  1. Word of mouth is the best recommendation Nick. I asked about mechanics at work 20 years ago and as a result I've been using the same chap ever since for routine stuff.
  2. Nick, I had my discs and pads replaced as a matter of course when I bought my S Type a few months ago. I used a local mechanic and he charged me £230 all in so perhaps that might be a guide figure. This sort of work doesn't need a Jaguar dealer or specialist. Any competent mechanic will do a good job at a reasonable price.
  3. Have you, by any chance, got an Audio Connectivity Module in the centre console? If you have, what has happened is that one of your CD trays is partially engaged in the CDC. This happens if you are using an ACM. The way to deal with it is to de-select the iPod / USB mode on the ACM and the CD tray will retract into the cartridge. If you don't have ACM then it is simply a jammed tray. If you look at the cartridge closely on the right hand side you will see, through the small gap, one of the CD trays across the gap. Usually, gentle tapping on the cartridge with the handle of a screwdriver and ignition on, whilst tapping the eject button will serve to release the CD tray and allow it to fully retract. It can sometimes take several attempts though. If it refuses to budge then you will have to disconnect and remove the CDC and open it up to manually retract the CD tray. PLEASE don't try to poke a screwdriver blade in the gap. That usually makes things worse.
  4. Welcome to the club :) Any auto transmission problem which seems to be related to fluid viscosity (ie when heating up) would suggest an examination of the fluid. Firstly to see if there is enough in there Gareth
  5. I can't actually see why a laser scanned disk could cause a problem to a DVD reader Phil but.... you live and learn :) For details about the JOC meet:- http://www.jaguarownersclub.com/forums/topic/11623-jaguar-owners-club-west-midlands-meet-19th-september/
  6. Mine is a copy Phil and has never caused a problem
  7. Just a thought chaps. Is the option of HID as main beam viable? As far as I am aware, HID lamps take a finite amount of time from initial switch on to being fully bright. For example, main beams are regularly used to give a flash of light for warning or beckoning purposes, which relies upon instantaneous light emission.
  8. Having given this more thought, if the wiring was CANbus and misconnected, it would drag the bus down, probably causing comms failure Phil. First thing I'd check then is that the wires are connected as per my previous post.
  9. Phil, PM me your e-mail address and I'll send the wiring diagrams over to you.
  10. OK, I've found the wires you mentioned. They are a twisted pair and run from the Nav control module to the touchscreen. I can't see, from the diagram, why these should cause problems. Are they located in the correct terminals Phil? NCM- Yellow CA257-7 goes to Touchscreen FC92-4 NCM - Blue CA257-20 goes to Touchscreen FC92-15
  11. Will there be any member in attendance who knows their way round the SDD / Mongoose please? I was hoping to get a tutorial :)
  12. Well, I've never seen such a ridiculously unnecessarily complex work as the Jaguar S Type wiring diagrams. Sorry Phil, but I can't find anything of help. Pleased to hear your gearbox is OK now though. Who did that for you?
  13. I wonder if that is CanBus?
  14. Battery reset first, I'd suggest. Disconnect the battery for a few minutes and then re-connect. Can solve a multitude of gremlins. Other than that, at first thought, it seems that one of the D2B linked modules is intermittently faulty Allen. The D2B loop has to be complete for the whole setup to work. I think perhaps the phone module in the boot might be a place to start. You can take any of the D2B modules out of the network loop by disconnecting the fibre optic plug and fitting a bypass loop, which is just a plug with a loop of fibre optic connected between the two terminals. Alternatively, you could have a Jaguar dealer do a diagnostic check, ,although I have to say, from experience, that I don't have that much faith in them.
  15. Nothing immediately springs to mind Phil, other than the possibility that the system needs to be told what is installed, much like you have already done with the CDC. I'll have a look at the wiring diagrams though.
  16. You're really not having much luck mate. Any chance of more detailed info so I can perhaps look in to it?
  17. OK Phil, did the rain hold off?
  18. Sounds fun, but in the back of my mind, I recall there being an issue with HIDs come MOT time, unless the headlight washers and auto levelling have been incorporated? Just a thought. Of course,, if the X Type was available with HIDs during manufacture, it might make an interesting retro-fit :D
  19. I can send you the detailed instructions if you want Barry. You've done the difficult bit already B) Anything you're not sure of, just ask.
  20. Does anybody know the diameter of the pipe between the flexi and cat on an S Type diesel exhaust please?
  21. My passenger side wiper appears slightly high as well.
  22. Thanks again Peter.
  23. Thanks Peter
  24. Thanks both. Peter, do you mean the aerosol spray? If so, where do you spray it please?
