  1. I will do Peter. I've just booked it into a garages that specialises in common rail engines and more specifically, Jaguars! It's going in on the 2nd so I will keep you updated. Thanks for the good advice Peter. Chris
  2. Thanks Simon. It seems I'm having the same problem as your problem number 2 only I took it to a local mechanic and he said it was the fuel pump. I have ignored this because yes, it's a problem with the fuel system in some way but I have it on good advice, some from Peter, that it's more likely something else. Thanks for all the information though. I feel as if I'm learning something new every time I log onto this forum. I may soon be able to fix my own car ha ha. Anyway, thanks Simon and Peter.
  3. Hi peter. I have done the same research as you it sounds. The problem I see is, like you rightly say, it's a genetic code for the whole fuel system, so if I was to change the fuel pump and the problem persisted, I've wasted a good amount of money without getting anywhere. I do also think the mechanic I took it to didnt seem very confident with his diagnosis. It's a bit of a mine field this p0251 code so perhaps best to take it to a jaguar specialist? Thanks. Chris
  4. Hi there guys. I was just wondering if anyone knew the symptoms of leaking cylinders? It's an expensive job to get done so I want to be sure. The p0251 code has come up and a mechanic just read it literally without any research as my fuel pump (£350 fitted) but I don't want to get it done just invade its not the fuel pump and it turns out to be the dreaded cylinders. Any help would be awesome. Thanks, Chris
  5. Hi Simon, I too have an x type 2.0 diesel sport and I too had the loss of power and the glow plug light flashing. I went down the road of blanking the EGR valve off. This was simply because of the black smoke under acceleration I thought this was loose soot in the valve being blown out due too the output in exhaust gas. After I had done this the car ran smoother in idle but didn't help any with the glow plug light coming on and the loss of power. I would love to hear how your terra clean went because I think I'm a bit sceptical about getting the cylinders checked with the amount of money it costs. Thanks, chris

  7. Hi I'm chris from nelson lancashire near burnley.
  8. Trevor I wonder if you could shed a little more light on the EGR blanking. I'm blanking my x type diesel this Friday and wondered if there was any need to clean the EGR thoroughly before fitting the blanking plate or does the plate render the EGR useless? Any help would be brilliant. Thanks, hope I'm not hijacking your post paul. Chris
  9. Yeah thanks Ron. I will seriously consider it. It would be nice to hear people's stories rather than read them.
  10. Thanks Ron. I'll have a think about it because I like the thought of doing things I've never done before. I was a little worried you might say it's all about concourse and such but that's put my mind at rest. I wouldn't mind seeing some of the older Jaguars in person.
  11. The other problems with the car are minor. Windscreen washers and a/c stuck on at times although I'm not sure if this is automatic or not. As I say, I'm a proper first time owner
  12. Sorry mr popey, I totally missed your comment. The main problem I have found so far is a loss of power when putting my foot down, the car goes into limp mode. I've researched this and to be honest it's a bit of a mine field. I have looked up all the tell tale signs, smoke from exhaus and turbo not kicking in and I've found myself at the EGR valve. I'm no mechanic but I think due to it being cheap to do and pretty easy, I'm going to remove the EGR valve and give it a good clean, I'm not sure if this is going to be pointless though as I will be blanking it straight away. If you have any knowledge about this I would be very grateful to hear it or even your opinion on blanking the EGR valve.
  13. Cream leather sounds a bit tasty! It probably wouldn't be cream for long if I had it. I've never actually thought about going to a meeting as I've never been involved with anything like this before (my 2 previous cars, 1.2 corsa and 1.2 clio campus sport.) what do these meetings entail?
  14. Wow, that's a pretty amazing difference Peter. It sounds well worth the few pence extra to get the good fuel rather than the cheap supermarket stuff. Taking into account mpg and how it protects the engine better I would say it's well worth it. You don't happen to know which petrol stations are best for cleaner fuel do you? Also thanks for the words the guardian. What type of Jaguars do you have?
  15. Hi guys. Thanks for the advice. I have to admit I never knew of any difference in supermarket fuel and proper forecourt fuel but I will be sure to spend the extra to keep the jag tip top. The car is going for a full service and most of the small problems sorted so I will be able to enjoy it to the full on the weekend. Can't wait! Thanks for the welcomes.
