  1. Would it be worth spraying some lube/ penetrating oil (WD40 or similar) in the 'valet lock' and fettling with this? Even with no power, the key will manually open the boot on my X200, not sure if there is the same set up on a 2005 model. If the lock is dry or seized, it might be easier to give this a few minutes and just a few £/$ for a can of spray...
  2. I've been super impressed with the ride and handling on mine since changing tyres and making a couple of suspension repairs. I think our Sport's have a firmer ride, but it's still comfortable IMO. Similar to you, (I'm on the Isle of Wight) we also have 1 dual carriageway, and no motorway, so mainly windy B roads. If your get yours anything like mine, you shouldn't be dissapointed, but don't overlook tyres, matching rubber on each axle is a must, regardless of tight budgets! All the best, Russ
  3. Ah, that would explain why you can't just buy one from Europe and drive it home, bad luck!
  4. Wow! That's quite expensive, the cheapest example I've found in the UK is this 2005 model at £2495 = €2908, but I'm guessing you'd want left hand drive in Turkey, so perhaps could buy from Germany or similar. When I was last in Turkey, this fantastic taxi driver had bought an old W123 Mercedes and drove it home himself. He was still using it 10 years later when he drove us to Ephesus!
  5. Haha, leaping cat indeed!
  6. Understood re the subcon of parts, but to date Jag bits seem a lot better! Took one of the door cards off last year fully expecting every trim clip to disintegrate (like the MG!), and they didn't, bought some spares and the only ones I broke were the spare ones, not the originals!
  7. Ordered mine with the handsfree option, as my X200 didn't come with this
  8. A comprehensive explanation there Ralph, thanks! I've fitted poly on my MGF, but generally the standard quality of nearly everything MG is worth upgrading! With higher quality jag bits I've been tempted to stick with OEM, but will bear your comments in mind when a change of mine come due. Did you press them out yourself and was this much of a job? Cheers
  9. Very nice, makes the car look like polished aluminium!
  10. Hey Joe, That's really interesting, I tried both the iPhone transmitter c10 years ago and a generic android more recently and it was a bit of a frustrating experience, with low sound quality and it keeping dropping out so frequencies had to be switched. If the Geartist GB01 actually works reliably, it could be a great solution for me and my older Jag ICE system. Can't imagine you'd recommend something less than adequate so I'm getting one! Cheers, Russ
  11. Glad you're making progress Ozkan, sounds like running a S-Type in Turkey is more expensive than the UK! I was recently offered a complete 2005 running donor for my car for £400 / €475, but this was a petrol not a diesel. We are lucky here that there are plenty of S-Types, and they are just at that time when the values are relatively low and many are coming off the road because of MOT (annual road safety test) failure. So secondhand spares are relatively cheap, and good availability of independent new spare parts keeps the prices low. Hopefully you will be back on the road in your Jaguar soon
  12. Thanks both! The locking issue is not affecting the alarm / sounder Joe, just the door locks, does this change your diagnosis? Mine is a 2001 X200 BTW... Pretty sure I have an old XP laptop kicking about, and we have a tech genius at work who could rig something if not. But I think I'll go the £10 integrated unit in the 1st instance, probably handy for it's portability. If I then need something better, or have call to add and remove modules myself, I could upgrade to the Mongoose laptop option. Our local independent have the all singing all dancing one that hangs over the steering wheel, and they reset the security locking (when the car moves etc) for me for £20, so I'd only need so many of these before having my own would be the better option. Cheers, Russ
  13. Hey David, Glad yours is improving, but as mentioned, don't be too afraid of the door cards, better than many I've fettled with! May I ask which was the better OBD reader you bought? Don't mind spending a sensible amount if it's one they'll work, especially if it'll do the Landy as well! I did coil packs and plugs and it made all the difference! Getting the inlet manifold off is a PITA which is why many won't have been touched. You'll need inlet manifold gaskets as well and I went for good quality rather than cheap as I don't intend on doing that job again for some years, if ever! Thanks, Russ
