  1. Can you pm me your address and phone number please Andrew?
  2. Hi Joe, Welcome the JoC. Your car looks terrific :) Leaper as well. Very nice. I've PMed you regarding your retro-fit questions. I'm surprised the "R" doesn't have the Bluetooth as standard though :(
  3. Shall we meet Andrew? Your place or mine... as they say :)
  4. Concur with you regarding F-Type Peter. Oddly enough XKR-S might tempt me as well
  5. Thanks Andrew :) Perhaps you'd care to have an initial appraisal of The Princess to see what might be done? Where in Salop are you? I'm in Wolverhampton.
  6. And you're not too far away from either :D Is my S-Type sufficiently non run of the mill Andrew?
  7. That car is dazzling Andrew. You wanna do mine? :)
  8. Maybe just turn the sat nav audio off for those occasions Mike?
  9. Probably more by luck than judgement that I didn't Tom
  10. Hi Simon, welcome to JoC. You have a nice car there. I was given the opportunity to drive an XKR-S the other day and that was quite an experience :D
  11. Welcome to the JoC Adam :) Sounds like a nice car you have there. The mirrors on my car are both non magnifying and as far as I'm aware that was standard, so I suspect that a previous owner may have fitted a self-adhesive replacement, possibly because the original was damaged. Why they would choose magnification is beyond me though, unless perhaps it was the only one available in Halfrauds
  12. The Princess had her transmission sump, filter and fluid replaced today and it certainly was worth the time and effort. She has done in excess of 135 000 miles but, as far as I was concerned, the transmission was faultless apart from occasionally seeming to slip, or take a while to match engine speed. Once or twice I've had the "gearbox fault" caption as well, when accelerating hard when the car was cold. Time will tell but I'm confident that has been sorted out. After the change, there is no longer any apparent slipping and, one thing which I was concerned about, which was the time delay between flooring the throttle from low speed and feeling the kick in the back, which I had assumed was down to the age of the engine, has now completely disappeared :D Clearly, the engine wasn't at fault but rather it was an insidious symptom of the transmission. 4.5 litres of black, burnt treacle was drained, and 6.75 litres of new fluid was added, along with a brand new sump and filter and gasket. There was no indication of leakage of transmission fluid but the original sump pan was certainly warped. The sump pan, fluid, filter & gasket set cost me £120 from a fleabay dealer and my mechanic charged me £40 to do the job, including checking the fluid level in the approved manner. Happy bunny :D I am now, even more than previously, sceptical of the "filled for life" philosophy, having seen how little fluid was recovered and the state of it. Instantaneous response is nice as well I am also expecting better fuel economy now that the engine doesn't over-rev but how much, or indeed, whether it will be measurable, remains to be seen.

  13. I installed mine myself with no problem Amal. I used a different method though, initially drilling a small pilot hole then using a tank cutter to make a perfectly round hole of exactly the right size in one go. You'll need to make a smaller hole for the locating peg as well, unless you decide to cut it off.
  14. Without evangelising, I have to say that I'm completely satisfied with the OEM satnav, allowing for the inevitable lack of recent data once the disk is a year or two out of date.
  15. Not one for superlatives but... A friend of mine invited me to his place for lunch today to ask my opinion on something, although he didn't elaborate. Not having seen him since we were in the Royal Air Force together, nonetheless we have maintained close contact. I arrived at his house in Luton and he asked me to venture an opinion on his new car, a Jaguar, because I seemed to be enthusiastic about the marque in general. Parked round the back of his house was indeed, a Jaguar. As the Marks and Sparks advert goes - not just any Jaguar. He's only gone and acquired an XKR-S :D I didn't expect that. Neither did I expect to be thrown the keys and told "Lunch will be in an hour". I've heard powerful car engines before but the sound of that car starting up with me in the pilot's seat raised the hairs on my neck and had a somewhat surprising effect lower down as well The beast is nothing short of feral. I have to say that I have never felt such power in a road-legal car before. I can only liken it to the acceleration of a Lightning down the runway. I was literally shaking when I returned to his house some 45 minutes later. I was also considering whether my boxers would stand the strain His mischievous grin reminded me of times past as I handed the keys back. Lunch was pleasant as well but, oddly enough, although an experience I will never forget, The princess welcomed me aboard as she always does for my drive home and she put a smile on my face just as she always does. I couldn't live with the XKR-S, she isn't a car for today's UK roads but... Thank you Nev, for allowing me to experience what must be automotive pornography.
