Sounds awful for the money they were asking Gary, I'd expect much more! Good advice from Jon there, my AJ6 runs sweetly and is a fantastic engine, lighter than the V8. I'd keep looking 😉

Interesting, as I have a leaky expansion tank and wasn't sure if a common problem, or just mine! What's this about the tanks cracking? You should replace the hoses and the cap as a matter of course, then keep an eye on them. I suspect it's age / fatigue related and hopefully nothing more to worry about. For interest, I'm going to use jubilee clips and not the standard spring clips, mainly as I have them already...

Don't blame you Jon, if I was buying for an R, I think they'd have to be Y rated, in case I ever remapped and had the speed restrictor removed. These Nexens do look good though, hopefully they perform as good as they look
-
Yup, I think I'd pay that, quick win really. Unlike your awesome STR, us AJ6 owners are a bit limited on tuning options. But with the exhausts, a look at the induction and panel filter, plus having her working perfectly. She should be close to the N/a V8 in power, but 150kg lighter and with a manual box . I'm not in a rush through, having spent quite a bit in the last months, I don't need to do it this side of Xmas Hopefully someone out there has some direct experince to guide me?

Hi all, I know big gains can be had from remapping forced induction S-Types. Including the STR and diesels. But it's unclear if there is (much) benefit to remapping the petrol V6 (AJ6). My local 'chippers' don't list the AJ6, but Celtic do and claim +18 Bhp and similar torque gains. But I have to send them my ECU and it's £300. Does anyone have experience or knowledge of remapping an AJ6, or of Celtic Tuning? Reviews look pretty good. Thanks, Russ

Couple of things: 1. My man let the car go before removing the Gearknob, but I have a replacement so just need the gaiter and surround. There us one from an 02-08 manual on eBay. Would this be compatible with my 2001 or were they changed? 2. Paul, you mentioned you broke and replaced the ashtray. Does the console gave to come out to do this? Thanks, Russ

Ha ha Jon, but what a good excuse for a road trip! Hopefully the Donnington trip will come off and suit you better. I will try to make both and I'm taking an Aston round Dunsfold next month. Father in laws birthday present I helped arrange

The Nexen's have arrived and look pretty awesome! A mobile tyre guy is coming to do some swapping around on Tuesday and will strip the new rims. I'll spray them ASAP and report further when they're on the car. We got a puncture in one of the Winruns, so I'm using a Conti on the front and handling is definitely compromised. I imagine the Conti is a better tyre, but has different characteristics to the other 3 so the total result is off. I'm hoping the new rear Nexens will work well with the Winruns, I'd rather have the same make and model all round given a choice

Like Peter I have 18's, not sure anyone in the club sells tyres, but 185/40/18 is probably what you need. I've just gone for a couple of Nexen N'Fera which tested and reviewed well

My sisters Disco is newer still, and being that production of the S-Type finished in 2008, I guess all the later ones are within the £295 tax band?
-
We'd have the problem with the weather anywhere or when, although of course it's always sunny in the south . Re the money, I'm sure we all spend this amount on complete crap during the course of the month(s), I know I do! Whereas taking the Jag out on a racetrack is something we'll remember forever. It's barely the cost of a couple of tyres or tanks of fuel, and we may get these prices down, so I say we get our priorities right and get something sorted . I'm pretty committed to having a go on the 08 December at Goodwood, but a Jag or all British day at Donnington or elsewhere is also a possibility. I know Peter liked Goodwood, and I'm on the Isle of Wight so have a ferry to contend with wherever I go! Does anyone have contact for Donnington or another track and can make enquiries? Using Goodwood would be a bit special as it's historic and a stunning location, but if location and price are an issue for some, we could go elsewhere...
-
Not sure re the tax, my sister pays c£515 for her 2.7D Discovery, same engine as the S-Type and we only pay £235 for our older TD5 and £295 for our S-Type which is after 01 but before the new CO2 regs came in...
-
Yup, not cheap, but you get unlimited track time for the whole day. I thought it was worth it so I'm attending the December day and can report back. It would be great to have other S's and even an STR there, don't suppose Joe or Jon are interested? To far for Jon I'm guessing

Cool, I replaced discs and pads all round recently, well worth doing!

I have no issue with when we do it, as long as we do it! Although, by the looks of it, the summer months are more expensive. This is what they said: Hello Russ, Thank you for your enquiry into a track day with us at Goodwood, it would certainly be great to have you here. Below I have given some details about the hire costs and what is included, these are starting prices and will depend on the month that you come. In terms of availability October is looking busy with only a few dates left – plenty of availability in Nov-Dec. I have assumed that you will be looking for a 98dB day but can supply you with the cost if 105dB day is required. All the options below include the following: · Goodwood Chief Instructor · Marshal Package · Duty Track Steward · Emergency Medical Technician · Comprehensive Public Liability Insurance · Noise Monitoring Staff · Response Vehicles · Use of the ground floor of the Jackie Stewart Pavilion. October - £7525 + VAT for full day use of the track November (please note track closes at 4pm) - £4955 + VAT for full day use of the track December (please note track closes at 4pm) - £2845 + VAT for full day use of the track Just a reference for the noise limits if you did need to research: 10 CAR DAY – ten cars at any one time : 98dB static measured at ¾ max revs / 96dB drive-by or 5 CAR DAY – five cars at any one time : 105dB static measured at ¾ max revs / 101dB drive-by I am also very happy to provide you with catering costs should you wish for your guests to have breakfast/lunch/afternoon tea. If you would like anymore information please do let me know and I look forward to hearing from you shortly. Best regards, Harriet So quite a range of pricing! I also spoke to a local connection who organises events at Goodwood regularly. I'm attending a track day there he's organising on the 8th December at the cost of £180, there may be other spaces available if anyone is interested? He says he can help us organise ours and get a reduced rate, but I'll keep both avenues of communication only to ensure we can get the best deal. I asked him if doing a part day was possible and he recommended a full day was best. Cheers, Russ

