  1. Damage or a modification Thomas? Pleased to hear you sorted it out :D
  2. If you get a torch and shine it down the inside of the grille along both sides, you will see a screw on both sides. These need unscrewing and it will lift out Thomas. Beware. They will almost certainly be corroded and extremely difficult to turn. In fact the whole stud might be extracted from the plastic of the grille as you turn it. Providing you go steady, unscrewing the whole stud is ok and can be reversed to re-fit the grille. You must be careful not to go too fast or overtighten as you will strip the threads in the plastic
  3. Yes. Thanks to Steve we have plenty
  4. Pleased to hear of the arrivals Peter.
  5. Well, I had planned to have The Princess in the bodyshop this week so she was at her best for the meet, but the sprayer has gone and injured himself. Damned irresponsible I call it Ah well. I'll have her under cover on Friday for a good clean and polish. Please ignore the stone chips on Saturday, she is now due in the bodyshop next Thursday :D Looking forward to meeting everybody and ogling some beautiful Jaguars.
  6. No worries Phil. I'll be happy to see any Jaguars :D
  7. The first long trip I've had in The Princess since we had her. 200+ miles in each direction Wolverhampton to South Devon. What a delight that was. She performed faultlessly and was such a relaxing drive that I got out of the driver's seat feeling as though I'd only driven 2 miles rather than 200+ At one point I have to shamefacedly admit that I inadvertently exceeded the speed limit somewhat during a spirited overtake. So much so that I thought the speedo needle must have fallen off, expecting it to be at or about 85 to 90 mph based upon the smoothness of ride and muted wind noise and not being there, found it somewhat further around the dial at 125 mph. Not a boy racer, you can imagine that I quickly rectified this offending behaviour, now fully aware of what this car can do. The long trip also allowed me to fine tune the sixteen way adjustable seat to a peak of comfort and support. The Princess has the standard audio system (at the moment, but that is due to change) rather than the premium setup but this proved perfectly adequate and allowed for full enjoyment of Mozart and Handel from the iPod thingy. She was in "S" mode all the time and still managed to return a creditable 40+ mpg overall for the round trip, including a good hour or so in the dreadful stop / start traffic on the A380. Next time it'll be the coast road via Shaldon, Babbacombe, Torquay and Paignton, the route we used, in reverse, on our way home, with perfectly free-flowing traffic, even through Preston. This is the car for me now for the foreseeable future I think :D Even more so as SWMBO has given it the official seal of approval :D
  8. Hi Nigel, Whether you go for an aftermarket head unit or go for the OEM touchscreen retro-fit is up to you. Both are eminently doable. Personally, I'd go for the retro-fit as I particularly like the way everything is so well integrated. In addition you also have the option of adding ipod / USB functionality into the OEM system if required. The touchscreen retro-fit is somewhat involved, although by no means difficult. Most components are obtainable reasonably easily. The only awkward bit is running the loom into your car. Once that is done the rest is a piece of cake :) You are in the West Mids so relatively close to me. By all means have a look at my setup (which includes iPod / USB) if you wish. Or turn up at Gydon for the Club meet next Saturday... better still :) If you go the OEM route I'll help in any way I can if you want.
  9. The problem is almost certainly due to the passenger position sensors which use the same sort of idea as the parking sensors Colin. Welcome to the club by the way
  10. I agree. I searched using Google but couldn't find where you meant Peter. A link would be ideal please mate.
  11. iIt certainly sounds like the aux heater Malcolm but I'd be concerned if it was running this time of the year unless you've had cold morning starts perhaps. If it continues, pull the fuse for the aux heater and see if that stops it.
  12. There are also some considerable changes to the wiring but that clearly isn't obvious from the outside.
  13. Assuming that you have powerfold mirrors installed, It's five wires within the driver's door Steve, but at present only applies to the post face-lift cars as there was a considerable change in certain parts of the car's wiring at that time. I daresay it could be worked out for earlier cars though :D
  14. Only my view based upon observations of course Mark. Anyway... at the very least... they sound good
  15. Back in the day, when I was trying to wring every ounce of power out of any given engine, it soon became obvious to me that air filters of this type were only giving significantly more power or economy as part of a whole raft of measures to improve the engine breathing. By itself, I'd say no. Sorry Mark, that's my observations.