  16. Problem solved. I mounted another laser marker on the inside of the garage "up and over" door such that, when the door is open, the sensor is sufficiently sensitive to detect the car some two metres before it reaches the threshold. The laser is aligned to run up the centre of the bonnet, from the leaper to the sensor just inside the windscreen, allowing a small amount of leeway for adjustment. The upshot of which is that I am now confident that my car is sufficiently well aligned to get through the entrance to the garage unscathed :)
  17. What is it that you find odd about the satnav Amal?
  18. Looks gorgeous Amal :D Who buys a Jaguar and cares about fuel?
  19. Welcome to the JoC Amal. NICE car :D I agree with Andy, the leaper is in the DNA of the S-Type. I am one of several who have done the mod. It is easy to do but I'd advise measuring before making the initial hole because the template on the underside isn't always precisely in the middle. This thread might help:- http://www.jaguarownersclub.com/forums/topic/11952-leaping-jaguar-bonnet-mascot/ You can also get stick on leapers which I understand work very well. Enjoy your car... and please let us all see some pictures.
  20. Hi Jackie. I've replied to your "new user" post which might be of interest in regards to this thread.
  21. Hi Jackie, Welcome to the JoC :) I'm not sure what you were considering as an upgrade? I did look briefly into installing a satnav from an XE but quickly decided that it wasn't the way I wanted to go. Very expensive, very time consuming and the end result would look anything but OEM, but that's just my view. I'd take a great deal of interest in any similar project though. We already know that the satnav DVD disk from the XE will not work in the S-Type and I'm not getting anywhere trying to merge the two disks to produce an S-Type disk with up to date maps... probably because my ability as a software engineer is zero Some have decided to break completely from the OEM system and fit a more modern equivalent from a third party manufacturer. Again, I'd certainly like to see the progress of such projects but at this stage, it's not for me as I like the integration of the OEM system between the audio, Jaguar Voice, Bluetooth and satnav. Even iPod is catered for if you fit the audio connectivity module, albeit that module costs as much a a reasonable third party head unit. If you do decide to go the third party route, please do keep us up to date. As I said, I like the present OEM system but one thing I've learnt over the years is.... NEVER say never As an afterthought, if I have misinterpreted your post above and you are actually thinking of retro-fitting the OEM touchscreen then, of course, that is eminently doable if somewhat involved. Even so, It will still have the 2012 disk limitation.
  22. You'll need the bluetooth module, telephone module and microphone John. You'll also need to modify the D2B fibre optic cable but that's easier than it sounds. Takes about 10 minutes. Have you got any modules in the boot on the left hand side? PM me your e-mail address and I'll send you the installation instructions regarding the retro-fit. Did you scan for a Bluetooth installation with your phone? I should give it a try just in case you have the older type of concealed microphone. Otherwise, if I recall correctly, I bought all the components required for £75 last time I did this retro-fit.
  23. There should be a microphone pod fitted to the headlining by the interior light console. If that isn't there then you don't have Bluetooth OR Jaguar Voice. If it is there, then use your phone to detect Bluetooth. If it sees a Bluetooth contact called "Jaguar", you have Bluetooth. Earlier models had the microphone hidden in the overhead console but yours should have the separate one. Do you have the Sat Nav display?
  24. Let me know if I can be of any help John.
  25. The OEM Bluetooth setup is easy to install as a retro-fit if you wanted to John.
