Hi Michael, Sorry can I ask please do you mean connect negative to positive? if so answer is no connect negative to negative / positive to positive. here is how best to charge a battery Even if you jump start as a quick fix, it's a good idea to look into charging a car battery properly to keep it in good condition. Find out how below. How to recharge a car battery Check what kind of battery your vehicle has.If your car has start/stop technology, you'll have an AGM or EFB battery. A conventional charger isn’t suitable for these types of batteries and you’ll need a 'smart' charger instead. If you're not sure what kind of charger your battery might need, pop into one of our stores and we can help you out. Check the contacts. Before you connect anything, take a look at the lead terminals coming out of the top of your battery, and the clamps that connect them. If they look dirty or corroded, you'll need to clean them before charging your battery. Disconnect your car battery. Although charging a car battery while still connected or in situ is possible, it's always a good idea to disconnect the battery before charging after a quick clean. Always disconnect the negative (usually black) lead first and reconnect it last, otherwise you could end up getting a nasty shock when you touch the positive terminal. The terminals are usually connected to the battery by a clamp, which is loosened or tightened by a bolt on the side. Undo the terminals (negative first, remember!) and move them to one side. Plus, remember that if you disconnect your car battery, you might need to reset your radio, seat positions and dashboard settings, so make sure you've got the security codes if you need them! Connect the charger. Keep the charger as far from the battery as the cables will allow, and never leave the charger on top of the battery while it's charging! Connect the clamps of the charger to the terminals on the battery, matching positive to positive and negative to negative. Then, plug the charger in. Turn on the charger. Some chargers will turn off automatically when the battery is charged, but others will need to be disconnected. Check the manual for your individual charger to find out how long it will take and what you need to do. The other option is to invest in a smart battery charger, which will assess the condition of the battery and tailor the charge cycle to fit, automatically switching to a maintenance charge rather than over-charging the battery. You're done! Once the battery is charged, unplug the charger and then disconnect the clamps. Then, reconnect the car battery (positive first and negative last, remember!) and away you go! If you're using a smart charger, there will be an indicator to show you when the battery is charged. Things to remember Charging your battery is really simple, but batteries can give off hydrogen gas while they're being charged - especially if they're being charged at a higher voltage by a fast charger. Keep the charger away from the battery, and make sure you don't leave anything on top of the battery.

Hi Rae, Just read this if it helps Sometimes, a malfunctioning or misadjusted transmission range switch can also cause the vehicle not to start in Park, but to start in Neutral. An electrical problem with the transmission range switch connector or wiring can also cause the same problem. ... A bad transmission range (position) switch must be replaced. Can you start it in Neutral? If you are in “Park” position and the display on the dash still says “R,” there is a linkage issue or a bad shifter position sensor. If the transmission is in park, but the car thinks it's in reverse, it's fairly easy to fix

Yep know the feeling🤣 Feel your standing still. I really think on motorways it should be like the parts of the Autobahn with no speed limit (only advisory) so we can really test our cars out!

Hi Big M, May be it s not a great MPG, but If it feels good and sounds good that`s a reason to smile😄 ( and 29.3 is better than my Jeep Cherokee!) Best, Julie.

Hi Benjamin, The X350 is a luxurious good looking car, I think that`s a good choice. When your family has grown a little, and they grow up fast, may be then look at something else if you still feel you would like a change. If looking at cars I would advise getting RAC / AA inspection even at a dealer its really worth the money. Unless you are a bit more mechanically minded than I am , still learning. I would always have inspection as had trouble in past. Kind Regards, Julie.

Hi Mark, So can i ask were you driving when the warning came on or had you just started the car? had it been used regularly or left standing? and when you restarted it disappeared is that correct? Some times restarting the car will clear the warning. If that was the case probably just caused by electrical problem as happened on my XF. Had no further problems. Kind regards, Julie. I have this article if this helps at all WHAT DOES “RESTRICTED PERFORMANCE” MEAN? Primarily seen on S-type and XJ-Series Jaguars, when the restricted performance error message lights up, it means the engine management system has determined a problem. Often this happens either at a cold start or while accelerating, and when it happens, the engine management system then throttles the engine, cutting back on performance in order to protect the vehicle. You’ll most likely cap out at 1800-2000 RPM when trying to accelerate. COMMON CAUSES OF RESTRICTED PERFORMANCE So, now that you know your car is sensing a problem, you need to get to the bottom of what’s causing the restricted performance signal on your Jaguar. The best way to really know for sure is to take it to a mechanic who specializes in imports, namely Jaguars, and have them hook it up to a diagnostic scanner. Once they know the exact source of the problem, they can get to the bottom of fixing it so you can be back at max performance sooner rather than later. There are a few likely causes to why this error message came on, including: - An issue with the catalytic converter that turns controls exhaust emission and minimizes toxic fumes; - Fuel system problem, including a clog in the fuel line or an issue with the pump. - Air intake issues, such as leaks in the air flow, mass airflow problems, intercooler hoses, or throttle body housing; Some of these are very simple fixes, such as the breather hose disconnecting from the throttle body, or a leaking hose that needs to be replaced. In some cases, such as a problem with the turbo turbine inlet valve, you’re looking at a more complicated repair. DIAGNOSING YOUR JAGUAR Before you take it in to a mechanic, there are some DIY solutions that may fix the issue.Take care to check: - Air intake box or air filter housing, and check for cracks and make sure the clasps are fastened properly. - Breather hose from the engine that crosses the intake pipe to be sure it’s secure and attached; - Mass airflow sensor after the air intake box. Carefully clean it and verify the wiring harness is fastened; - O-ring seals around the oil dipstick and breather hoses between the engine and firewall; If the car doesn’t start at all, the problem may be an issue with the fuel line or pump. CLEARING THE RESTRICTED PERFORMANCE ERROR MESSAGE In some cases, the simple “turning it off and on again” method may do the trick. If you can, pull the car into a parking lot or other safe location and turn it off. Give it two or three minutes, then switch on the ignition, but don’t turn the key all the way. Wait until the lights have gone off (except for the four that stay on all times). Then start the car. If this doesn’t take care of the problem, it’s important to drive the car as little as possible until you can get to the root of the problem and take care of it.
