  1. Good job Rodney, a new rad will be worth it for the peace of mind it will give
  2. Hi Rodney Prices will vary, here are a few links randomly selected to give you an idea of cost variation, you will need to ensure that you pick one that is relevant to your VIN number (normally your last 7 / 8 digits - letter) David Manners group / SNG Barratt are well favoured by some members of the JOC If it were me, for peace of mind I would replace the rad with a new one, because give or take, its 16 years old and clearly showing it's age! if your not competent at DIY mechanics give her to a reputable garage to supply and fit and ensure you get a warranty on the parts & labour http://www.ebay.co.uk/bhp/jaguar-s-type-radiator http://www.berkshirejagcomponents.co.uk/jaguarspares/Jaguar-S-Type-Cooling-Heating-Parts.html?gclid=CInMhNW9hM4CFakV0wod648MnA http://www.jagspares.co.uk/Manners/Pricelists/NST.htm http://www.sngbarratt.com/CatalogueProducts.aspx?m=49&c=12442&s=14016&a=14024 let us know how you get on Regards Steve
  3. Hi Rodney Have a look at my post
  4. Hi Rodney Is yours a 3.0 Litre, auto
  5. Thanks Adam Yep pretty sure mines the same, I was expecting a metal plate to clearly identify it, its not very significant as a foot rest though I think Thanks again Steve PS Mine needs a hoover too!
  6. Hi Rodney If your just pottering around town, then perhaps you could give rad seal a go, (as far as I know it does just go in the header tank when she's cold of course) I would suggest follow the instructions on the container, but leave her ticking over for quite a while on your drive to see if its sorted. If your doing motorway driving, you may be able to get her fixed, either that or another rad New or used I personally wouldn't risk motor way driving with a leaky rad. Just be sure to keep an eye on your temp gauge / dash for warnings if it starts to rise get her pulled over sharpish! and turn her off before the engine seizes I had a very lucky escape a month or so with mine Steve
  7. That is quite true, especially if its another Jag owner! I also find the same effect on motorways
  8. that's going to annoy me now! have I just been a complete Muppet and not seen / noticed it i'll double check tomorrow when I'm in it, yours is newer than mine, perhaps you have a much higher spec than mine? and again I'm stealing your words, it would be Odd to have a foot rest as an optional extra rather than a standard fitment, I must have one surely? Never seen a foot rest by the accelerator before, did it also have Cruise?
  9. actually Adam, come to think of it, its also funny you mention the foot rest, I never use Cruise control, so its my left foot that could do with a home when I'm driving, I find I fold my leg towards my seat, what ever happened to the foot rests in autos that used to be fairly common place?
  10. Hi All came home a short while ago and thought I would check the car was locked, I opened it this morning to check the mileage, anyhow I pressed the open button on the fob couldn't hear the central locking operate so pressed the lock button and the horn beeped twice, pressed it again to double lock and it beeped twice again, used the key to open the door no alarm, put key in ignition turned and dash lights came on as normal didn't try to start her, used key in door to lock it and horn beeped twice again, double locked it and same again, any ideas chaps?
  11. First year of ownership, first Jag, first experience of owning a Marque! My thoughts so far. Never did I think I would ever own such a car, but when I saw her advertised I fell in love, I just knew inside I had to have her. Went to the dealers, saw her in the flesh, heard the engine, checked her over, even before we discussed cash, I wanted out of there, with her whisking me home, already anticipating the bursting pride I knew I would feel to be the owner of such a car…. What did the missus say “its smaller inside than the Omega” typical! She likes her now by the way Anyhow not to put a dampener on the experience, one year on, I still have the honour of saying I own a Jaguar, still get an excitement when I know I’ll be getting behind the wheel shortly, with the keys in my hand, I still look at her and admire her from afar. I still can’t believe I own her To the car its self Positives As mentioned love the shape, love the quality of the build, solid feeling, reassuring thud when the doors close, responsive, handles like a dream, road holding very good, haven’t pushed to hard yet though, goes like the wind, purred with original boxes on, now growls with the sports boxes, gearbox lovely and smooth, brakes fabulous, sport mode or not I love the acceleration from stand still, overtaking a dream and effortless, speed I couldn’t possibly comment firm supportive comfortable leather seats, love the layout of the interior, like the wood trim, love the alloys, folding mirrors, sound system even though it’s the basic, she’s a head turner, still getting admiring glances Negatives House Keys in the ignition dangle on my knee (quite annoying) firm suspension, not her fault, that’s what you get with a Sport model!, she