My 2000 3.0 V6 doesn't have it and I assumed it had been lost/left off at some point but maybe they were only fitted on later models. Anyone know for sure?

If the silicon spray can't get in then surely water from the wet weather wouldn't either. I'd try the silicon spray anyway, what have you got to lose.

Hi, I am struggling to come to terms with having two cars with the indicator stalk on the right of the steering wheel and the Jag with it on the left. I just get used to one way and then I drive a different car and am continually turning on the wipers each time I want to indicate a turn and vice versa. Does any one know if there is a way to swap the indicator and wiper control stalks on the S-Type? I realised they are specifically shaped for the original side but is there any way this swap can be done?

Hi, My 2000 S-Type has the colour codes CGG, SDZ, CR I know the CGG is the paint colour Carnival Red I think the SDZ is the leather colour Cashmere but what is the CR? Is it the carpet? or the Wood trim? And what is it's colour name?

Certainly sounds like an electrical short somewhere. I'd check the wiring as far as you can see it, looking for any signs of damage to the insulation, especially where it passes through metal bodywork. Also could be caused by water in the wiring or connectors shorting out. If this doesn't find the culprit you probably need to get an auto electrician to check it for you.

Why? The purpose of a rear spoiler is to provide added downforce at high speed. I doubt you would ever be going fast enough on the road for a small lip to generate enough force to make any noticeable difference. Unless of course you plan to use the car for track racing in which case suspension updates will have a much bigger effect than a small boot lid lip. Or are doing it just for looks? In which case I'd say forget it. The S-Type is perfect the way it is.

My thoughts are:- 1. check tyre condition, ie good tread, correct pressures, if all OK 2. get wheel alignment checked. If you still have the problem 3. get a proper suspension check done 4. take another S-type for a test drive to see if it's any better, either one from this club if one lives near you (I'd offer mine but I live in Australia), or find one in a car yard and make out you are interested in buying it.

Don't worry, after driving an S-Type it will feel like the right hand pedal doesn't do anything anyway.

Hi I noticed my recently purchased S-Type doesn't have a tray/shield beneath the engine bay which I understand it should have. How important is this shield? What purpose does it serve? It will certainly make servicing easier not being there and I guess that's why it has been left off at some stage in the past. Should I be concerned and be looking to replace it or just not bother?

In the absence of more qualified responders I offer the following suggestion which I was thinking of using. Get a piece of solid steel the size of the head of the scissor jack and thick enough to extend below the lip around the jacking point, place that on the plate of the trolley jack and raise the jack so that the metal piece fits into the scissor jack recess. Not ideal perhaps but it should work. But please note I have not yet tried it myself. An added thought - you'd need to ensure the block doesn't slide off the plate as the jack is lifted. My jack's plate is concave so I don't think I'll have any problems but if yours is flat be careful.

There is at least one vid on YouTube showing how this is done and shows all the bolts/screws to undo. Just do a google search.

My first Jag was an XK120 when I was 10 (it was a Dinky Toy) Have loved Jags ever since. I now own two XK120's, 2 E-Types, a D-Type, an XK Coupe and an S-Type. Unfortunately the S-Type is the only real one, the others are all models!. But I LOVE my S-type to bits. Only bought it recently as my other car, a Nissan 300ZX Targa is becoming too low to get into easily as I get older. The S isn't as fast as the Z but most of the time you can't use all that power and speed anyway and the S gets just as many appreciative comments and looks as the Z, and it's so smooth and quiet (anything is quiet next to my Z). Yes I still love the Z but the S is the one for me now. Anyone want to buy my Z? (I live in Australia)

I solved the missing left footrest problem by making one out of some 18SWG aluminium I had and attaching it to the two bolts which anchor the steering column through the floor. I found the bolts were long enough to just attach the footrest using additional nuts without having to disturb the existing nuts. Here are a couple of pics showing the thing in place. Works a treat, didn't need to drill holes in the floor, and if I ever have to remove the footrest it's easily done. I'll attach some rubber once I find some suitable but it works perfectly Ok without.

Before I bought my car I was looking for one specifically with the leaper on but couldn't find the right one. In the end I got a car without the leaper thinking I'd fit one as soon as I could, but since I got the car it looks so good without the leaper that I have decided not to get one. At least not yet.

Hi. Reading my owners manual it says that the Battery Cover vent tube or breather pipe must be connected. Mine wasn't but I wasn't sure where to connect it to. Presumably it's to get rid of the gasses and obviously you don't want them in the boot. I stuck my breather tube out through a rubber grommet I found leading out to behind the rear bumper. Is this the correct place?

Hi Paul, You don't say if the vibration is related to road speed or engine speed. If road speed then I agree with Peter, your problem sounds like a tyre (or wheel) balance issue, or possible steering. I'd get them checked a.s.a.p. If it varies with engine speed (rpm) then it could be fan blade, or one of the belt driven items loose (i.e. alternator, ac comp, water pump). I once had a Cortina with a nasty vibration between 1800 and 2200 rpm. Above or below that the vibration disappeared. The cause turned out to be a broken mounting bolt on the alternator bracket.

Hi, I recently purchased my first Jag, a 2000 3.0 V6 S-Type with just 72k kms (44k miles) on the clock and am very happy with it. However unlike my other cars there is no footrest for the left foot. Is this something that Jag overlooked or do other models have one? Is one available anywhere?
