case to trial which was yesterday. Found guilty on all counts, he was sentenced to 12 months custody and disqualified from driving form five years and until an extended test is passed.
  10. Now incorporated into the Battery Reset Document:- Battery reset.pdf
  11. I'm in Wolverhampton. The job should take one to two hours and would include installation of Bluetooth, Jaguar Voice, modification of the D2B fibre optics and any setting up required using the Jaguar diagnostics system. Denis and I don't charge for doing this sort of thing and wil source the parts for you. Bluetooth and Jaguar Voice, will, of course, integrate fully into the car's system, controllable from the touchscreen and steering wheel. If interested, PM me and we can sort out details :)
  12. Bit far to drive up here to have the job done. (I assume). If you feel capable, I can sort out the parts you need and send them to you.
  13. Where are you located?
  14. If you've got one large screen in the centre console you have the touchscreen, else, if you have two small screens, one above the other, you don't. The picture below shows the touchscreen :)
  15. Next to impossible to do so by disassembly. However, an aerosol spray of WD40 then light oil between the stanchion and the mirror head itself whilst operation the switch gets the lubricant where it is required :)
  16. As you surmise Tina, you need a completely separate line to use the in-car phone. If you have the touchscreen though, Jaguar's Bluetooth setup is easy to retro-fit. I can help you with that if required.
  17. D2S HID bulbs are easily changed and readily available on fleabay for example. Unfortunately, you'll need to remove the bumper to gain access to and remove the light fitting and do the change on a bench.
  18. Further information from Police today. The individual has been charged with varied offences and released on bail until an initial Court hearing on 30th of this month. I managed to glean that Friday's shenanigans took place whilst he was already on bail for similar offences. He told Police it wasn't his doing but what actually happened was that six cars had decided to hit his car one after the other. The seventh car he hit apparently as a result of one of the other cars hitting him.
  19. On Friday evening I was involved in a road traffic collision. Luckily, the car suffered only minor damage which my mate Denis tells me will mostly t-cut / polish out. What happened was that a clown decided that three lanes of traffic approaching a motorway roundabout were not sufficient so he tried to make his own in the process brushing against my car and then hitting another car as he cut across two lanes of traffic to make good his escape onto the M54. I was so shocked and it all happened so fast that the only identification i could make was a silver hatchback on an 08 plate. I didn't even phone the Police because I had no evidence to provide them with. However, this morning, I got a phone call from Midlands Central Traffic Police asking if I'd been in a RTC on Friday evening. Apparently, the idiot had hit a total of SEVEN cars and had been fully identified including registration number by four complainants and somebody had had the coolness of head to make a note of the registration numbers of the cars involved, hence my unexpected but welcome phone call this morning. Asked if I would be prepared to be a witness, I said "Yes, of course" When the officer began to explain the procedure I said I was a Magistrate so knew about giving evidence, I heard the officer, although he'd covered the microphone with his hand, say "Got the !Removed!. One of the guys he hit is a local Beak". Enquiries are ongoing but the Police are confident of making an arrest today :) "
  20. My pre-heater did the same and I had it cleaned out. Solved the problem :) Personally, I find them to be a very efficient way to get the engine up to temperature quickly in low ambient temperatures.
  21. Yes. Quite a few times :)
  22. Here are a couple of pictures. The first is a D2B connector, the second is a MOST connector.
  23. Disconnect one of your optical network connectors and take a photo and put it on this thread Mark. There are several of us who will be able to identify it for you :)
  24. XF models changed optical network from D2B to MOST around about 2009 so you'd need to check which you have first.
  25. ACMs come up on ebay quite frequently Richard. The important thing is making sure that the full kit is being offered. Takes about 30 minutes to fit. If you go this route and need any help just let me know :)