  16. That option is switchable in the setup Garry.
  17. One of the things I like about the sat nav is the way it integrates with all of the audio visual toys, including Jaguar Voice Control, Bluetooth phone etc and also including mp3 and iPod with the appropriate fitment :) Plus it just looks so perfect in the car, in my view, without all the extra bits and pieces stuck all over as I've seen in some examples
  18. Andy, Steve, Jaguar dealerships have access to the overall Jaguar database going back a lot further than 12 years, luckily for us :D If you phone your local dealer and explain that you'd like a readout on your car's spec, they will usually send it to you by e-mail within a minute or two and it doesn't cost anything. I say this as it reflects exactly my experience and the experience of several friends. It is quite an interesting document when you see it. As to powerfolds, it is entirely possible that they could be fitted and inoperative. Mine was like that. I don't think they'd been used since day one and the pivot is prone to corrosion. All it takes is to pop the cover off and apply several sprays of WD40 initially at the same time operating the powerfold switch and with helpers gently pushing and pulling on the mirrors until they work loose. After they loosen up a little, change from WD40 to lithium based spray grease, continuing to work the mirrors until they move freely. I tend to give mine a little bit of lithium spray grease every month or so as preventative maintenance. In fact, at this stage you don't even need to remove the covers, just spraying the grease into the pivot and wipe off the excess. Of course, if you have powerfolds then the modification to make them extend and retract automatically when locking and unlocking the car will ensure they get plenty of exercise
  19. Hello Mark, welcome to the Jaguar Owner's Club :D I'm not going to get involved in the petrol versus diesel debate. My advice is simply to consider your situation and see if there are any big plusses for either. If not, then try driving both petrol and diesel cars to see what you prefer. The 4.2 supercharged V8, if that's your taste, is in supercar performance territory. I drove one and it scared the willies out of me However, don't expect 40 mpg. There is only one diesel engine in the range. It is a 2.7l V6 bi-turbo. DPF and cat problems are often raised but so far I think probably a little more exaggerated than they should be. One thing to watch for though is the upper exhaust flexi mounts which can and do crack. Standard repairs to these are to replace the whole thing for eye-watering amounts of money. There are cheaper ways to do it of course. I can't comment on the petrol engines because I own a diesel but I'm sure some of the petrol heads will advise you If you do want a diesel you'll be after a post face-lift car of 2004 and later. In addition, as you are keen on an auto, the later cars have the six speed transmission which I believe is superior to the earlier version. The sills on these cars are actually concealed under a fascia and the sills themselves can suffer horrendous rust whilst looking perfectly fine on the outside. I quick look underneath the car will give you a good indication as to their state. If you like toys, there are plenty out there with most of the options but it has been my experience so far that retro-fitting is quite easy on these cars, the parts being available quite cheaply. Most of the optional wiring looms are also in place as far as I've been able to determine which is a major bonus. As an inveterate retro-fitter, roger your plan to go for nav equipped car. Initial retro-fit of nav is one of the few that isn't particularly simple but, if nav is fitted, all the other audio visual toys are a doddle. Don't buy the first one you see though Mark. There are plenty about and if you decide on a certain spec all it takes is a little time before that spec appears,, although you may have to travel. There are some poorly looked after dogs out there though. So much so that my initial enthusiasm for buying an S Type was wiped out for a while until somebody took pity on me and allowed me to drive a well sorted beast. I would have to say that you are unlikely to get much of a warranty,, if any, at the price you are intending to pay but then again, warranties are not all they're cracked up to be. I didn't get a warranty with mine other than a "gentleman's agreement" but a thorough examination of the car convinced me she was worthy and I haven't had cause to regret my choice so far. I think it unlikely that you'll find a suitable car at a Jaguar dealership so Auto Trader is your friend :) What will pay enormous dividends is to nurture a relationship with a local Jaguar independent garage. Worth their weight in gold, reasonable prices, lots of specialist knowledge and access to the correct diagnostics. Maybe that will help to start with?
