  1. Disabling speed locking is a simple enough task if you know somebody local with the Jaguar diagnostics Russ. As an aside, a few years ago I enabled speed locking in my Rover 75 after having been stopped in traffic and seeing a monster of a man on the pavement giving my car some far from cursory glances. Being in a certain part of Wolverhampton, I operated the central locking which, of course, was loud enough to be obvious and aforesaid monster-man decided to give me a few well chosen words of advice So now, the situation doesn't arise as my car is always locked when I'm in it and it automatically unlocks when I turn the ignition fully off, meaning the engine can safely be shut down if appropriate without the doors unlocking. Some of the places around Wolverhampton where i have to drive, I'm not going to disable it "any time soon" as my students would say As a matter of interest, here's something which works with X Types, cribbed unashamedly from another forum, which might work with the S Type:- Turn on the ignition so all the dash lights come on but don't start the engine. Lock the door using the button on the door handle and then unlock the door (but don't open it) 3 times. Turn off the ignition. Lock the door using the button on the door handle and then unlock the door (but don't open it) 3 times. Turn on the ignition but dont start the engine - you should be able to hear a beep. Lock the door again as before then unlock it (only once this time) - a final beep should be heard. If all goes according to plan your doors should now auto lock when you go over a certain speed (about 5-10mph). This will also auto lock the doors if you reverse away. This mod will be operational until you repeat the above steps to switch it off. If you try it and it works Russ, please will you let me know?
  2. I'm coming to the conclusion that you are right in both cases Frank. It has never happened on my car but a couple of S Type drivers and an X Type driver at work have reported the symptoms. One suggestion was to remove the door card before spraying any releasing agent as it is possible that a stain might eventually appear on the face of the door card if the spraying was enthusiastic. I'm not quite sure how that would happen knowing the construction of the door card but I think I'd remove the card rather than take the risk :)
  3. Pleased it was an easy... and cheap fix Colin :)
  4. Audio Connection Module has ome up on fleabay for less than half price:- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jaguar-X-Type-S-Type-Audio-Connectivity-Kit-Complete-C2C40513-/151771533352?hash=item235649d028
  5. The parking brake should go into an interactive calibration if you've had the battery dis-connected so I'd agree with that being the first thing to do. The calibration procedure is outlined in your car's handbook. If you don't have a handbook I can tell you what to do :)
  6. Details Paul? Pictures?
  7. Do they do anything at all Kim? With reverse gear selected, place your ear close to each sensor in turn and see if you can hear a faint buzzing noise. Just a thought... you haven't got them disabled at the overhead console switch?
  8. Is yours a diesel Thomas? If so I'd be initially thinking about DPF needing to be blasted out.
  9. What happens when you push the locking button on the driver's door handle? What happens when you try to open the passenger door from inside Haydn? Do you hear the locking servos running? Can you manually open the door OK from the outside? Sorry for lots of questions but I'm trying to work through things logically.
  10. I was just thinking that myself actually Frank. I don't think I've ever seen one that colour before. I imagine it glows when it has just had a good polish.
  11. It was knowing how the inboard clips fitted that gave the game away Peter. Wynn's administered today. Will attempt to make a judgement over the next few days as to any improvement.
  12. No sooner said than done Jimmy. Welcome to the club :D
  13. Don't need to Phil. The point of checking the VIN was to ensure that the light wouldn't come on :)
  14. Bingo! The 10th digit refers to the model year. In my case, 6 = 2006 so I can apparently successfully blank off the EGR valves :)
  15. Haydn, The internal central locking switch is on the centre console, as in this photo:- It is the one next to the hazards switch and looks like a side view of a car door with a key symbol superimposed. The panel is directly below the audio controls and may have three or five switches on it. Speed locking is where the doors automatically lock when the car's speed reaches 5MPH. Hope this helps :)
  16. My research suggests that earlier models, with a VIN number where the 10th digit is a 6 or less, can be completely blanked off Peter. The later VIN numbers are likely to cause a permanent MIL light on. I'm waiting for a couple of replies regarding whether the Land Rover and Jaguar versions of the engine will both have the same digit at position 10. I never have liked EGR valves and I'm of the opinion, that the reduction in EGT, in an attempt to reduce the NOx output, pretty much a political knee jerk reaction, has rebound effects by increasing other pollutants, notably, unburnt hydrocarbons. I removed the EGR completely in both of my Rover 75s and it was well worthwhile. In fact, in the later one, a pipe of roughly 55mm internal diameter had been reduced to a size that a pencil wouldn't go through. As an aside, I've just learned how to completely remove my air filter lid. What a right royal PITA that is, until you get the lid off for the first time and realise how easy it would have been had you known then what you know now... so to speak. I was chuffed to see the inside of the air filter housing as clean as a whistle as well, having heard horror stories of the amount of debris to be expected inside. So Wynn's EGR cleaner tomorrow afternoon, I think, when I can convince SWMBO to be the S Type pilot and keep the throttle in a fixed position. If that has a noticeable effect then so be it, but I will probably go for the EGR removal if research suggests that my VIN number will allow. When the old girl gets the wind in her sails she fairly flies, but at low revs, she is just a tad less responsive than I'd like :) And... isn't it wonderful to be paying less for diesel than others are paying for petrol
  17. Hmm... It seems that my VIN number shows my car as being suitable for EGR blanks without the MIL light coming on. I'm tempted :)
  18. So I guess Haydn has sorted his door out :)
  19. Hi Paul, and welcome to the club :) I'm sure you will end up with a comprehensive list but here are a couple to start you off:- Try to exhaust the brake servo vacuum. With the engine running and while driving you should not be able to do so but the servos in the diesel are becoming a bit notorious for oil contamination, leading to loss of vacuum. They way to check is to keep pressing the brake, releasing and pressing again. If the vacuum exhausts you will get a hard and unrespinsive brake pedal. Check the sills under the plastic covers for rust. Make sure you can't smell exhaust fumes in the interior. The two exhaust connections by the cats are prone to stress crcks and can cost a fortune to replace. Make sure ALL the electircs are working. Nothing electrical is cheap to fix on these cars. Having started off on a pessimistic note, I'm sure you won't see all of those things :)
  20. Just as a thought Dus, but if you find the fuse has blown, I'd be wondering what sort of accessory could draw 15 or 20 amps, and whether it would be something I'd like to connect to my car again? Just a thought.
  21. Or indeed, halfway to nowhere Peter :D
  22. This is great to see chaps :) I might need to ask Gaydon for more parking space :)
  23. Me too please Phil if you don't mind :)
  24. Homelink is a simple plug and play task Stan. Finding a Homelink module using the UK frequency is not so easy :) Dipping mirrors on reverse works well enough but I've found that it is a bit of a waste of time and I've had it switched off for quite a while now :( That's only my view of course.
  25. Would be great to meet you Andrew :) If you decide, please can you post in the meet thread? http://www.jaguarownersclub.com/forums/topic/11623-jaguar-owners-club-west-midlands-meet-19th-september/
