Well done Stuart! A lot of hard work, but I'd call that a result! That rad you took out looks proper gone! I replaced my drive belt and Berkshire Jags got it right 1st time, really, really tight though! Other than the header tank I've not had to do much on the cooling system, although AC needs charging again so need to track down that leak / fault. Unfortunately I've not had time and opportunity to drive my Jag recently, let alone work on her, hopefully this will be resolved in the weeks to come! Good write up, well done

I imagine you've explored this option already, but I've just had a quick look and it appears that 'classic cars' are subject to different import regulations and: Classic cars are exempt from the one-off registration tax; scrap deposit tax must however be paid. Based on buying one here for £3000, and you'll have your pick at that price! There only appears to be about 10% duty on it, you just need to get them to accept it's a classic. Not sure what the rules are here, but many of us insure our S-Types on classic car insurance and it is a Jaguar after all! A 'neo-classic' at the very least

Well done Ozkan! I imagine your job would have been easier in the UK with more widely available second hand parts. Hopefully it will be worth it and you will have many years of good service from your Jaguar . For interest, may we ask what you pay for your fuel in Turkey? Cheaper than here I bet!

Hi there, Welcome to the club / forum. Before anyone can help you I think we'll need some more detail, age and specification of car, petrol / diesel etc. Although your reference to spark plugs may point towards a petrol. But doesn't sound right to me, are you getting any fault codes? Guessing you have an auto, or you'd hold it in gear yourself. Do you have and have you tried the sport mode? Good luck, Russ

Hey Jim, Was that St Helen's that identified the heater flap? I used to regularly take mine between the IW and London and definitely take the A3, much the better drive and a shorter ferry from Fishbourne. She'll eat the road, mine does at least Look forward to seeing your efforts with the double din unit as I'm planning this as well Cheers, Russ

Well done Sir! Good work being done there! If our plan for a trip down to Cornwall comes to fruition, I'll definitely have you cast your now expert eye over my suspension if you'd be so kind. It's working great but I still have a slight clonk from NSR. Like you, I see no reason why our cars can't be as good as possible, so happy to repair, replace and upgrade so as to be in as good as is possible

We generally name our cars and the new van has a name already, after only a couple of weeks; (Ludwig, as in Ludwig Van BeethoVan!). But for some reason we've not found a name for the S-Type yet that has stuck. I normally call her 'the Jag' which could get complicated if I buy another of the marque. And my mother in law has an X-Type named Charlotte, so we don't get them confused...

Hey Steve, I had to change the expansion tank on my X200 as it had cracked, but mine was situated up by the bulkhead and was a bugger to get out. Access looks much easier on yours, so for £50 I'd be tempted to get a new one. As Jon says, you'll only need a litre or so of coolant for the nominal loss from the header tank. Or if you have a decent mix already, you could top it up with water. If she's been losing fluid though, your antifreeze will probably be quite diluted, as mine was. I bought 5L from the autofactors, but used it on the other cars as well. Cheers, Russ

In my experience all that owner key programming routine is just nonsense designed to test our patience! I tried and tried but had to give it up as an urban myth or physiological experiment i.e. how long will you keep at it despite no evidence it's doing anything at all! I eventually went for a good condition key fob (I have the early X200) from eBay and had my local independent programme it for £20. I've since had the original refurbished by an ebay seller who replaced the micro switches. I bought a new rubber pad I fitted myself. 2 decent keys now at a fraction of original quoted costs, job done

Hmmm, I must get in there and have a proper check, but handling is not being affected and I'm pretty fussy, so would hope to know! I'll talk to the Mrs about a West Country trip, she's from Devon so we love it down there. Only slight issue is we have a puppy so would generally have to take the Disco or the new van, but it could work in the Jag, not sure when though! We're pretty busy for the next month or so and I have a few niggles to sort 1st, like the rear windows (regulators ordered) and AC, but I'd love to get our Jag back on those roads and it would be good to see the 2 manual Sports side by side .

I bet your ride and handling are transformed, hope so anyway Before I did my tyres I had different rubber on every corner (why do people do that, idiots!), and the handling was frankly unsafe, she'd lurch and gripe on high speed corners in a most unsettling way. My 1st set of Winrun R330's sorted this and luckily, the handling has not been upset by now having 275/35 Nexen's on the back. Good luck with your other plans, you must be getting to the bottom of it! I still have a slight clonking from the NSR as yet I've been unable to identify, bearing in mind I have completely new lower assemblies on both sides, I wonder what else it could be? I should take a spin down to Cornwall Laz and we'll compare notes

Great! Another club member and enthusiast on the Island Actually the local JEC are quite active and the they have an annual show you can take the Jag to in August. Normally at Havenstreet but this year at Sandown Airport. I'll be missing this year as we're away, but I've attended the last 2 and it's great, contact Keith for details, he's on their website etc. The S-Type is definitely a 'neo classic' IMO. It looks like a proper Jaguar and once rust and fashion have thinned out the herd, people will start appreciating how good they are, as I'm sure we already do. May I recommend James Garage in Newport for the AC recharge rather than Halfrauds, he'll put a tracker dye in so any fault can be identified. £60 not £49 but worth it IMO. Mine needs recharging again so glad we did this so can see where we have the leak. St Helen's Garage can do your keys and have the full diagnostics should this be required, and if you don't do your own spannering, do you have a trusted mechanic / garage? Have you posted pics? I'll keep an eye out for you

Mine only broke down under load, i.e. it idled and ran fine until you floored it, when it lost 1 or 2 cylinders. This would not have showed up when not under load, so I Laz's test would not have worked with mine. Getting rid of the car because it has a faulty spark plug / coil pack is a bit defeatist IMO, these are consumable items that should be replaced if you don't have firm evidence of them being done recently...

Any progress Jim? Hope it's gone well! You mention corrosion, if you're not committed yet and or the dealer / mechanic is a good sort, ask them to take the sill covers off and have a look. I got off lightly, small patch on one side only, c£100 welding, plus £200 for Waxoly of complete underside, inc wheel arches. Some have been written off for what's under those covers, or more pertinently, what wasn't under those covers! Just a thought as it lets you go in with your eyes open, hopefully yours will be pristine

Interested in this too, particularly can the steering wheel controls operate an aftermarket head unit? I have the earlier X200 but thought I'd be looking at a double DIN unit. Not bothered about savnav and touchscreen, but playing from phone or USB without the expensive ACM is of interest...

A-Plan applied the equivalent to my NCD to the 2nd policy on a discretionary basis, so I'll take that as a win! £362 with the few mods I've done (exhausts, spoiler, staggered alloys) and 4 named drivers including me

Thanks guys, A-Plan can do the van, they were £584 vs the £500/1200 Direct Line so much better if NCD can be applied to both. I'll do some metaphorical arm twisting if necessary to have the NCD used across all of my policies, as I'm putting the MGF back on the road next year so will need that one too! I can't see it's any odds to them, I can only drive one car at a time, and I'm surprised Direct Line made such a big deal of it, doing so has effectively lost them the business...
