Hi Michael. You may be aware of this already or not but i thought i would mention it. Did the gauge function before or have you not noticed. My 2.2D, and many other members, only shows movement on the gauge after a motorway trip or if i give it a bootfull to really make the engine hot. Even so it will then only go up to the first 1/4 line. In the colder weather the Diesel engine temp does not move much at all. Even so it will drop down again straight after. This may not be the case for you but i thought i would mention it. Hope you sort it. John.

Haha excellent Peter! Sounds like it was just meant to be doesn't it. Yeah I really do love my X Type but its just not quite the full Jaguar feel. The S Type seems to be a popular choice and if you find the right one they do look stunning. Beautiful location by the way and your S Type is a great example.
-
Thanks everyone. I have accepted that if i want feather like power steering then i must buy a S Type haha. The X Type was my first Jag and i must say it is a good place to start but it really hooks you and makes you want to upgrade to the next model. My dad has had Jaguars all his life; XJ's, XJS's, XK's and now the S Type R so i have grown up in Jaguars. Guess its now part of my blood xD!

Hi Joe. Yeah i done all the checks . Tyres are good and no noises or anything from strut etc. As i said there is no signs for me to think my steering is not functioning correctly but i do not know anybody else with an X Type to see if the steering is different so i resorted to speaking to other owners on here. I now know that it is just how it is. S Type upgrade here i come haha.

So if i wish for nice feather like steering i best go buy an S Type then haha!. Thanks Peter.

Hi everyone. Just a quick one. My dad has a Jaguar S Type R and i must say his power steering is like a feather. You could drive with one finger all day, but when i get into my diesel X Type there is a considerable difference. It feels considerably heavier. I have changed the fluid and it made a small difference but still nothing like the S Type. Dont get me wrong i have power steering and it is not heavy in any manor or making any noises. I just noticed how much lighter it is on the S Type and i am envious haha. Is this just the quality of the setup on the X Type or will i be looking at a new pump later down the line?

Shuddering/Flat Spot, Limp Mode, Gear 3, 3,000 RPM, 2.2D HELP!
JohnBoyL94 replied to JohnBoyL94's topic in Jaguar X-Type Club
Yes previous to my more serious running issues I had a failing EGR valve which I diagnosed simply with the blanking plate. The valve was sticking open giving me hesitation and limp mode, eventually it wouldn't start at all. Yes I did have MIL light on with P0405. And having been in touch with Celtic Tuning they say they can delete the EGR on mine. I would assume they are correct but time will tell. -
Shuddering/Flat Spot, Limp Mode, Gear 3, 3,000 RPM, 2.2D HELP!
JohnBoyL94 replied to JohnBoyL94's topic in Jaguar X-Type Club
Hello Peter. I have solved my problem. Turns out the cheap aftermarket fuel filter I fitted did not agree with my car. I bought myself a Bosch one and car runs beautiful again. regarding the EGR valve I have just blanked this off and will be getting the EGR deleted when I get my remap done. hope you solve your problem. And thanks for your post. John. -
Hello to all! Ok so i am coming to you for some assistance as i am really running out of ideas. My 2.2D X type has an issue. Whenever i am accelerating through the gears there is a problem. Gear 1 is fine through the whole rev range, gear 2 is fine through the whole rev range, but gear three as soon as i get between 2,000 and 3,000 RPM it starts to hesitate/shudder/flat out and then throw itself into limp mode. This is worse depending how much throttle i am using but it is always there. Here is what i have tried so far; New MAF sensor, new MAP sensor, new EGR valve, new turbo actuator and i replaced the intercooler pipe that had a split. The only fault code i am getting is p0405 (Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor A Circuit Low) and sometimes it changes to p0409 (Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor "A" Circuit). But my EGR valve is blanked anyway so even if it had an issue it would not effect how the car runs. I am now thinking i have a problem with the wiring to my EGR valve as regardless if i unplug it or leave it plugged in the car behaves the same, also i checked the plug with my meter and i found my 2 earth wires no problem, but the other 3 are all reading 5 volts. I read that 2 should be earth, 1 should be 12v, the other should be 5 volts and the third is a feedback wire which i guess should only read a voltage when the EGR valve is responding to a signal but it is a constant 5 volts so maybe this is my issue? As i said i am now clutching at hairs. I really hope someone can shed some light on this situation. Thanks in advance.

