Very tidy job you've done there David

Hi Peter forgot to thank you for checking the button thing on the fob, hope the cold buds went down well by the way The problem is I can't see it or hear it from were we live, so don't know what is happening, I'm now relying on the neighbour to let us know, the other problem is the council have stated if it continues to be a nuisance, they will send someone to silence the alarm or move the car to a place were its not going to be a nuisance at my cost! if I hear anymore about it I may consider a camera (do they record sound?) Regards Steve

Car Wont Start after 10 days away
Claws replied to londonxk8's topic in XK8 / XKR ( X100) 1996 - 2006
In regard to a recommended battery for an XK8, sorry Jason I couldn't help with that, all i can say, I know my one is a Bosch. Can I ask whilst you were away, was the car locked and 'Alarmed' for the whole period? that could possibly be the reason for a flat battery, especially if its a cheap one, I would charge your battery fully, and then try your window, if the battery was on its way out it may not have had enough Umph! to close the window, especially if its a little stiffer than the others, if it still fails to close after a full recharge of the battery, you can probably remove that as a possible cause, then you explore other possibilities If you got the battery 2 months ago (from new I presume) it will still be under warranty if its failed (as in there is something wrong with it) perhaps its not rated to the car, you have a big lump of an engine to spin over, and no doubt lots of toys to power as well. I'm no expert, but I would think you need a decent 'heavy duty' one -

Hi Jason Try charging the Battery Steve -
So Sorry Chaps for the delay in replying Hi Peter I don't know what is setting it off (if indeed it is mine, see below) unless, someone is having a go at it, and its not passing traffic, the car gets parked in a Cul-de-sac Paul No furry Dice (thankfully) or air fresheners etc. I spent about an hour last night in Paranoia central, hearing car alarms that weren't going off! and annoying my missus when I kept putting the telly on pause. We gave in, and both went down to the car last night, she was sitting there being very well behaved, booted the wheels a couple of times, Nothing! rocked her as hard as I could, Nothing! lifted her as high as I could by the rear arch, Nothing! Thankfully SWMBO knows a couple of neighbour's and one of them overlooks the car. The strange thing is, she (the Neighbour) has heard alarms going off during the day only? and she thinks it was two other vehicles, not mine? anyhow she will keep an eye out for us and will let us know I have left her locked (Obviously) on one press of the fob, although the red dash light is flashing as normal, so fingers crossed. it makes you wonder is it a bit of jealously that someone would make erroneous complaints, or a more devious tactic, to get the alarm disabled? (Oops, there goes that Paranoia again) Just a random thought, could the alarm possibly be acting funny, if the battery is on its way out? I don't have a multi meter, and wouldn't know how to use one if I did, me and electrics don't get on..... Steve

Hi Jon Firstly my apologies for the delay in replying A very touching and poignant reply, It's very easy sometimes to take life for granted, I'm of a very similar mind-set myself, because I know there's a lot more sand at the bottom of the 'Hour' glass now, than at the top, and have become very philosophical about things in life, but I of course care for those friends and family in my life, and will help anyone if I can My good Lady, gives me a hard time when I spend money, that's why she has money in the bank and I don't! but she's a good Girl, and does want to look after me, Bless her to the cars I was looking at her yesterday as I was showing off the sports boxes to my 'son in Law' (he loved them by the way) anyhow, it will be sad to move her on, but still need to chat with the 'Boss in doors' about my way of thinking, I know she will give me a hard time, but I do fancy the 'R' Can I ask, did your insurance take a battering?

Hi Guys just a quick couple of questions had a letter from council saying people have complained the alarm is being a nuisance, we can't hear it as we live away from the car, first question can it be desensitised? Second question using the fob does first press just lock and not alarm? Or is it alarmed on first press? any help much appreciated Steve

Cheers David good to see what goes on in those hidden spaces Steve

Have to say Jon, got goosebumps when you mentioned the supercharger noise! What to do? On occasion an XFR passes me while walking to the station, and it does sound lovely, I believe the unit under the bonnet is very similar to the one under yours? I have mentioned recently, had I done a bit more research before getting my current S type I would now be driving the STR. Its pretty clear I want one, but the 'planets are aligning' and they are presenting several dilemmas. Like you were, I'm waiting on funds becoming available at the end of the year / beginning of 2017 SWMBO wants the decking extending at our Caravan (pic below) and the 'Van' is very, very important to her, she suffers from severe Agrophobia, which means she's basically house bound without extremely strong meds, it's her escape from the flat she can't stand anymore. So that's a given that will be done, circa 4K, she has the funds now, but of course I will give her that back. I want to get rid of a debt also, there's talk of finally tying the knot (we've been engaged for 9 years) there's talk of a little cruise around the med! Then of course comes the S type, I've already spent approx 2.5k on her which I'll never see again, she now needs some work on the sills, okay not a lot I suppose 400 - 500 but when is, enough is enough? My friend and I will shortly be meeting to discuss setting up a business together (FM Consultancy / provider ) as we're both experienced professionals in that field, that will need some funds setting aside, so not going to be a lot of spare dosh Left! so the Dilemma is, keep my little girlie and fix her? and still have a few quid spare Or move her on and get an STR? I also think the STR will be an investment, as perhaps being a sort after model in years to come? You experienced opinion / thoughts on that presumption would definitely be appreciated. I know mine is one of a limited production run, but she'll never command anywhere near the interest that the STR will. The expression 'Rock and a Hard place' doesn't even begin to describe the tough choice I have to make I really want to be sitting behind that Supercharged V8....... Apologies by the way, for waffling on, but getting things down in black and white sometimes makes things a little clearer? The 'Van' just in case you're interested the decking will extend from decking by the front door down to the decking around the back, it may not look much, but it's over 7 meters long, and 4 foot wide