does not like the go faster pedal being slammed to the floor for ‘Kick down’ she does some weird stuff that makes think a fault code is going to pop up, or I’m going to damage her, she prefers the slightly smoother approach, rather than the 'wham - bam' Not the biggest of boots, the ‘letter box’ opening behind the rear seats when they are folded is quite small therefore restricting the size of larger / longer ‘Stuff’ you may want to carry, I think the windows are a little on the small side, that’s perhaps just a personal opinion, not the easiest to clean the rear window at parcel shelf level, space saver wheel, doesn’t have all the toys, again not her fault, To conclude: Had I done a bit more research I probably would be driving the S Type ‘R’ but at this moment that will have to wait for a while (How long who knows) regarding those little niggly things, I can live with them, why? Because they make no difference to the experience of owning a fantastic car, one year on and I still can’t wait to get behind the wheel, Oh, and I still give her a little pat on the dash whenever the journey begins and ends Apologies for my waffling on, but just thought I would share my love affair with a superb car Steve
  12. Hi Trevor If Jaguar UK cant help, then perhaps its not just a simple question, I have seen pics on another forum, regarding the removal of the sump tray (S type Petrol) although I didn't pay to much attention, it appears that the engine needs support from above, whilst there may be the need to remove a cross member from below, clearly that would expose the bottom of the engine, but I reiterate, that was a petrol engine. Wouldn't a damaged Con-Rod have caused other damage, perhaps to Crankshaft / piston bores? Sorry not really been to much help, but it may give you an idea for further investigation Steve
  13. Hi All Just a quick update, last year got her insured with Hastings Direct fully comp / NCD protected and windscreen covered. got the usual letter when the insurance is due, you know the one "You don't have to do anything, your cover will automatically re-new" blah blah... I cant remember the cost last year, but it was around the £500 + mark, any way the new quote £900 + ! As I do every year, I did the 'go compare' / 'compare the market' thing and Hastings Direct (figure that out?) came out best at £732 I went and had a look at Adrian Flux and got a quote, which I have just accepted if I paid up front it would have been £530 (I pay monthly) so its just over £600 Steve
  14. Thanks Derek Glad I checked, 2 packs ordered! regards Steve
  15. Thanks Guys before I go pulling stuff out I bought these, are these the right ones? there is no separate screw bit, underneath there is just a hole http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-C2C8963020 regards Steve
  16. Well the weekend was kind on the weather front, so I thought right! lets have a look at those sills... Every Blumming one of the underneath screws were just spinning & spinning, do I presume I now need to jack her up and drill out ALL of them? and then figure out a method of alternate fixings Steve
  17. Hi Rodney Welcome to the JOC Firstly do you have any visible signs in the engine bay, that would pin point where your losing coolant? any puddles / drips on the floor? have you run your hands around the pipe work (when she's cold) to try and trace any coolant, are you getting a lumpy running engine? white smoke / steam out of the exhausts, have a look at the base of the oil filler cap to see if there's any watery gunk, same for the dip stick. the temp gauge is normally smack in the middle when up to operating temp just in case you weren't aware, also check around the thermostat housing, that might possibly be a reason why your getting no heat, I can never remember which it is, 'stuck open' or 'stuck closed', I think its stuck open that messes around with the ability to heat, it could be a few other things as well by the way, but I'm not an expert on this at all I'm sure you'll get more detailed and accurate advice along soon Regards Steve
  18. What have they done to her!!!!!
  19. That's one hell of an increase in horse power!
  20. looks like its gone! last price I saw was 4.3k
  21. Me too Simon if had some spare I would be seriously interested, just noticed there is no reserve either
  22. Thanks Paul Looks pretty simple, are they expensive do you know? it would be a shame to spend lots of money on something i'm probably only going to use once if they are silly money, I would take you up on the offer of using yours, and as always your offers of help are appreciated, once I have my hands on the fittings would you mind me dropping you a PM? Regards Steve
  23. Hi Paul Tool? don't they just push in?
  24. That's Very kind Paul, if they are not the correct size, I may be in touch
  25. Cheers Derek very helpful info, its appreciated. I'm still trying to find the clips waiting on Rimmer bros to get back to me, off topic I was trying to find Hexsert fittings so I can fit my CDC in the boot at some point, thankfully they have found them and the bolts at long last regards Steve
