  1. Interesting question ? I assumed your drive for the sat nav update was in the boot. Left hand side. Black cover over the drive matching the boot material. Im wondering if your car doesn't have a separate drive !! just an end user. Not an expert. The paintwork !! Having spent a year trying to polish it, I just bought a machine polisher, watched a lot of you tube videos and I'm having a crack at it. Very pleased with the results so far. Not too pleased with what paint I have to work with. Jaguar did not do the best of job spraying my car !!
  2. Hi. Sorry to hear your having trouble with your sat nav. When I first bought mine, second owner, I popped the disk out of the drive in the boot. More to see what it was than any other reason. When I put it back, the sat nav would not work. Me being me I took the drive out and took it apart. The arm that scans the disk was stuck. I cleaned the arm and the bushing with isopropyl alcohol and it all freed up and worked. One year on it's still working. Not for the feint of heart but I managed it. Ps it was out of warranty good luck Robb currently correcting the paintwork on my pale blue 08 XF premium in the New Forest area
  3. Im 8 weeks into owning my 08 XF with all the toys and we love it. Its such a great place to be, drives likes a dream, a little thirsty but as said before on here, all is forgiven for the sheer pleasure of owning it. All our friends and family love it too Wish I had bought one years ago
  4. Hi Guys, I thought I would just share my experience with the Cruise Control on my 08 XF It was the first colder morning since i had bought the car, although I had been driving for a good half hour before using the Cruise Control. I was on a dual carriageway with lots of speed cameras so i always set the cruise control to 50 mph and leave it. This day I set the speed to 50mph with the control wheel on the steering wheel, then I notice the speed is climbing rapidly. The wheel on the steering wheel was stuck in the increase speed position !! it was at 57 before i realised !! I found that by giving the wheel a good wiggle in both directions it stopped sticking I don't know if anyone else has experienced this but please watch out for this, I nearly picked up a speeding fine and points, I can't see the court accepting my explanation All the best Robb
  5. Hi guys, car detailing has become a bit of a thing with me since i watched a guy on Youtube called junkman2000. He really knows his stuff and has some great tutorials on there. I have owned my XF for 1 week and so far i have only had time to clay the bodywork. This is using a clay bar, best I've found so far is the turtle wax one with a spray bottle of lubricant, tried the Macquirs which costs more and the clay bar is half the size. It take off all sorts of marks and contaminants that polishing simply leaves behind. You have to try it to believe the difference it makes. I then use a brand called Poorboys. Its available in the uk in plenty of independent car shops but not Halfords. They have various products but i have used their No2 swirl remover, brilliant at taking out all the little swirl marks from older polishing or from car washes flailing the body work to death. It can be used in direct sunlight too so its great for just taking out the off mark when you feel like it. Next I use the White Diamond show glaze, they make a version called black hole for darker bodies, to really make the car shine. I have never waxed a car as I'm never happy with the shine and to get it better I would need to remove the wax. Best of all, this stuff smells great, a bit weird i know but most smell fantastic. Watch the guy on youtube if you have an evening to loose and the time to really get to grips with your paintwork as it becomes addictive and you find yourself looking out the bedroom window just to see it shine!! Good luck with the car, the paint colour is awesome, I need to find out what mine is, its a light blue that i haven't seen another of yet.
  6. Hi everyone, I'm a new XF convert having owned a Volvo for the last 13 years and putting 204k on it, I'm hoping the XF will prove as reliable. Im loving the car so far, just not the garage that sold it with a few niggles that need sorting. Im down on the Hampshire Dorset border in the New Forest and look forward to hearing and learning more about my new car. Thanks Robb