Already ordered, so expecting them in a couple of days. I want to spray the rims before they go on, so it may be a week or so. But as soon as I've given them a go, I'll let you know

Hi all, I've spoken to Goodwood Motor Circuit and just sent them an email requesting details. They seem well set up for this and I've been there before, it's a fantastic location for it! They can offer various packages, which I'll report back on. Ideally we'll be able to get a decent number together to spread the costs. I've also asked for a calendar of available dates, are we thinking something later in the year? The closer we get to autumn and winter, the less likely we are to have a nice dry day, but we have to take our chances with this! More soon, Russ

You're right Jon, some vendors are listing the Nfera as Y rated, but the label definitely says W, which will be fine for mine, but maybe not yours if you had the speed limiter taken on when you remapped her! The decision has been made and I'm going for Nferas in 275/35! I'd hope they'd be on the car for years, after which saving £50 to get a wrong size, with poorer economy, will be false economy. Also, I suspect the Barum's are cheaper as they've been superseded, so it's vendors dumping old stock and I wouldn't be able to replace them or match the fronts if we decide to stick with them. I hope sidewall flex will be minimal on a 35 profile with 32-40psi in them, now I've decided I can't wait to get them! But I will be spraying the wheels first so they are tiptop. After this I may need to hold back a bit on the spending, as I have been throwing a bit of money at her recently. Well worth it though, I've got some good bargains that should really add to the car and her road presence .

Hi all, I've asked my contact at the local car club how they go about this, we'll see what he says. I suspect we won't have enough interest from this forum to make it viable we hire the circuit for our exclusive use. The car club I mentioned is a selection of enthusiasts with all sorts of modified equipment (boy racers), we could piggy back onto the next time they are there, but it would be nicer if it was just Jags. So it would be good if anyone who is interested could try to drum up supports and see if we can get some numbers. As Peter says, it could be a great chance for us to meet up in person even if not wanting to race / go on the circuit, and Goodwood is a super old historic track, just ticket for a venue I'd suggest! I'm planning on attending the local JEC meet next month, so I can see if any other local Jag owners would be interested. It would be great to do this and to get us and our cars together! I hope this happens! Cheers, Russ

Just a thought, the N'Fera are th only ones on my shortlist that are Y rated, not W, and I doubt whether sidewall flex in a 35 profile would be the issue that it would in a higher profile If I was buying for an R I think I'd wouldn't go anything less than the N'Fera in a 275/35, but I'm leaning towards the Barum in a 265/35 based on price. Although only £50 difference for the full size N'Feras. Where did you see them for £180, I see them on eBay at that price, but +£20 postage...
-
We're in a similar / same boat Jon! I've spent hours looking at this and I need mine for a 240bhp sport, not your 400bhp R! I've thought I've found a winner on a couple of occasions just to have a curve ball thrown in at the end. The Nexen N'Fera SU1 seemed OK, but is a touring tyre, not high performance. Nexen N6000 pretty good but dire economy. Quite interested in the Barum Bravuris 2, made by Conti apparently, also E on economy, but only £150 for 2 in 265/65. Could be false economy to save a few £ then pay it back at the pumps. Or stuff economy and base decision on grip and performance? I'm almost certainly going 265/35 as plenty big enough and better prices for what I need. What psi do they recommend for the staggered R rears? Happy hunting, hope you come up with something suitable
-
Saw that one at Beaulieu Peter, quite something! I'll speak to my mate to see what the score is, and take it from there. If not much interest from us guys, we could potentially piggy back onto the next time they are there. How many are interested?
-
I spoke to a guy from a local car club and they hire Goodwood regularly. Quite cheap I understand if a few of them. I'd love to have a go, shall I make enquiries?
-
Decided against the 275/40, silly idea from the start, too high sidewalls. The new wheels have arrived and look good 😀. Although I'd like to spray them at some point. Tyrewise I'm mainly thinking 275/35 Nexen N'Fera SU1. I had a look for 285/35 as Joe suggested, but they were either too cheap with poor tests and reviews. Or too expensive, with the possible exception of a Nexen N9000. Does anyone have experience of either of these on a S-Type? I know Paul uses Nexens... Where are you on your decision Jon?
-
My opinion Keith is better the devil you know, and your car looks good. Tax will be higher on newer ones as well I think 😉