  20. But it's very easy to fit :D
  21. Time to firm up some information for the day :) As it stands at the moment, the following are intending to attend (as it were) :- Paul (Raistlin) S Type Peter (Old Peter) S Type Steve (pablojag1) XKR Stan. S Type Paul (Skelly) X Type john jackson s type tony jover michael patterson andy wolley x type spencer beeson xj40 +1 les aston +1 martyn webster +1 mark bailey +1 pete Mann +1 ? 2 Brian S Type Philip (numkelfutumch) +1 S Type Yuri +1 Skelly Virre X Type Martinkessy S Type jiejie321 m1ken Stanboy (S Type) Jimmy (X Type) Andy Knox. Dave (X Type) +1 or 2 Abbas [XJ] Haydn [Glyn] [[s Type] There will be space for others if you make a late decision :) All of the information about the museum can be gleaned from their web-site which has a link in the first post of this thread. Peter and I propose to be at the venue for 10:00 am and we are able to stay, if we wish, until 5:00 pm. The signage and reserved parking will be in place from 10:00 am. When you arrive and go to the pay point, please tell the person at the desk that you are a member of the JoC and be prepared to quote this reference:- 2176155, to enable you to claim the JoC discount price. I imagine a fair bit of the time will be spent ogling each other's cars but don't forget that there is a whole magnificent motoring museum to be seen as well. We propose a gathering of the clan at 12:00. This is intended to be outdoors with our cars but, in the event of actual or impending inclement weather, we will have made alternative arrangements. This will be decided by Peter and I before you arrive and we'll let you know when you see us. Peter has produced a program per car and these will be handed to you upon arrival as well. Your program will have a reference number on the cover. This will be of importance at the gathering because it will be your free entry into a raffle. The prizes (gizits) are not yet finalised and acknowledgement is given to those who have sponsored the meet. I will be bringing my Mongoose kit along in the hope of getting a little bit of hands on experience between myself and miken (Thomas). Anybody else is welcome to observe and, if you have any experience, to advise :D . Other than the gathering at 12:00 we have no formal arrangements planned as this is our first attempt at bringing members in this area together for a social event. What Peter and I do hope though, is that it will be a memorable event and the catalyst for others to try their hand at arranging similar. PLEASE, feel free to ask questions and offer advice. There is an eating place on the site which is perfectly acceptable but you might want to consider the possibility of a picnic. We would ask, please, that there is no mechanical work carried out on the cars. The reason for mentioning that is experience. I once attended a similar meeting for the Rover 75 / MGZT club at Chasewater and the management were distinctly unimpressed when several cars appeared to discard various parts of their structure including bumpers, brake disks etc. As an aside, if that sort of hands-on, work on cars with like minded souls appeals, I can probably arrange something of the sort along the lines of the Rover 75 MGZT Nano-meets. If anybody is interested I'll happily tell them what sort of thing goes on at such a meet. Not for this meet though... please Peter will be adding a further information post to this thread sometime just before the event to finalise any details. In the meantime, I'm really looking forward to putting faces to names :D To that end, it might be nice if you'd print out a sheet to be placed on the dashboard of your car giving details of who you are (forum username and real name maybe?) plus any other information you might think would be useful. For example details of the car, any modifications possibly? Anyway, that's a suggestion and is entirely up to you. Above all else, have a great time so that we want to do the same again :D
  22. My S Type is called "The Princess" for reasons which become self evident when you see the registration number. That is to say HER Royal Highness
  23. I couldn't possibly see the resemblance Peter
  24. S type cars with bonnet leapers seem to be rapidly becoming a statistically significant sub species :D
  25. Sorry for the apparent delay Gary. I did post up the D2B sequence but for some reason the post has vanished. Maybe I didn't click on "Post" - I'll make sure this time The sequence is:- Audio Head Unit CD Autochanger Telephone Module Voice Module Navigation / DVD Module Premium sound Power Amplifier Then back to the Audio Head Unit I've heard that the order isn't critical but also heard that it is critical so I've always used it and never had a problem. Hope this helps.