First X Type impressions after 2 months
JohnBoyL94 replied to Vanquishman's topic in Jaguar X-Type Club
Hello Mark. Glad overall you are happy with the X Type. I was impressed when i bought my 2.2D. What people fail to realize is that yes it is a ford engine, but it shares its engine with the Diesel Mondeo ST, needless to say it goes very well for a diesel and i have been to blame for many people going home and scrapping their S3 after being left in a cloud of soot (i was shocked myself). The X Type is underestimated for what it is. It really is a real Jaguar. The second your in the seat, close the door and total silence from the outside world is immediate. It does not rattle, shake or sound like a tractor. The shape is much similar to the S Type and XK. You can see where they kept the same ideas when designing the shell. It just feels like a Jaguar and i can say this because my dad has owned many! Oh as for your headlight issue, this is very common with the X type, you might want to take the rear caps off and have a play with the housing, the adjusters normally break and end up aiming your lights to the ground, speaking from experience. I bought a new set of repaired headlights for £150 on ebay, now all is well and i can see again! And with the sound system set the base to 4 and the treble to 6 by using the systems equalizer, i found after much experimenting that this is the perfect settings. If that does not make an improvement then some numpty has probably blown your speakers. Anyway enough of my blabbing. Welcome to the X Type club! -
Hello everyone. I just thought i would share this experience with you all because i hope it will help some of you out and prevent this series of events coming your way. I recently was having issues with my 2.2D X Type where i would have flat spots under acceleration, kangerooing and simply lack of power. When this would happen my car would go into limp mode and i would have the flashing glow plug light come on. My first point of call was to look for a turbo leak. I had the usual split intercooler pipe coming from the EGR valve. After fitting a new one the fault still existed. So i now replaced the EGR valve in case this was the problem... nope. After some brainstorming i moved on to the MAF sensor, nice and easy job and only £25. Still no change. Clutching at hairs i now aimed for my MAP sensor as the symptoms fit with hard acceleration, turbo pressure gets high etc... After a real struggle i managed to fit a new MAP sensor and believe me that was a struggle there is next to no space down towards the bottom of the intercooler hose. Much to my disappointment this did not solve the problem either... only to find that after all of this work it was my Turbo Actuator that had failed on me! This is apparently a very common fault with the diesel x type, s type and mondeos! So to all if your car has the symptoms i described in the beginning of this post (loss of power, flat spots, hesitation, or kangerooing around 2 - 3000rpm) then i would try the turbo actuator first before putting yourself out for the rest of the work. The actuator is not a big job at all. Hope this is of some use to people!

Ah that is a shame. Oh well it was worth a shot for £3 i guess. Hope you get it sorted. John.

Hi Dean. Hope this is of some help. My diesel X type has a coolant leak also. Nothing drastic but it does go down overtime. I found it to be the thermostat housing. Noticed water dripping from the gasket/seal. I will eventually sort it. Might be a good place to check in case this is a common X Type fault. John.

Very good statement, if you are enjoying the Christmas "Spirit" then hang up the keys :). Have a great one everyone. Merry Christmas!
-
Hello Ian. Are you buying good quality bulbs? Or bulbs from ebay that say they are "good quality"? John.
-
Hello everyone. Just in case I am not near a computer on Christmas day, here is an early Christmas wish from me! Have a great christmas everyone. Dont forget to treat the X Type :P. Yours, John.

No problem, happy to help. Yeah let me know if blanking it solves the issue. John.
-
Hello Aaron. Your problem sounds very similar to my issue i had with my EGR valve. The valve was starting to stick open so was choking on its fumes and gradually got worse to the point my car would not start. I blanked it off with a £3 blanking plate from ebay and it ran perfectly. Just left it blanked and car runs like a dream, if not better than it did before. For £3 and a 15 minute job it is worth a try. Let me know how it goes and if you have any questions im happy to help. John.

Well said Kevinfx22. Driving style does play a big part in the fuel economy but either way the MPG is great in these cars and you couldn't get better car for your money. I would recommend them to anyone.
-
Hello! I have the 2.2D X-Type and it is incredible on fuel. I get about 40 - 50mpg, that is around town and occasional motorway. Not to mention it has 150BHP and 270 lbs/ft of torque! Pulls like a train but with the fuel economy to make it affordable to floor it. Best car i have owned and even my dad, who is a very experienced Jag owner, says it was a good buy which is saying something as he normally tells me to scrap the cars i go for xD! If your going to get one then go for the Sport, has nicer detailing to give it that real Jag feel.

Hi. Do you mind me asking what H1 LED bulbs you found that actually fit because all the ones I have bought are too wide and do not go through the slot into the housing. Thanks. John.

Hello Sean. No problem, just trying to be helpful. I just had my clutch done on my 2.2 diesel, the guy that did mine confirmed to me that the subframe did have to be dropped and it was one of those jobs where nothing wanted to undo. Fortunately he was in a garage with a 4 post car lift so it was some what easy for him. Took him about 5 hours. I would never have done it on the drive way. However I'm glad I converted to a solid flywheel, it is so much softer and smooth. Hope you get yours sorted. John.

Oh i forgot to give you the link to this guys ebay shop. He is very helpful and has great prices: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/TECHNICLUTCH/FORD-CLUTCHES-/_i.html?_fsub=3006636&_nkw=jaguar+x+type+flywheel

Hello all! I don't know a lot but I know enough. I have the 2.2D x type and was lucky enough to find a solid flywheel conversion clutch kit for £300 on ebay. Brand new and made by Valeo (supposedly a good brand). Yes I am converting to a solid flywheel as I dislike the idea of dual mass. However I just done a bit of research regarding the 2.0 V6 and it seems there is not a solid flywheel conversion for the petrol engine =(. But I did find a good price full kit here: (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JAGUAR-X-TYPE-2-0-V6-LUK-DUAL-MASS-FLYWHEEL-DMF-AND-LUK-CLUTCH-KIT-WITH-CSC-/261190810412?fits=Car+Make%3AJaguar%7CModel%3AX-Type%7CCars+Year%3A2002%7CPlat_Gen%3ACF1%7CCars+Type%3A2.0+V6&hash=item3cd02f7b2c:m:m1hevpfSv55TQyDK5eIZcoQ) As regards to doing the job... I am passing the buck to someone I know with a garage and all the space, tools and knowledge required to do the job. This is not something you can do on your driveway with a jack and axle stands I'm afraid. I believe it is required for the subframe to be dropped and all sorts so not nice. Buy yourself a good priced clutch kit and then find somewhere that do not charge extortionate labour to do the job. Hope I have been somewhat helpful. If I haven't answered a specific question then please ask me if you wish. Or if you think I am useless just ignore me xD haha! John.

Hey BertieBoy. Just wondered how the exhausts you have been making are coming on? I will be considering a new system on mine soon. Thanks. John.
