What is the average charge for gearbox sump filter and fluid change, cars done 95000mls now so i thought i would give it a treat, been quoted £300. Thought that was reasonable so its booked in for wednesday. What do you guys think?

acrylic or waterbased paint
ian6 replied to ian6's topic in Jaguar Car Care and Detailing Inside & Out
Sorry for being so vague, decided to go for the meaner look and dechrome the grille, bumper inserts etc, so decided to have the full bumpers front and rear fully sprayed to avoid what could be a colour mismatch, also will be having the car fully mopped to tie the colour in, hence the rather vague question. Had a wing sprayed/bumper with acrylic 2 pack on the XJ, (piccy below) match was good but in certain lights you could see a difference so wanted info as to what to expect if I go waterbase on the old girl. Regards -
Going to have some colour done, what do you guys think about the type of paint. Do I go down the eco. friendly waterbase route or the proven acrylic paint. Your thoughts as to longevity of finish, colour match etc. Your thoughts please

Thank you for the links Paul. Regards Ian

Cheers for the info, the price's I was quoted were from the David Manners group, have to admit they did sound a bit steep. You don't happen to have the link to the Ebay site it would be appreciated. Regards Ian

Jim please rest assured I won't leave a single stone unturned. Since Christmas i have spent just under £2000 on having servo, vacuum pump, discs and pads ×4, tracking ×4, nitro fill and balancing. I, like yourself like to keep their charges in tip top condition (even if it means selling my other Kidney) I will of course keep you informed of the coarse of action, because this is really peeing me off. Regards Ian

Cheers Jim, have mine washed every week by the local pressure washer brigade and to date no water ingress and all seals appear dry. To be honest there seems to be a lot of noise emanating from the front of the car, no whistling.Might invest in a smoke pressure test, just kidding. Mirror seals all look OK, but this will be further investigated when it gets a little warmer, the drivers door seal has suffered the normal wear as one would expect as this is the most used and will be renewed. Regards Ian

Thanks for the info Jim, viewed the videos with interest. Been trying for ages to actually pinpoint which seal is failing on my car, come to the conclusion it's all of them, so I await your update when i hope you will have some good news. Regards Ian

Just priced new primed parts, price prohibitive I think £113 for the bumper inserts and £800 for front grille so if this gets done it will be the spraying route I think, and it will be full bumper respray for colour match. Looking for good sprayer Manchester area, any ideas guys

Bought my first jag at 19, a beautiful 1967 red S1 coupe , wire wheels 8 track the works paid £1900 back in 69 from Blue circle garage in Cheadle hulme and to the present day have owned 16 of this gorgeous marque. Need the plastic sill covers removing on my S type to check the condition of the undersills for the dreaded rust worm, and also to carry out any remedial or preventative work. Based in the Denton area of Manchester and with no access to ramps I am looking for recommendations off you guys as to directions to anyone that could carry out these works to a recognised standard. Also what is the best rust treatment one could use to halt further progression of rust if any is found Jenolite, Waxoyle etc.

Remember guys, " Dont drink and drive" A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL.

Cheers Joe , that's all I wanted a definitive answer. Regards Ian.

Asking for advice, anybody ever fitted an Adamesh performance exhaust to a S type Diesel, not looking for vast improvement in performance just want the big cat to purr with a more substantial growl. Have a friend with an R and the sound is a beautiful deep roar, just don't know if the sound would be similar on the somewhat smaller engine with totally different running characteristics. Your views would be appreciated before I part company with my hard earned cash

OBD Code P0782refers to This P0782 code indicates that the 2-3 shift valve in the valve body is locked in the direction of the spring compression. The Transmission Control Module (TCM) controls the gearshifts by turning the shift solenoid valves "ON/OFF" and switching oil pressure to the valves in the valve body. The TCM calculates the "actual" transmission gear by comparing the signals from the input speed sensor and the output speed sensor. Hope this helps solve your problem

Have to agree on the vacuum theory, had similar problem on an early petrol jag some 35 years ago, I also suffered occasional difficulty starting and erratic revving, turned out to be a crack on an ageing rubber vacuum pipe.

No problem for me Peter live in the area and it's the nearest Maplin, also need a few other bits from there computer related.

Cheers Peter, Kenny for the info, will get the cleaning gear out today in the first instance, then a trip to Stockport for the Silicon grease whilst this beautiful SUNNY day is with us. Regards, Ian

Anybody got any idea where the fuse is located for said charging point, the reason i ask is a 5 pence piece found its way into the socket and I assume the fuse has gone seeing its as dead as a dodo, checked the fuse box in the boot, (cigar lighter fuse front ashtray) ok, so I know its not piggy backed, found the relay for armrest point but which fuse controls the relay, it doesn't seem to indicate the fuse directly in the handbook. please could someone point me in the right direction.

Hi all, looking for any info onhow too get rid of the wind noise on my 2007/8 S Type, I assume this is caused by the door seal rubbers losing their flexibility/softness over the years. My question is! Are there any proven products on the market that will in some way rejuvenate the elasticity of the seals? Rather try the cheaper option first before looking at renewing all the seals. Cheers all
