Hi David Not an expert at all, but I'm starting to think either your spark plugs are soaked in oil or perhaps clutch / gearbox maybe two extremes I know, but just a thought. are there any noises associated with the juddering?
-
Hi Paul I second Peter's comment, would love to see some pics if you can get them. It sounds like you have to replace the lot, would you mind if I asked what your being charged? I presume it's the full works your getting done, I.e. Parts / Labour / sprayed / treated etc? And how long will she be off the road for? Definitely keep us up to date on how things are progressing Steve

Cheers Amal I appreciate the feedback, having looked at the map, I would think I'm way to far for a mobile mechanic to travel. It was worth a try! Regards Steve

2006 X Type estate rear window
Claws replied to jdavidj's topic in Jaguar Audio / Video / Electronics / Security Systems
Hi David There will be members in this forum who will be able to guide you (these guys know their stuff!) Regards Steve -
Hi Peter (Wessex) Apologies, how I missed you reply I don't know. Thanks again for the info, I would happily give a "drink" to anyone that introduced me to a quality mechanic, I want to know my 'My Little Girlie' (That's what I call her, and yes I do give her a little pat on the dash when I get out after my journey ) I want to know she is in good hands. It looks like there may be a niche market where I am, so any mechanics out there, come and setup shop, l know of at least 3 S types and a couple XF's in my vicinity Thanks again guys for your comments (Skelley, let us know how you get on with your sills) Steve

Hi Amal If you don't mind Slightly off topic, the mobile mechanic you used, have you used him before? If so what are your impressions? I note your in Kent, the Lancaster dealership you use, would that be Sidcup by chance? I'm trying to gauge the area that the mechanic may operate in, I'm not a million miles from Sidcup, so perhaps he may cover my Location Apologies again for going off topic (Leaper looks good by the way!) Regards Steve

2008 XKR CONVERTIBLE RE-FUELLING PROBLEM
Claws replied to KARLEDZ's topic in XK8 / XKR ( X100) 1996 - 2006
Hi Karl Forgive me if I'm asking the the bleeding obvious, but does the spout go all the way in to the tank? Also is your petrol cap still intact? I'm thinking maybe part of it is still in the filler neck? Definitely sounds like a blockage of some sort to me Steve -
Thanks Peter (Wessex) If £480 is the sort of benchmark I'm looking at, then that's not as bad as I thought, I looked at the David Manners group website, and priced up the parts, again I made the assumption it was worse case scenario. The price I came up with was £600 + for inner / middle / outer for both sides, you then of course have the rest on top. However the mileage to Devon, train back home, then back again etc would be more effort than I would consider. I would much prefer something closer to home, but I do appreciate the information. You have given me an idea of cost (although I would expect prices to be higher were I am) and an idea of time to do the work. Next step I suppose is get her into Halfords for a proper look, thankfully I have several months to get stuff done on her, no matter what happens she won't get scrapped, as Skelly said about his car, above ground (so to speak) she is in pretty good nick, and only has 85k on the clock, so she's going nowhere. Who knows it may not be as bad as I'm assuming, if I can get some pics I'll post them on here Thanks again guys for your comments Steve

Hi Peter, Skelly, thanks for your replies. I think I have given up trying to find a recommend Indy garage / workshop near me. I'm going to consider local dealerships, we have a Citren and Vauxhall both in walking distance and a Ford a little further away, I will also start searching for accident repair centres, I'm leaning more towards the dealerships because of the size of the organisations (I know that's not a guarantee of good workmanship) my MOT isn't due till July so might also consider getting her to Hellfords, oops sorry Halfords to get her up off the ground for a check in advance, hopefully they will let me into the workshop to take photos Do you think the Ford dealership would make more sense? It would appear some smaller places think because you own a Jaguar, your clearly loaded! My logic is Ford bits are quite reasonable in price

Hi Chris if you intend on keeping her for any length of time, then i would get it done in heart beat! (bearing in mind the cost of course) give the girl a chance to serve you well for many years to come :) Steve

Hi All If possible just wanted an idea of likely cost / time to replace? I used one of those telescopic mirror gismos the other day, and could just about make out the seams between the outer sill cover and the protective tray under the body, it looked pretty bad! I can't really get down there and investigate more, dodgy arthritic knees I'm afraid, and don't have the kit nor a place to get her up off the ground safely while having a good rummage around. So like I say, worse case scenario, what cost should I expect? (Supply / fit / paint / seal etc) and a rough idea of how long she'll be off the road for Many thanks in advance for your suggestions Regards Steve

Jim has beaten me to it, and totally agree with Peter, I also do faff a lot with the little lady, I try to keep her looking tidy, here is my attempt of painting the lettering on the heat shield (definitely think Jaguar missed a trick here) unfortunately I have very unsteady hands so had to stop at the primer stage, did not want to mess this job up at all, it's ready for the Ferrari red (apologies for using the 'F' word on a Jaguar forum

