Hey Paul, You've done better than me as I can't find one at that price, perhaps you could PM a link if you're not comfortable with posting one on the forum. Is yours the sprung loaded type and 5"? I'm coming around to the idea... Thanks, Russ
-
That looks pretty smart Paul, and I'm starting to get very tempted! May I ask which one you went for, eBay or elsewhere? I know my father in law thinks we should definitely have one and they look so right on the original MK2's and S-Types ;)

Rear subframes can rust out too, but sounds like a lot of car for the money ;)

I've doubled checked my handbook and for my 2001 model with 245/40/18 it says: 26/28 - Max comfort 32/34 - Normal But I've seen 30 all round recommended elsewhere, which is what I've been running with and it seems fine, definitely not the 51 psi mentioned previously...
-
Welcome to the forum :) On my 245/40/18 wheels, the psi is supposed to be 30 all round, it would never be 51, perhaps this is a max figure or something, sounds dodgy! Most modern cars have heavily damped temp gauges so are supposed to sit in the middle, this is fine but if it goes above centre, something is wrong. Have a look in the engine bay to see if you can identify where the noise is coming from, this would be a start. If you can't see / hear anything and it only happens when it's moving, it's more likely to be suspension ;)

Similar to the original post, I have a 2001 S-Type Sport with 18" alloys and I love it, not had it long and looking for an excuse for a good long road trip! If the attachment works, here she is next to a '66 S-Type at the annual Jag show :) attachment=1589:STypes_cropped.JPG]

I changed my auxiliary belt recently and I found it a bit of a sod to be honest, glad I choose to fit a decent one so I don't have to worry about it again for the foreseeable. Similar to Andy's story, mine was running rough under high load and I took a punt it that it was nothing more serious than plugs and coil packs on the left bank. Luckily it wasn't and the problem is cured now, she goes better than expected TBH :)

A local independent is going to do my spare next week, my original is in poor condition so tempted to either send that off to an eBay refurb service, or buy a 2nd spare and have the indie do both. Refurb is c£20, any ideas on the programming process or costs anyone? Thanks ;)
-
Sorry for passing on the info Dus, I wonder if the whole thing is a joke! Turning ignition on and off and fiddling with indicator stalks and such seemed an unlikely way to program a Jag fob, has anyone ever actually made this work, and if so which model and which method?
-
Hi Paul, I already have the autolock / drive away door locking activated if we're talking about the same thing. I live on the Isle of Wight, so less issue with undesirables trying to gain entry, I also have a black belt in karate if it came to ejecting someone ;) So I'd be happy to disable the autolocking, which would then solve the issue of being locked in the car and unable to open the doors except by removing the key from the ignition and using the key fob. Is there a similar procedure for doing this or do I take it to a specialist? That said, if I got the driver and passenger door locks working as they should, I wouldn't need to disable speed locking, so either option will work for me. Thanks, Russ PS. Finally getting some wax on her prior to the Jag show tomorrow and she looks great! Photos to follow...

Good advice as always ;) Tempted to a avoid p*****g about and just have the door cards off to see what's going on. I have black leather, so unlikely to stain, but randomly spraying WD40 could do more harm than good. Thanks :)
-
Hi Frank, It would be a relief to sort it, I'll try your fitters WD40 method in the drivers door, the thing I'm slightly suspicious of is the previous owner said work has been done on the passenger door CL module. Perhaps I'll do both ;) Cheers, Russ

I'm following this with interest as it sounds like we're having similar issues, my 2001 doesn't have a switch on the centre console, but there is a button on both front doors. The 'drive away door locking' feature works and locks the doors once the car is moving. TBH, this is a bit unnecessary and I'd disable it if I could which would pretty much solve this issue. Before I had the key fob sorted, I had to lean over and pop the passenger side button, or open the passenger door, as the drivers door button doesn't unlock and the drivers handles are non-operational once the locking has engaged. Once I was unable to do this and ended up climbing out through a back door I had managed to open! If there is a passenger and they open their door 1st, it allows the drivers door to open, but this is not always the case, so I often have to remove the key from the ignition and use the fob. It's all a bit annoying, embarrassing if strangers are in the car and potentially dangerous as if we did have an accident, we're locked in tight!

