  1. Oh I am also going to buy a new fuel filter - does not look like its ever been changed according to receipts. Car is quiet and runs smoothly. Transmission gear slightly stiff when it gets a warm when i want to put it back in to park. Or when I need to put it to drive from park when engine is warm. I have been reading articles on the net and what I am doing now is that when I park up, i turn the engine off and then put it in park. Also when engine is warm and when I want to start car, I put car in neutral and start it in neutral before putting in to drive. Seems to work better. No problem when transmission is cold. You can see now why I want to change the transmission oil. Any thoughts on that?
  2. There is one each side arent there? Connected with a plastic pipe. Doing oil change this week. Saw on Amazon synthetic oil (Ford oil) which i have confirmed on here that its OK to use - 5 litres for £20.00 - well the garage selling it is in Plymouth where I live so i went to see them. I bought 6 litres for £21.76 - heavily discounted - I have another 3 litres of synthetic oil (really high quality oil) to top up to required level. Now its looks as though the transmission oil has not been changed for ever and a day. I need to protect the transmission as its done 131000 miles. This looks like an impossible job for me to do. Do you know how much an all inclusive price is roughly to change the oil. I am not sure but is there an oil filter in the transmission sump? Also special oil is required from what i have read. Then I have to get brakes sort. I have the problem where the low brake fluid level message comes up on dash although the fluid is on max. I am noticing the longer i keep my foot on the brake pedal at standstill the further the brake pedal goes down. When driving though the brakes are fine and quite close to the top. Now my wifes car had to have a new servo unit and since a second hand one was fitted it changed the whole feel to the brakes. Now I am wondering if my servo unit is on its way out. I can get a used one on ebay for about £60 including the brake cylinder. The trouble is that its not clear where the problem is. Any thoughts?
  3. Thanks Frank - I had a quick look at the video but I need to buy myself some new inlet manifold gaskets I think. jaguar ones are about £82.00 after discount which is a lot of money. Seen many of them on ebay at varying prices but have o idea of the quality. Mk1 Escortmad - Unfortunately for me - mine is the 2001 model - the sport model. Its a job I have to do. A previous receipt recommended they they were changed urgently. That was early 2014! I am starting to regret buying it now. So many things to repair and not enough money to do all. Lots have gone since taking possession which were not obvious at time of buying the car or have happened since.
  4. What a garbled message my last posting was. Bottom line is that I cant clear the traction control flashing using the OBD2 scanner. Looks like a visit to the Jaguar dealership to get advice. Says no error codes.
  5. its not turned off. Good try lol . Strange that the former jag mechanic says the DSc strategy dad to free reset by the dealership. I think he said it needs to be recalibrated.
  6. From what I can see changing 3 of the spark plugs is quite straught forward. The other bank of three looks a lot more difficuult. can you pont me to any instructions on how to change the spark plugs please. Thank you
  7. I have found Ford Engine oil - synthetic - on special price for £19.99 for 5 litres. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ford-Formula-Litres-Fully-Synthetic/dp/B007NZ31Q0 Is it suitable for the jag? I cant see why not. But you may have other ideas Thanks
  8. Thanks for information Peter. THe former Jag mechanic also reckons that once the error light is on the traction control does not work. Anyway, I will have a play about tomorrow morning. Weather will be better then. Not using Jag at the moment, the window regulator went and has dropped down inside the door. All I can hear is crunching. Thanks
  9. I have just remembered Peter I have a scanner I bought years ago that clears codes. Just need to find out where I plug it in. Cant remember the last time I used it. Will let you know. Will have a go at the tomorrow morning.
  10. I take it if the brakes are working as they should then it should not fail the MOT because it has that error message. I have no problem with the brakes. Does as it should. It seems to me that these sensors on cars are actually sensing anything but are themselves the cause of the problems.
  11. Any thoughts on the low brake fluid level?
  12. Hello Peter - Made some enquiries online with an ex jag technician and his reply was as follows: Flashing dsc icon does mean that the system will need to be calibrated with the Jag tool. I cant believe that a car has to go in to Jaguar every time you have a wheel spin for recalibration. Others must have encountered the same problem as me surely. Any comments please.
  13. Thanks I am hopeful - only limited funds available. So will have to do it in stages.
  14. Need some help please Took car to small local garage because an error message - Low Brake Fluid - and also red brake light on - follows a garage pressure washing car. There is an oddity though the message goes when it rains. Returns when it get dry. Garage checked brakes - all pads Ok. Brake fluid level on maximum. Secondly, when the mechanic drove the car in the the workshop he got a wheel spin because floor was slippery with rain water. The result is that there is a warning light on - orange - re traction control. Keeps flashing - cant get rid of it. What needs to be done by the garage to get rid of it please? I will show the respones to the garage so long as there is nothing contentious . Thank you
  15. Thanks Frank. I will start posting then lol
  16. I am sure there are some links on here you can point me to please. I guess it is bushes that are the problem that are causing the problem. I am hoping that there is an inexpensive resolution to the problem. Can you point me to a web site that is reasonably priced for parts. car has been a nightmare since I bought it. Problems keep going on and coming one after the other. Thanks Bob
  17. Recently purchased in a private sale the above car. Neen a nightmare after a couple of daus. Going to cost me an arm and a leg to put it right (which I dont have). Cant afford Dealership prices to put it right....sigh I am from Plymouth, Devon, 63 Years old and a carer for my wife. having to work part time. Hope members on here can help me. Bob