I hope i understand what your looking for, so here is a couple photos of mine

Hi All Been reading through all the recommended Independants, could only find two suggested anywhere near my location SE12 Lee (south east london) one in SE20 8JY 'J&D's Autos' I google Mapped it, and unless I am blind, it was just a street full of houses, although there were two Jags on the street S type & XJ. Then Next one recommended Was Les Pauls Woodford green, I could only find two reviews (Land rover & range rover) one gave 5 stars the other 1 Star, the setup looked very familar / similar to Lancasters in Sidcup, otherwise know as Jardinemotors http://www.jardinemotors.co.uk/jaguar/?ito=GAG16856789407&itc=GAC75074913487&itkw=lancaster%20jaguar%20sidcup&itawmt=e&itawnw=search&itadvc=c&gclid=CLGJlIbq2MgCFWXnwgodq4wGEA They did a fantastic job for me when i first got my car, however they are not cheap! (does any one know if they are Independants or main dealers?) I have only been to them twice, so very limited experience but both times, very good impressions. I tend to judge a garage by the cleanliness and orderly fashion of the workshop, pretty much spotless it has to be said. They collected my car the first time it went in, and dropped it off again after the work, nicely cleaned and hoovered, they even washed and hoovered the car the second time, (I was only getting my spare key Programmed!) Anyhow, I would really like to hear of any other recommended Mechanics / Body shop in my area, someone did ask about Bexleyheath DA6, that would also be fine for me. I could stay with these guys above, but would much rather keep some of my money in my pocket, and build a rapport with a local mechanic. Cheers Steve

Chris Just a thought, could your gauge / tank level censor be a bit dodgy? From your comment about it giving you back a quarter of a tank, you may actually be topping it up, when you have plenty left. I dont know what the capacity is in the tank (should be quite easy to find out) As an idea, next time the dreaded warning light comes on, fill her up and make a note of the litres you used. if you use the right amount, your gauge is probably correct (and therefore your Miles Per Tank 'MPT') if you put in less, when the petrol pump does that auto stop filling thingy that they do, then the chances are your gauge / tank level censor is at fault, and your MPT should improve, by quarter of a tanks worth of milage :D I also have a 3.0, but my MPG is not going to improve, 23.9 MPG as i literally do the same journey more or less, week in, week out under the same traffic / speed / stop - start conditions. Bless her, she never gets to go on a proper long journey :( Anyhow like i said just a thought, those with more knowledge / experience than i will correct me if i'm wrong Steve

Do you think its LED's in the dash? I might have a look at some of the doc's i have been putting together, to see if there is a diagram / description available, and take it from there.
-
Thanks Phil It would appear no one has done this, shame as i would have been interested to hear about it

Seeing the topic ref LED lights (external) reminded me of something i was considering on my last car. I was tempted to change to factory fitted ones to Red! Has anyone tried or done this? I think Red Dashboard lights at night time would look pretty impressive, If so, is it a simple case of popping out your dashboard and replacing LED's or is it Fibre Optics and a whole different ball game? Regards Steve

Thanks Mark That's put my mind at rest, I might just go and treat myself Steve

Thanks chaps for your replies, and apologies for delayed response. I am thinking about getting the bluetooth adapter above, but another question occured to me. My Android phone (Samsung S4) is paired with the Parrot system, if I install this product, will I have any issues choosing which to prioritise when I start the car? or do I simply remove it from the cars connector? or should I just pair it with the Android 'Tablet' (Samsung) I have for ease? I have the Torque app on both. I have probably answered my own question, but its just about making life easier Thanks again Steve

Hi Guys I had a look and XR858049 I believe is the part number, just to mention I know nothing about these sellers, and whether this part is suitable for your car, you will need to confirm http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JAGUAR-OEM-05-08-S-Type-Hood-Insulator-XR858049-/231430588405 http://www.brit-car.co.uk/product.php/364160/5497/insulation_b http://www.jagspares.co.uk/Manners/partdetail.asp?partno=XR858049 Presuming I understand what your looking for, Hope this of some use Regards Steve

Hi Richard I will leave the answer regarding bushes to those more experienced than I, this is my first Jag also, so my knowledge is limited. Just curious, does your car want to meander on flat roads if you take your hands off the wheel, or while braking? Is your steering tight / responsive? I'm trying to drag up memories from the days long gone, when I use to do my own mechanics, I have tyre pressure? Tracking? Jumping into my mind for some reason. You have checked the bounce on the shocks, I use to check the body roll as well, to make sure it settled the same when rocking it from passenger side, and drivers side. If anything else springs to mind, I'll let you know Steve