Lovely job on the wheels Martin, I need to do something similar to mine at some point. Plus I'm jealous of your exhausts but don't fancy spending c£500 on a set anytime soon. If you see another 2nd hand set do let me know, perhaps a PM is best or everyone will want them ;) I'm planning a major valet on mine prior to attending the local Jag show, so I'll take some pictures for this topic after that :)
-
Thanks Phil, hopefully this will help me track down a couple :)
-
Hmmm, unless he still locked in ;) Changing the battery in my fob has helped as I now have this option, but the unlock microswitch is on the way out and I don't trust it, so I need it refurbed or replaced at some point...
-
Hi all, Can anyone identify my wheel please, it's 18" from a 2001 S-Type Sport, but I think not the Monaco alloy that many of them had. I like them but a couple are badly kerbed and I'd prefer a full size spare, so if I could find a couple 2nd hand, it would be a bonus, and knowing what they are would be a good start to tracking them down ;) Thanks, Russ

Probably not so much an issue on the age you're after, but some of the early ones can rust badly on the rear subframe, so a poke around underneath to ensure everything's in order is worth the time. Unusual tyre wear could signify suspension wear or damage but this is non Jag specific, here's some links: http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-reviews/36911/jaguar-s-type http://www.rac.co.uk/buying-a-car/car-reviews/jaguar/s-type/207419 http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/jaguar/s-type-1999/

Wow, that is a bargain c2% of the original buy price! I got a good deal on mine to, but it had to be Sport spec and a manual, so I paid a bit more than that. She's a 2001 '51 plate and now drives beautifully. It had a nasty flat spot that was cured by new plugs and coil packs and now goes like a rocket if she needs to :) I'm less happy with the 4 different tyre manufacturers on each corner, and eventually I'll replace all the brakes, shockers and upgrade to polybushes, so the handling is as it should be.

Hi Dus, I had a very cursory try of one of the methods, and mine was like yours, no beeping, so perhaps it is a red herring or just doesn't work for our models. I may give it a proper run through, but I'm not hopeful! If you find someone sensible to do this for you, please let me know, happy to pay and or send away for it. A local jag independent suggested £90 for key and £60 for fob. The local Chant locksmiths cut me a transponder key for £64 and the eBay fob was £15, so I'm still slightly ahead ;) Cheers, Russ

If yours is a 2001, as mine is, the handbook suggests it's a 20A in the passenger compartment fuse box, number 32. It would be a shame not to treat yourself to the owners manual, as below, there is a special place for it to fit in the passenger glove box: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jaguar-S-Type-Owners-Handbook-99-01-/261988289272?hash=item3cffb80af8

Hey Dus, I've always taken SE to mean Special Equipment, and I echo your thoughts. I love my Jag, what a machine and what lot of car for the money, outrageous! Cheers, Russ
-
I can't vouch for this as I haven't tried it in detail but there are a few options for DIY programming shown here: http://www.bluejag.co.uk/S-Type-keyfob-reprogramming.php If you can make it work, do let me know as I'm in the same boat, recently bought Jag with 1 key fob, and an eBay sourced spare that is yet unprogrammed. If I have a chance to try it I'll report back on any success or lack of it ;)
-
Hi all, Thanks for the replies, I'll speak to the local representative and if they sound sensible and will let me take the S-type to the show, I may join for a year. But I'll continue to use and contribute to this forum, which I've found very useful :) Thanks, Russ

You may have detected I was being a bit tongue in cheek about the enemies bit ;) Who is a member of the Jaguar Enthusiasts Club then and is it worth the £47? Cheers, Russ