Hi Jon Daft question, but I have to ask. is the difference from you 3.0 to the V8 supercharged beyond your expectation? never really had the opportunity to sit in a machine designed to be a 'performance' car I've driven a 5.3 Daimler Double 6 many, many years ago, and a Bentley Mulsane turbo I think that was 6.6 or 7.0 litre but neither were Performance cars I'm really curious Steve

Hi Roy two choices I would think, if its really minor (I have the same) just keep an eye on your oil level, and top up as required, or get a quote from another garage, dare I say Halfords... Steve

Firstly rather than hijack Derek's post, and a big thanks by the way, to Derek, and Paul (Raistin) for giving me the kick up the backside I needed to actually have a look I thought I would update my original post. What a performance that was! So here is my recap of the things I found. Firstly when a body shop tells you "it's one of the cleanest he's seen" double check yourself! Well about an hour and a half later the sill cover is back on (that's just the passenger side) I had to drill the recessed screws underneath (Scrivets) as they were just spinning whilst trying to unscrew, trying to pull them out with pliers just didn't work, I couldn't get a grip on them, which meant having to jack her up, to accommodate the length of the drill and bit. Popped off the the top of the covers gently, the green fixings (as in the photo) mostly came out from the body work with the cover, the ones that remained in the car body work, had to be destroyed to get them out. The white fixings (for the top, to replace the green) I bought as advised by a parts supplier, are clearly different, but had no choice but to use in the end. The sill does have rust, but no where near as bad as some I've seen. The photo towards the front wheel shows were the sill is crumbling, under which the green fixing. I tapped gently with my knuckle and its rotten under the paint. Anyhow I used a stiff bristled brush to remove loose debris, and gave it a liberal squirt of WD40 along the length. Absolutely didn't prepare myself for any remedial work, more fool me! Pushed in the new scrivets they come in two halves the base piece for the car and then the screw. some would not stay in the body, now I'm really panicking, so got in as many as I could that would stay, approx 4 (not really enough for my liking) inserted the White fixings into the top of the sill cover, don't do what I did and pop them into the car first, they must go into the cover first. Put the cover back to the car and eventually got the top popped in, now underneath! Yet again the scrivets just started to spin, as I put the screw in, had to use one of the white fixings at the very front by the wheel, but then had to drill that a little to except a normal screw, with a washer, and you guessed it, it started to spin, anyhow, its on by the skin of it's teeth! Didn't even bother with drivers side. Don't let this update put you off if you want have a go, some may get a lot easier time than me, as did Derek (link above) but if you do want to have a go, get yourself prepared for the "What now?" Moment. picture of the green fixing is of the part number before destroying it (H24R381B1) I think they have been superseded now, the sill cover shows very little crud gathered, which I presume is a good thing. But all in all, glad I did it, I'm presuming drivers side is in similar condition, it shouldn't cost an arm and a leg to fix, the only question is do I spend more on her than I already have? Especially as I fancy an S type 'R' Photos attached

Jon I think we're all getting impatient! Can't wait to hear your next update (hopefully a positive one) Steve

Thanks Joe for the info, makes it easy to understand for us technophobes Steve

David you say you have connected your phone, do you mean you have paired it with Jaguar voice? Via Bluetooth? Or hard wired? Mine is so much older than yours that I have cable connections in the storage space under the central arm rest. The connections in mine do have a USB connection that works, however I am lucky enough to have got my car with the parrot system (I don't have jag voice) although not used that (USB) anymore than once. If you have paired with Jag voice are you able to receive / make calls? Steve

Loud! But getting used to it now, main thing SWMBO isn't complaining

I think you are spot on, it's been fine since, I couldn't have closed the drivers door properly that morning

Jon for me that's big mileage! Personally I wouldn't consider a car with that much on the clock, I always try to keep south of the 100k mark if possible. As tempting as it may be, You may well be inviting problems, as the guys have said you don't mention the cost or her age Regards Steve
