  1. Mine needed replacing on my S Type Bill. Front bumper off to access the washer bottle then the pump is a simple swap over. Suggest use a generic pump rather than buying from a dealer. Price difference when I investigated was a factor of ten.
  2. SWMBO reckons she can see the difference between my original door panels and the retro-fitted seats Andy. She's the only one who can though. The door cards which go with the seats are still available but the coloured part at the top of the front door trims doesn't match my dash.
  3. Hi all, On the S type front doors, the uper part of the trim panel is a continuation of the dashboard colour. Does anybody know if this part of the door trim can be changed please?
  4. Baz, I'm of the same opinion as Phil. If you have an invoice or some other proof of the specification of the car, you can get them to return your money or a pro rata proportion thereof. Is the car otherwise good enough to keep? The items you mention are relatively simple to retro-fit if you decide the car is a good enough basic vehicle to keep. The one thing I'm not yet sure of is the powerfold loom. It would be nice to find it in situ and to be fair, Jaguar seem to be much more enlightened about cable looms than some other manufacturers, notably, in my experience, MG/R. I'd like to follow developments if you decide t explore the powerfold route. As I understand it, the driver's switchpack is the same regardless, so I'd suspect that some, if not all, of the loom is present. The mirrors can be had from such as fleabay for not a lot so it would make a worthwhile retro-fit :)
  5. Hi Martin.See you there
  6. I have just seen the effect of using T-Cut on the trim strips chaps and it seems amazing :)
  7. Thanks Harv. It certainly does appear to be a plastic surface :(
  8. The chrome trim around the doors on my S Type looks like it is sort of tarnished but nothing I've tried will bring it up to standard. Please can anybody advise? Thanks.
  9. LOL I could just see his brief sitting down and accepting it if I handed down an extra onerous sentence in Court because he'd caused me trouble
  10. Don't know about Traffic Cop Andy, but the police car was right on his tail so I might well see the driver in Court in the not too distant future, but I suppose I'll have to recuse myself from the case seeing as how I'd probably be considered prone to bias against some twonk who almost killed me AND almost damaged my beloved car.
  11. A tribute to my S Type. I was first at a set of traffic lights on red. The lights changed and I started across the junction, only to see a car coming towards me at high speed from my left with no chance or intention of stopping for the junction. There was a Police car behind the approaching vehicle, clearly in pursuit and I was in prime position to be "T-Boned". I pushed the throttle hard and she answered admirably, with kick in the back acceleration, clearing the junction with a fraction of a second to spare. That was quite as close as I ever want to be to such a situation.
  12. I know that Charles... but now my S Type has it as well
  13. Den, the sat nav reads data from the DVD into RAM, where it remains until power is removed, even if you change the disk, so after and disk change, you'll have to re-cycle the ignition to allow the sat nav to read the new disk. From personal experience I'd say you won't lose anything by trying different disks
  14. On the assumption that I can't be the only club member to be interested in retro-fits, the response to this thread suggests that the subject is something akin to admitting that one has an STD
  15. I know it isn't for everyone but I like retro-fitting / modifying my S Type. Please don't get me wrong, my personal idea of a good modification is something useful rather than boy racerish, although I will allow that my Synergy box might exceed specifications Anyway, is it just me or is there a murky sub-culture here? Perhaps you might like to let everybody know what you've successfully done to your car? Who knows, somebody might be contemplating such a thing and might be grateful for some help. I know I have been on several occasions :) I'll start the ball rolling:- S Type Retro-fits:- Bluetooth phone Homelink Rear screen blind 16 function and heated seats Headlight power wash Audio Connectivity Module CD Changer Aux Power Socket Jaguar Voice S Type Modifications:- Keyfob controlled powerfold mirrors Synergy module Dipping mirrors when reversing Anybody else want to admit their exploits into the arcane? <_< As a matter of info, my insurers are very forgiving of my tinkering and have only slightly loaded my premium on one occasion. I do, however, let them know what I've done as a matter of course.
  16. Brian, The wiring diagrams I have show it to be relay 12 in the engine bay fuse box. Mine is a 2006 car and I've just confirmed that removing R12 does indeed silence the horn. So between Frank and I, it'll be thereabouts
  17. Thanks Kenny. My concern is the route to take though mate.
  18. Sorry Kenny, not sure what you mean?
  19. Well, that didn't take long Just over an hour, including time to interpret the wiring diagrams, lash up a prototype and test it in the car. Works perfectly. All I need to do now is program a PIC for the timing and logic - simple enough to do.. AND work out the best way to get a single 20AWG wire from the driver's door into the car... hmm, good luck with that Paul - at the moment the test vehicle has a wire running under the driver's foot mat and in the door via the trim panel and SWMBO is NOT amused Can anybody assist with that little task please? On the Rover 75 it was a pig to do using the in situ cable trunking betwixt door and body and I can't see the S Type being any easier. The final module will be smaller than a box of matches and require five wires to be connected... and will be completely invisible :D So now my S Type has automatic dipping of the driver's (and passenger's if required) door mirror whenever reverse is selected. You know... thinking about it... I could probably do it without recourse to the car's memory function Will I never learn?
  20. This is not my idea. A friend of mine told me about it and he found it on another forum so, if the originator sees this, please accept this as my acknowlegement. One thing I would have liked on my S Type is the driver's door mirror pointing downwards whilst reversing. A close solution to this is, if you only have one regular driver, to set memory position two, the same as position one but with the mirror angled downwards so when you select reverse you just press memory two and achieve your required mirror aim, pressing memory one when reverse no longer required to reset to normal driving position. In fact, I think I'll give some thought to enabling things such that selecting reverse automatically selects memory two and vice versa. Shouldn't be a difficult task owing to the fact that there is a readliy available reverse selected discriminant in the form of the reversing light signal :) Yes, that shouldn't take me too long to sort out :)
  21. There certainly seems to be anecdotal evidence that the brake servos are a weak link Herbie. That and the vacuum pump.
  22. Welcome to the club Denis :) Hoping to see you at Gaydon in September.
  23. Powerfold works from remote by using a couple of relays spliced into the wiring of the driver's door module Dennis. The phone setup requires microphone, Bluetooth unit and phone module, of which I have a microphne and bluetoth module spare.
  24. Hi Dennis, I'm new to the S Type as well. Only had her for three months or so. 16 function seats are those with four separate buttons on the side of the seat. In addition to the conventional 8 functions you also get the ability to increase or reduce seat cushion length and raise and lower headrests and raise, lower, extend and retract lumbar support. Not heated rear seats i'm afraid. They were never an option as far as I'm aware. I changed the rear seats because they were ever so slightly different shade to my originals, nothing more... except that I can get my skis (or golf clubs) through the little hatch now I can (hopefully) advise you on the phone system etc, if it'll help :) I think one of the main things which got me started so rapidly was the almost constant "can't be done" from certain armchair pundits on one or two other Jaguar fora. Red rag to a bull I'm afraid. In fact that was the reason I decided to make my powerfolds extend and retract remotely with the lock and unlock signals from the remote fob. Again, not my original design and acknowlegement to John Wright for doing so :)