  14. Just for interest David, I found taking the door cards off pretty straightforward. The trim was all pretty good quality and I was able to reuse the original trim clips. So don't let this put you off too much. But do allow yourself some time and have the requisite parts and solvents available, I Waxolyed mine while I was in there just for the hell of it! If I can hijack / add to the thread, I'm having trouble again with my central locking. One press on the remote gets a temporary locking, which springs open in a couple of seconds. It needs a double click for a permanent lock. Also, a single press opens, but within a few seconds all the doors lock on their own accord. Don't think it's a remote issue as same with both, I suspect a sticking door actuator or something. Just had the engine management light come on as well, which could be telling me exactly what the issue is! But I've given up on trying to make my OBD reader talk to my iPhone, so I'm thinking of buying an integrated reader from eBay. Not sure if it's any good, but at £10, not great risk, unless anyone has better ODB suggestions? Many thanks, Russ
  15. Wise not to try to mess with the gaiter, as your supposed to remove the centre console and get to it from below. I had to effect an urgent repair on a broken gear knob and went in through the top, now it's all a bit flappy and wrong! I'm now looking for a spare 2nd hand black console and will build it up with new gaiter before installing. Agree with Lazlo, could well be clutch / hydraulic related. Cheers, Russ
  16. Thanks! Very useful! I did both gearbox and transfer box in the Disco recently, which I don't think I was supposed to be able to do without a pump. But I found I had enough room to squeeze the oil in from the little bottles. A bit messy and I did end up with some of it down my arm, but it worked! Hoping to do mine soon and lube the linkage as Joe suggests, she shifts OK, but may as well improve and protect if I can
  17. Hey Ralph, How did you get on with the gearbox oil change? Is there a drain or you pump / vacuum out or similar? I want to do this shortly, so any pointers would be gratefully received. Which oil did you use as well? Cheers, Russ
  18. A V8 does make a nice noise, but so does my V6 S-Type with the stainless tail pipes on on TBH I did a stint as a fabricator welder, working with 1-5mm plate and box section, and after that, welding cars is a nightmare, it's like they're made of tin foil! My 94' 300TDI has had a new boot floor and some patching, and will need a bit of welding before I put her back on the road, but I have a guy who can do that on the cheap so it's unlikely I'll try it myself. Speaking of welding, have you had a look under the sill covers on your S-Type? They're a bit notorious for going there, but if you have welding skills, you should be OK
  19. No experience of those, I went for complete wishbones with bushes but they were £163 inc the VAT each, ouch! Good quality though and don't intend on having to do that job again. TBH, it was having to shell out of those that made me think of the donor car option. If In had the donor I could've pressed out the old bushes at my leisure and saved 1/2 the money etc. Can I recommend you have a look at Berkshire Jag Spares, they've really sorted me out (plugs, coil packs, inlet gaskets, brakes, suspension arms etc, etc) they don't sell rubbish. It looks like they have the bushes at comparable prices but in the UK, backed up by specialist knowledge. I normally just call them, link above
  20. Thanks for the reply from Lazlo, but I've decided against this, even the seats are far from a straight swap. If I'm getting a donor, and I don't really need one, it would make sense to get an X200 of a similar / same colour. So I've told the guy no thanks...
  21. I know exactly where you're coming from Stuart! I'm lucky in that I now have somewhere indoors to work on the cars when required, and the option of a relatively cheap local mechanic I trust if I don't fancy the work myself. These 2 things would've been unimaginably luxuries just a few years ago! All the best
  22. Haha! There are a few of us here running both Discos and S-Types then! My comment was part based on Disco ownership, our TD5 was rumbling, whining, grinding and squeaking all over the place and I replaced transfer and gearbox oil, along with thrust bearings and UJ's and eventually got her sorted. Obviously the 4WD is different to the RWD, but if it's not on the hubs, the transmission is the other option. Good luck with that and let me know how you get on, I want to do (manual) gearbox and diff oil soon as well. Replacing all the fluids is one of the few original tasks I set myself that I haven't done yet
  23. Differential perhaps, or transmission bearings?
  24. Hi Ozkan, Nobody has replied so I'll try to help! If spares availability are an issue in Turkey, would it be worth seeing if you can source a complete donor car, with an engine, either locally or somewhere else in Europe? There are a few eBay sellers advertising complete engines, but at c£3K for the diesels, I can't see this being a cheap exercise! Which is why I wonder if you could buy a complete car and drive it back? There are also online breakers you need to enter details for and they'll come up with what they have, this could be worth a go. And as you are probably aware, the 2.7D in the S-Type was used in a variety of other cars, so there may be something else in a local breakers that may be suitable: Diesel engines are the Ford/Peugeot 2.7L HDi Ford AJD-V6/PSA DT17 which is used in a number of Ford, Peugeot, Citroen, Jaguar and Landrover models. Hope this helps!
