  1. Nigel. Sorry about that. I had the distinct impresion that you were in the West Midlands. OK. The loom is a relatively simple one, but probably quite a challenge for somebody who hasn't done it before. Ideally you'd be present when the loom is stripped from the donor car as it makes everything easy to understand. In basic terms, there are a bunch of connectors in the centre console which go to the head unit and the climate controller module. The rest of the loom runs through the car to the near-side rear of the boot area. I wouldn't neccesarily say that you'd need an auto electrician but I would recommend the assistance of somebody reasonably conversant with wiring looms. You will probably have to modify the fibre optic (D2B) part of the loom depending upon which retro-fits you are including but this is reasonably easy to do and if you get to that stage I have an illustrated how-to (not mine I hasten to add) which makes things perfectly clear. that's a brief but comprehensive reply I hope. I am happy to answer more specific questions as and when they arise.

  3. I think it might possibly have to do with the transmission Ian. Does the transmission sometimes seem slow to change or slip? Was the transmission cold?
  4. Yes it is Stan. That's why I am keen to extract the Navteq maps from the later DVDs in a way that the S-Type disks can be merged with. Unfortunately, it is beyond my ability so I'll have to rely on others to see if it is possible.

  6. Thanks Frank. I'm beginning to think that it will have to be another laser marker, possibly mounted centrally and angled so it hits the bonnet well before the car reaches the threshold of the garage. I could then aim to get the laser to hit the leaper and then track up the bonnet to hit the solar sensor. That would provide a centre-line to run up. Not sure yet. I'll need to buy another laser marker and test it.
  7. It's an "up and over" door George. When open sticks out about 1 metre from the garage front.
  8. It's not the distance that is the problem Peter. My laser markers take car of that. The problem is initially aligning the car, before entering the garage, so that the front wings do not touch the sides of the entrance.

As some of you may know, the S-Type Jaguar's bonnet drops away quite quickly towards the front and as a result, lining the car up between the vertical posts of my garage door is something of a nightmare, the garage doorway being scant inches wider than the car. Once inside the garage, no problem as my lasers act as a perfect guide to the final position of the car. So, what I'm looking for is a clever idea that I can use to centralize the car's nose with the garage door entrance prior to entering the garage. Any ideas please?
  10. Jon, My original disk works immediately when I load it. Well, within about 20 seconds. The 2015 disk is readable on a PC. Seems OK. Whatever you can find out would be great thanks :) Wondering whether the disk content can be merged with the data in my original disk.
  11. I'm just wondering now, whether the map data from the 2015 disk might be merged with the 2011 S-Type disk. I suppose I could compare the 2011 and 2006 disks I have and see what files were changed...

  13. Well, The answer to the question is most definitely NO. The disk sits in the drive and the display says "Reading DVD" Left it there for 10 minutes and it got no further. Anybody want a 2105 satnav map disk for XF and XE models?

  15. My front sensors work, as you say, when traffic is too close in front, but I've never had the rear ones operating unless in reverse gear.
  16. I had my trusted mechanic replace my disks and pads all round Ian. They were not OEM but work superbly well and the whole setup including fitting only came to £300. IIRC, the disks were in the region of £40 per corner just for the parts.

  18. I've never thought of that before John. It would be good to see what it looks like :) As Robin says, aerodynamically, it won't have any effect, regardless of the suggestion about increased stability in the link you provide but I can't really imagine what it might look like from a styling point of view and would like to see the effect.
  19. On further reflection, and a quick test. The Princess does in fact have bulb failure warning. I originally removed one of the secondary rear light bulbs but of course the brake light bulb also has a rear light filament so it didn't show up as a bulb failure. I just removed the brake light bulb and the failure showed up. I'm pleased about that as a car of this calibre should have had that sort of thing as standard, in my view :)

  25. We have a three piece bedroom fitting, you know, two wardrobes and a vanity unit which bolt together and take up the whole of one bedroom wall. It is now redundant and I was going to chop it up for firewood because I CBA selling it as it would need a van to shift it. They are not flat pack items. SWMBO suggested letting a local charity have the unit for their furniture shop in the City so she phoned them up and was told. "Well, we can agree in principle, but we'de have to send one of our inspectors out to examine it to ensure that it reaches our high standards" SWMBO and I were not impressed but as the unit is less than three years old she decided to go along with them. She was then told "If the items do not meet our exacting standards, we will have to charge you an administration fee of £25 towards the cost of the inpection". The phone went straight down. I'll chop the damned thing up for fire-wood. I'm not going to mention the charity name to save their blushes but I'd suggest that next time you want to donate to charity, you have your solicitor look over the "contract".
