Ron I have heard that sometimes the micro switches fail on the fob, I believe they are repairable / replaceable, but from what I've seen it looks quite a faff!

Hi All I know this question has been asked several times, so I had a look around and found the following YouTube video, I know its regarding programming X type key fobs, but I make a presumption the process would be same for an S type? hi Phil I think Andy has answered your question, from what I've heard nice and easy to fit (no mods!) i'm not sure about the round ones though? if I recall correctly the tail pipe is 50mm. I nearly bought some, while I was in two minds about the sport boxes regards Steve

thanks chaps as always wise words of advice. bearing in mind the possibility of it either being just being the 'O' ring, and / or also a brittle 'Spigot' (thanks Jon) pipe, also remembering the tank is now 14 years old I'm of a mind to change the whole Header tank? is this something that can be done at the 'road side' so to speak? I know the leak isn't that bad, but it really would be just my luck for it to 'Pop' while taking it to a garage. I'm guessing £200 - £250 supply & Fit?

folks no ideas, as to how / where the coolant could be coming from?

Hi all when I picked her up from the MOT, the mechanic mentioned some staining, possibly from the header tank. Something I should be aware of, anyhow I popped the bonnet, and sure enough there was some spray visible, and the level was low, I put that down to driving on the hottest day of the year so far? just had another look and am a bit concerned! In one of the photos you can just about make out the moisture in the top left corner of the rad, and the bit of sponge is wet. You will also notice the coolant has sprayed as far back as the body mount for the suspension. There is a lot of staining around the bleed screw, and under the small hose right next to it, also under the header tank cap! There is no staining however around the outer ridge of the header tank, which makes me think the moisture on the rad is just leakage from around the top of the header tank rather than the rad itself? any thoughts please? Anyone that can Zoom in will see better regards Steve

Ron As far as I know the ignition talks to the key the moment you insert it, if the car doesn't recognise the key, the alarm sounds. hopefully others will confirm / dispute my knowledge. I wouldn't try reprogramming just yet until you are sure

Hi Ron below are the instructions I found awhile ago, which procedure applies, if any? I don't know, i'm just not brave enough to try S-Type Remote Control Programming (Procedure 1) 2.) Ensure Drivers door & boot is open. 3.) Hold high beam switch towards you. 4.) Insert key in ignition and turn to accessory position . 5.) Release high beam switch. 6.) Pull & release high beam switch 4 times slowly. 7.) Listen for chime. 8.) Press lock button on each remote to be programmed. 9.) Listen for chime. 10.) Ignition off. 11.) Close & open door. 12.) Test remotes. S-Type Remote Control Programming (Procedure 2) 2.) Turn ignition from O to II four times. 3.) A chime will be heard. 4.) Press the button on each remote that requires programming. 5.) Switch ignition OFF. 6.) Test each remote control. S-Type Remote Control Programming (Procedure 3) (UK Variant) 2.) Get in the car and close the drivers side door. 3.) Put the key into the ignition and turn to position 0. 4.) Wait 5 seconds. 5.) Turn the key quickly to position II then back to 0 four times. within 6 seconds (do this only once) 6.) You should hear a single chime. 7.) Remove the Key. 8.) For each Key fob in rapid succession. Press and hold the Boot (Trunk) release, lock or unlock button on the key fob you wish to pair, you should hear a chime as each Key fob is paired with the security system. After the chime repeat the process on the next Key fob you wish to pair. 9.) On compleation after all keys have been programed, wait 3 minutes then check the operation of each Key fob by locking/unlocking the vehicle. Important Note :-All the fobs that you wish to use Must be paired at the same time. Every time you operate the key as in step 5 above the code will be changed, previously programmed fobs will no longer work unless you pair them all at the same time.

Hi Chaps You have a couple of options, you can call a mobile Auto locksmith, or take your car to a dealer, if memory serves approx. £50-ish to get reprogrammed. I know one of JOC members has reprogrammed his, but as you say Ron, I would be concerned about messing up the only working fob! Regards Steve

Understood, so will leave it there. However, don't be necessarily put off with used cars, there are of course some dogs out there, but also some gems! I've never bought a new car, and had some used ones that lasted for years! this is my 2nd year with my 'S' type, yes she cost me a couple of grand to get her right over the time I've had her, but she is so reliable, a pleasure to own, and has just recently passed her MOT with no advisories. but of course the choice is yours Please keep us informed. hi Marty I'm no expert but, they are entitled to attempt to rectify the problem/s, it matters not, what the condition of the car was when they bought it, they are however responsible for the condition of the car when they sell it! I know you stated your RTA was really minor, but unfortunately some individuals, shall we say start 'getting ideas' afterwards, so be wary, did you test drive the car before you handed over your money? I note they have offered a 3 month warranty, did you attempt to get the car sorted under the warranty? I only ask because it may be important, other members of the JOC will be more knowledgeable than me! do you by chance know if the seller did their own MOT test (i.e. had their own MOT testing garage facilities on site?) The advert actually contradicts it's self as it mentions "Long MOT" then next line down "12 months MOT" there appears to be something that could be described as a disclaimer on the next page "Some of the information on our adverts is automatically generated and may be inaccurate, therefore we advise you to check the specification with us prior to purchase" whether that includes the MOT statement I don't know? I know this will cost a couple of quid, but unless you are a qualified mechanic, it may be worth getting it to an independent garage and get a report to support your challenge, because if there are obvious faults, such as ABS that an idiot could have spotted, then you may (if required) have a case to support the validity of the last MOT she received. Not wishing to teach you how to suck eggs, but any communication between yourself and the seller, if poss keep copies of. Hopefully as previously mentioned, others will chip in with more info Regards Steve
