  1. Thanks Jonathan, just another flaw in the X Type. Had enough of them, never had a car that needed so much TLC for so little reward (Mondeo Mk3 drives better even though Jag spent a fortune to improve it!), other than the thrill and pride of that Jag badge. Poor fit and finish outside, endless trim rattles inside, diesel engine is a endlessly frustrating with a need for EGR cleaning / treatments every 4/5,000 miles (2-3 mths driving) to avoid smoke, rattles, vibration and poor MPG, despite running on quality fuel), climate system not a patch of my old Juke's, clutch failed, springs failed, little climate control fan just packed up, on and off driver's door not opening using the interior handle, sun roof jams, leather cracking despite Jag treatment......far too many others to mention. Just fed up of owing a car that should be great, looks great but fails to deliver.....and does that with a constant need for DIY fixes and maintenance. Bye bye X Type and X Type forum.
  2. I did this when I first got my Jag and it helped, but there's still quite a bit of wind noise from the front of the doors (ie the A pillar join for the front door and the B pillar join for the rear door). I can easily pull a sheet of paper from the seals. Moving the striker plates makes no difference here. The rubber seals are tightly in place on the door frames and Red Rubber Grease hasn't helped - any ideas? It's annoying to have wind noise in a luxury car! Not sure I want to start moving the hinges, assuming it's possible as a DIY'er. Thanks in advance, happy motoring.
  3. Thanks Peter. Settings are OK. If you use auto, it just pours air from the face vents and nothing else, seems to be a design flaw. I tend to turn auto off but often have the aircon on, to keep cool or avoid misting up. Trouble is, on a really hot day I want cool face and feet but I just get feet, and if it's badly misted almost nothing comes out the windscreen vents no matter what `you do with air con, recycle, demist etc.
  4. My 2009 X Type seems to have some climate issues. It does the usual steaming up, but lots of posts here and elsewhere say it's designed to have the air con on full time. However, if I choose face/feet or windscreen/feet, almost everything goes to the feet. There's very little difference in power to when I just choose feet. I've seen posts about problems with the S Type climate control, some of it looks quick tricky to fix. The useless dealer in Canterbury said it was fine when I asked them to check last year when it had a major service, but they also said the plumes of exhaust smoke and boot struts that couldn't lift an ant were fine. I sorted the smoke and struts myself but dpes anyone had help or advice for the dodgy ventilation? Thanks in advance, happy motoring.
  5. For those who lime to know where their car came from, who are insomniacs or who are just fed up of the Mondeo in a Posh Frock brigade, enjoy...... http://www.aronline.co.uk/blogs/cars/jaguar/x-type-jaguar/the-cars-jaguar-x-type/
  6. My Jag is due a minor service very soon. I have lots of parts, including a Bosch fuel filter....but I've never changed one before. I've found some useful guides here and elsewhere but there are some scare stories about fuel spraying out everywhere as soon as the pipes are removed. Some say just unclip and replace, some say release pressure from the fuel lines etc etc. What's the truth?! Any help welcome, thanks in advance.
  7. Well I've been driving my 2009 X Type since September and I have enjoyed most of it, but a little surprised by a broken coil spring and worn clutch. When I got the car it had a full Jag service history and only 27,000 miles. It's now on 39,000 and running better than ever but I was surprised when the clutch failed at 32,000, shortly followed by a rear coil spring. The last owner didn't do many trips and they didn't go far or push the car when they did, which isn't the best thing for a diesel (I don't mean drive hard, I just mean let her rev a little and enjoy a steady motorway cruise every now and then!). However, I can only assume they rode the clutch because surely a modern clutch (and let's face it, a clutch in a premium brand car) should last way more than 32,000? Or does the X Type have a weakness? My Juke did 60,000 in 3 years (mostly commuting to / from London in rush hour) and never skipped a beat - brakes, clutch, exhaust etc were never replaced. The coil spring was a shock. It had rusted through at the top and snapped in 2. It was very hard to see because the snapped part was only just peeking out from the cover - guess my Halfords does things properly! The fitter said it was rare, so has anyone else had this problem? Surprised how think the springs were too - original Jaguar parts but not as thick as I remember springs being a few years ago! The good news is I treated her to a Terraclean. As I say, still low miles but given the short, infrequent drives she had before and the all weather, all roads rush hour fun she has now, I thought I'd give it a go. I'd done an EGR clean but she ran a little smoky and there was quite a lot of vibration at idle. She now pulls away smoothly, there's less smoke and there's far less vibration. To top it all, she's doing 3/4 mpg more! I can recommend it, especially as Terraclean agents always run some diagnostics first to make sure the turbo and injectors are working OK. I was told the 2.0 diesel is good but the EGR, turbo and injectors give garages lots of business! Happy motoring and have a good summer :-)
  8. Thank you everyone, much appreciated. I found a brochure a few weeks back so I know it doesn't have DPF but I do lots of miles anyway, so that shouldn't have been a problem. Quite a few sites say the build quality for the last cars was poor because staff were on notice, which is why I thought I'd see if there were any particular things to look out for. Looking forward to using Premium Sound System on a sunny summer drive, does it sound as good as I think it will? Not yet played it on the move! Ron - that is better MPG than I was expecting. My Juke does low 50s on a commute that includes A and B roads, motorway and crawling in London rush hour, I was expecting Jag to be low 40s so I may be surprised...... Assume blanking off the EGR was easy?
  9. Hello everyone, I'm pleased to join this site and even more pleased to (very shortly) get my first Jaguar. It's a 2009 2.0 diesel Sovereign Estate and I can't wait to take it out and about :-) As a newbie to Jaguars and this site, I welcome any hints/ tips/ advice/ warnings about how to get the most from the car, common faults and easy improvements. I know I want MP3 audio asap (assume it's easy to buy aftermarket units that work with the Premium Sound System? Or use an Audiovox RDS USB interface?) It's coming with optional Jaguar 18'' wheels but I assume the standard 17'' wheels will give a better ride? Looks like you can swap them without any changes to the speedo etc because the 17'' are higher profile? It also has a sunroof that I think was optional - will than need any TLC or are they reliable? Thanks for any help you give me, happy motoring!
